Not a proper US chopper
Not named after a First Nation 😛
the UH-1 was called the Iroquois for example.
The Cobra is apparently named after the not well known Cobra tribe in some remote part of Wyoming though I have reservations about that.
“though I have reservations”
Was that a pun I just spotted there?!??!
But of course! I don’t just throw this rubbish together, Warren, it takes time and effort.
Hmmm something amiss about that somehow! lol
Technically the OH-6 was named the Cayuse, but the pilots gave it the nickname LOACH (a play on LOH) later on.
cf my post below with the video 😉
I think if I were playing this I would go for the PAVN as I love the sound of all the ambush tactics but those choppers are awesome
Looks nice, but bring on the big guns!
I like the fact that it has no move stat, making it a real fast scout.
Is it just me that wants to paint one of these like the helicopter in Magnum PI?
You wanna make it look like an ice-crea,? 😛
ice-cream even
Curse you lack of edit button
So I’m not the only one considering a Magnum PI paintjob…. 😀
great looking kit… and there’s TWO in the box!!!
That is an awesome little kit and would be great to make They were a very brave flight crew that went up in those to play FAC. There is not a lot of helicopter between you and the incoming fire.
AFAIK the Cayuse wasn’t used for FAC.
O-1 Bird Dogs, Cessna O-2 and later the Northrop O-10 Bronco were utilised in that role.
The name Loach comes from Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)
Any hoo Choppers and cool sounds. Two for the price of one

These are also perfect for a special ops Black Hawk down type senario with Special Forces sittin on the sleds
I think its very cool that Battlfront designs and includes magnets in their kits, its a very nice touch.
Really good looking plastic kit once again. Hopefully in the future we’ll see more BF range in plastic.
I’m really liking the plastic kits, its a shame they haven’t got one for the Huey.
I really like the Helicopter rules in TOD and can see the Loach zipping around marking and preventing ambushes.
I would like to see more of the Battlefront range in plastic too. With the success of their awesome Open Fire starter set, I think they’d be crazy not to expand further into the world of plastics (surprised that the late war US Parachute Rifle Company box set isn’t all in plastic now after Open Fire).
They could do a separate Open Fire set for ‘Nam as well!
It was mentioned last night and I believe the response was that it wasn’t something they were looking at now but might in the future.
LOACH came from Light Observation Helicopter, Leave it to the pilots to coin the acronym.
Well, I can see some uses for these. 😀 Thanks for including choppers in the review section.
so anyone have a link to a decent vid on how to paint windows?

hth
😛
HAHA Thanks guess I did walk into that one : )
Sorry
Sometimes you know you shouldn’t but you do despite yourself :*)
Very nice litlle piece of kit. Besides, who can resist the chopper from ‘magnum’? Good to know TOD is now a primary system and will get regular support!
Both sides look very nice – the Americans get the cool toys, but the PAVN sounds like they have an interesting play style.
Looks like a great set!
Nice model, I wondering how you could make the rotor as if it is spinning, anybody got an idea?
Saw one yesterday. Nice little chopper.
Wil there be a full batrep this weekend?
I’ve got many ideas for uses for this kit – lovely stuff.
A lovely kit, wasn’t thinking about using them, but the kit looks too good almost to not expand have an Air Cav list.
Awesome. More plastic kits. And a nice one at that. I love it. But I just can’t help myself, being a also starcraft nerd, to hear a Korean saying “Roach”, when they talk about this chopper.
well well when i look to this kit and remember warrens usa plans then i hope dave will bring some good aa guns and antitankguns. Iam really looking forward to a game between the two.
I’ve picked up a couple of these this week, plan is to convert them a little so i can use them as little birds for my force on force Blackhawk down stuff. very nice little kits, also I’m becoming a big fan of flames of war flight stands.
Choppers are so cool… more games should have them…
Both this and the M113 kits look really nice. I think I’ve been persuaded to try my hand at 15mm wargaming 🙂
That’s a really cool kit. In plastic no less! Flames of War stuff has really impressed me of late.
Air cav list with loach, cobra support. Now that’s fun.
Love these little choppers!
Nice looking kit, especially the thought put into incorporating the mould lines into the actual panel gaps on the real chopper.
Good to hear Battlefront wants to stick with this and it isn’t just a ‘game of the year’.
Nice kit! Really impressive!
glad they went plastic with these got the older hueys seam a little to heavy fall over easy . ill be off to get a few of these for my force. thanks guys.
Pretty incredible what can be done with plastic kits these days. Very detailed for such a small model. It’s good to see BF moving into doing more plastics, whilst I don’t actively play FoW despite having quite a lot of books and even several partially built armies, building their older resin/metal vehicle kits can be a real pain and put me off. More plastic from BF would definitely get me much more interested in their games and models, particularly ‘nam since Bolt Action is my primary WW2 system.
Nice little chopper to go with the Cobras, and the Hogs.
You guys made me watch “We Were Soldiers” last night. It was terrible… but was a blueprint for this gameplay.
goodie !
These things are evil.
Wow, could I paint it civilian colours and use it to kill zombies?
That would entail fitting motors, remote controls and blades attached to the rotors, then have the skill under pressure to fly it at the zombies’ necks.
Given the scale I doubt you will have much success decapitating the undead.
Personally I don’t think it worth the effort and would stick with chainsaws and shotguns etc.
Great eye in the sky there
loving the coverage, give me more!!!
I suspect any good set for of rules for Vietnam has got to be defined by it’s rules for choppers
This will help drag my brother into FoW…. he’s a helicopter kind of guy…. these are more his speed,,,,
I love these the little bird butt kicking little thing
yay free stuff
Nice looking little kit and a very useful addition to any US force for Vietnam.
Used correctly these little boys could be very effective.
looks like a really cool kit
really cool little kit
cool vid!
Eh, somehow not a fan with that army paint style. Now, paint it as a spec ops blackbird, and I think it works great. Maybe I’ll get a few just for that…
The included magnets are brilliant. I like that Battlefront consider the practical needs of gaming, and help their customers meet them.
will anyone play pavn with all these cool toys lol choppers choppers and more choppers
Best theme week yet guys. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Especially nice touch with the music. And i liked the multiple unboxings spread over the week.
I’m going on a copy+paste mission now to maybe win an army. If not, i’ll be buying one anyway.
Is this a littlebird?
Cool little chopper, these will look great scouting in front of the hueys.
Love this little kit! The choppers are what really interests me in the Vietnam FoW cause, well, choppers are wicked cool XD Also really nice to see more plastic kits, hope we’ll see many more to come!
Just love helicopters
Nice addition to the US lists. Love the support role they play. I really liked hearing from Gareth about how during the design process they thought about the location of the mould lines.
I hate it when you have an awesome miniature with bad mould lines in ridiculous places causing you to clean excessively and possible resculpt areas.
lol good luck magnetising anything on that piece of kit
Choppers or Ironclads, choppers or Ironclads…..
Great kit review.
Very nice piece of kit, I loved putting my ones together
Sweet sweet choppers.
Helicopters!!!!!! Gimme gimme gimme….
This one is head of the itty bitty copter committee.
The vids made me think about playing vietnam
