Help Bring Wargames Atlantic’s Conquistador Cavalry To Life
January 22, 2024 by brennon
Wargames Atlantic are currently looking to get enough pre-orders in for them to produce a new plastic kit. The 28mm Conquistador Cavalry will be made available once they hit their $6000 pre-order goal, perfect for use alongside Conquistadors and Aztecs on foot.
Conquistador Cavalry // Wargames Atlantic
The set was sculpted by Rob Macfarlane using research from Maxwell McDougall and should be great for those looking to shock their New World foes. Horsemen were used to great effect by Cortez and his marauders against the Aztecs but you could also use these in your clashes across Europe during the Late 15th and Early 16th Century.
Inside the set, you'll be able to make armoured and unarmoured riders with a whole host of weapon and head options. Wargames Atlantic also want to add in arquebusiers for those seeking a bit of ranged firepower and the lovely doggo if he will fit on the sprues.
Once the final layout has been decided on, they are hoping to be able to make a set featuring twelve cavalry miniatures. They will use the basic horse kit from Wargames Atlantic with bonus options for customising them.
I think the set is currently looking great and will be a solid pick for those looking to build up armies of the period. Additionally, you could probably do some fun kitbashing with these to turn them into Fantasy soldiers for a human empire too.
Will you be pre-ordering one of these Conquistador Cavalry sets?

These look really good, but I can’t help but feel like they are missing a trick by not including pistol/rifle options
I don’t since you can source rifles from the infantry set and pistols would be horribly anachronistic for that time and place since the only people making pistols around that century where in Japan where they were extremely rare and to an even lesser degree Poland.
Literally the only reason to even consider adding pistols of all things to this cavalry set is old world (which is a remarkably BAD reason in several ways starting with this being a rather over laden historical 16th century cavalry set as it is), and I for think it is darn good thing it was deemed not worth it despite the absurd begging from old hammers since that means the market is moving away from “GW fantasy gaming” to more original works with better rules and settings enough that folks are welling to do things the right way with the history sets.
Plus more importantly the cool outrider style pistols and rifles you would want and actually need for old
hammer gaming would not be well swerved by fictional matchlock/match-cord pistols or even the real world aquabuses in the infantry kit since they were mostly multi-barreled wheel-lock, you should be asking for full STL set for those to print an add, not questionable addition to what is likely an already overladen historical kit.
