A bit disappointed at the review really, which failed to highlight some big issues with this product.

Although the quality looks ok (I would argue that the figures are not as good as the reviewer makes out, but that is just an opinion) the real issue with this box set is the contents. Firstly they are sold as a German Infantry Company, however it is impossible to construct an infantry Company from the contents at 1-1 ratio (which is where the most popular rules set – Flames of War – operates. There is simply is not enough figures in the box!) Even if you play other rules sets which use a different figure scale there is another more problematic issue – the ratio of weapons , particularly MG42s \ MG34s. Basically you need 4 MGs per infantry platoon, but there are only 4 in the box, so you can build a Platoon and have 50 spare figures, but nothing more. The situation is much worse when you try to build a panzergrenadier unit which should have twice as many MGs. There are also far too many personal automatic weapons, Sg44s and MP40s, compared to rifles, the basic squad having one MG42\34, one or two MP40s and the remaining members of the ten man squad having Kar98s. While he abundance of snipers is easy to fix, I still don’t understand the logic in putting so many in a set? The Panzerfausts are a nice addition, as is the Panzershreck, but is no tripod mounted MGs at all – a major miss if you are really building a Company sized unit, and a pair of mortars is not much use.

I think the ratio issue is a real deal breaker. To build a Company with the right proportion of weapons you would need to buy three (technically 4) boxes , and would have 200 spae figures. The lack of tripod MMGs means you still need to fill out your unit from other sources.

It seems WF have improved their production quality, but are lacking in understanding the requirements of the customer. If they had used the space all those spare snipers are taking up with some more LMGs this would look much more attractive.

If they are planning to follow this up with some heavy weapons it would make more sense, but surely that’s where the Mortar teams should have been?

Bases? nice idea – what size are they? Probably would have been helpful to tell us

All in all they look nice enough figures let down by the pack contents.

I was also rather disappointed that the reviewer clearly knew very little about the subject matter. How can you provide a balanced and worthwhile review if you don’t know what the product is supposed to be?
