Lords Of War Previews Amazing Lizardman & Elf Art
June 3, 2013 by brennon
Black Box Games' Lords of War is looking forwards to Lizardman Versus Elves as their next battle pack and below you can see some beautiful artwork for this really tactical game...
It really is a nice art style that harkens back to the older days of role-playing games and wargaming. As I mentioned in the review, which I'm going to link at the bottom, it has a bit of the Ralph Bakshi about it.
Concerning the characters on these cards we have a relatively low level Elf card alongside a heroic Lizardman. With a massive five damage for his ranged attack over a large area and three on all of his front facing attacks he is a force to be reckoned with.
With five defence backing him up he isn't easy to push over either.
What do you think?

I like that the design has more of a hand penned look over the crisp computer graphic style.
Also if that hero lizard is what most of the army will look like I might just get this card game. Looks like fun.
Like the looks of this game!
I used to play the card game in Final Fantasy 8, which is very similar in mechanics to this. I actually played the card game constantly for 15 weeks without sleep, water or sustenance!!! 😛
There is a game for your mobile which is similar to the FF8 card game. It is called “Four Front” (for my Android anyway)
I like the art of the cards, but I do prefer the bold colours look a lot more. This would not make or break a game in my eyes, you could even create your own cards once you have bought the game (although the rules are a free download via their forum page: http://lords-of-war.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2).
The only thing that really bothers me, is that after watching the tutorial videos, it was mentioned that you can combine multiple factions together to create a merc deck (Which sounds AWESOME!!), but with this, you can also have the same mobs several times. You will ofc need to buy multiple copies in order to do this and that is the bit that worries me at this early stage. The question I ask myself is. Is it going to turn into a game that requires multiple copies to play competitively? Will you be able to buy individual cards at a later date? Will this turn into a gold dump like Magic the Gathering? As a stand alone game, it is nicely priced at £15. With more sets coming out like the elf and Lizard, which I will assume is the same price, this COULD scale out of control IF you don’t keep an eye on it, so maybe waiting for it to be available via online discount stores could be a good option if you really must have it.
I am really hoping my fears are wrong though, as I would really like to get a game like this, but I WILL NOT revisit my MtG mistakes!
To all MtG players that say MtG isn’t a mistake….. that is the mistake. 😛 hehe

Hi Mick and everyone
I am one of the creators of Lords of War and I would like to tell you that “Lords of War” is NOT a Magic the gathering type game – we have specifically made it so it is not like that – after research by talking to gaming groups and people at game shows it was clear that most mature gamers didn’t want a magic type arms race game. You do not need to buy lots of copies to play competitively because all the Armies are nicely balanced due to the very hard work of Martin Vaux the co-creator – there is no ultimate army and an army can only be personalised to a limited extent according to the ranking rules. I myself play Dwarves – I am a Dwarven purist. I have purchased 2 Dwarf packs. I usually play with the core deck that comes with the game and have only been beaten a few times. I do swap a few rank and file cards in and out sometimes to try different combination – I do like those Dwarven sharpshooters – great cards. I have also purchased an Elves vs Lizardmen deck to understand how the enemy work. So to date I have spend £39 and for the hours of friendship and entertainment it has been worth every penny.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any further question.

All the best
