Abyssinia’s Basotho Cavalry Gallop To The Other Side

The Abyssinian Empire gets some new fast moving troops in Wyrd's latest Other Side preview; the skilled riders of the Basotho Cavalry.

The Basotho people originate in the south of Africa, but came north after the Zulu expansion. They were quickly brought into the Abyssinian Empire, where their horse riding expertise made them a valued addition to their armies.

The Basotho Cavalry are exceedingly quick, letting them act as flanking troops to help control your opponent's movements. There is nothing more frustrating than being halted at every turn by an elusive enemy, only to discover the slower, heavy hitters have now had time to move into place.

What are your thoughts on these new cavalry figures?

Not a great fan of the Abyssinian faction, but damn, I love these horsemen. Very nice.

I don’t think there is a faction whose entire range I like; conversely there are bits and pieces from each faction I think are really good.

Also, when is this game coming out? I don’t know if I’m remembering things correctly, but wasn’t the original aim for Chrismas? I’m guessing KS has seen a few delays (when isn’t there?).

I’d have quite liked to get my hands on some of the British infantry.

I think they are still going making models for the Kickstarter backers, before general release.
You are right it was to be released to December 2017 but this is their most recent message and I don’t think it is happening.

“Happy December! We hope everyone is gearing up for a great weekend. It’s a small update this week, but we wanted to let you know that we think about The Other Side every day. We’re looking forward to getting it out there and playing it ourselves.

Some production issues continue to be issues, but there is progress being made and regular contact is happening between us and the factory to keep everything moving forward. Hopefully we’ll have some more meaningful updates soon, but for now, rest assured that we’re keeping on top of everything as best we can.

On a different note, as we mentioned last update, we were at PAX Unplugged recently. It was a great show! We met numerous backers and picked up a few new ones… to those of you who found us at PAX: thanks for stopping by!

We were able to do a lot of demos of The Other Side, including many to people new to miniatures games, and it went over amazingly well. People loved the models, the preassembly, and the gameplay. It’s a delight to demo the game.
