Onslaught Glide In With Upcoming 15mm Stygian Vehicles
December 25, 2015 by brennon
If you're looking to build up your dark and enthralled Stygian army in 15mm then Onslaught have previewed some of the upcoming vehicles that will be coming soon to their webstore. See what you think of their Vampire Gliders and Shadow Destroyer.
Here we have some neat looking cartoon-ish Stygians with glaives at the ready to do some drive-by style slaughtering on their Gliders. As you can see they are quite tiny but I think they've done well to work on highlighting the details of each sculpt.
I think at this 15mm scale you have to exaggerate certain components like the heads, armour and weapons to make them stand out.
The Shadow Destroyer alternatively has no hangers on here and instead just a rather large weapon strapped to the front of it. I could see this floating around the battlefield looking to pick off weaker vehicles with its lance-type weapon on the front.
What do you think of the Stygians?

Are you sure it’s 15mm? I thought Onslaught produced ‘not Epic’ scale, 6mm miniatures. The first graphic above says ‘actual size 11mm’ which to me looks like they’re ‘not Dark Eldar hellions’ in the normal, 6mm, Epic scale.
The tank, being 50mm long is probably also a 6mm scale vehicle.
Last I checked they had a little bit in 15MM but like you say, most of the range is 6MM (epic) scale.
I am glad to see most of the old GW 40K verse slowly getting knocked off in 6mm. The game, the scale of it, etc. is vastly more suitable for play at a smaller scale. The idea that titans in 28MM are going to be on a 4×6 table with bane blades and gigantic two foot long flying things … is beyond silly. In the days of 4th edition the game was mostly about platoon to company level engagement, mostly foot troops, with some vehicle support. There were silly bits, like having field artillery pieces deployed next to hand to hand troops, etc. but all in all … it worked … it was fun … and there was at least a little element of cool battlefield tactics and strategy to the game (I say an “element” … not that it was an end all be all system).
I enjoyed the game like that. When GW moved to the current model of two foot tall, $900.00 models, that you need to have three of … to play a pickup game against a store troll … I stopped buying an started looking for alternatives.
Since then we have been slowly looking to do fully on 6MM Warhammer 40K … 4th edition (not the epic rules) … and it is very cool. We are considering eventually trying 7th ed. in 6MM … but really don’t have a lot of incentive given how GW does their rules these days … expecting one to pay $40.00 for a three page handout (the kind of thing that used to be free in WD).
Anyway amazingly awesome work from Onslaught and other companies … that are wholesale knocking GW off … because GW refuses to make what people want to buy … they keep trying to cram their whatever the hell their new product focus is … down people’s throats. Back in the day when they had an awesome community, a White Dwarf publication worth subscribing to, great tournaments, tons of fun supported sideline games like Warmaster, Blood Bowl, etc. vibrant games-days (I live in the western US … we haven’t had a games-day out here for nearly a decade) etc. they could get away with that … not anymore. These days unless you happen to live in Europe near a mini gaming hub … GW has little to no appeal … not that there is a true alternative to them … so the option is to just find a group and do your own thing. Long live OLDHAMMER!
I think angelicdespot might be right, traditionally Onslaught have created 6mm range. Still fair play to Ben for posting on Xmas day (just blame too much egg not…)
He’s been releasing some of his lines into 15mm over the past year. Both the Stygians and the Sisterhood have seen some releases so far, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these were actually 15mm.
These will be in 6mm but onslaught has been trying out some stuff in 15mm
Interesting. I used to love Epic, and think that 6mm is a great scale for a 40K universe game, but 15mm would be good too. Large enough to have a bit more animation and variety in the infantry but still small enough to cram lots of stuff in and have great looking scenery.
I’ve been thinking I’d love to play a 15mm Horus Heresy game. That would look amazing.
Those are some nice starbound Drow right there, I really like them.
