Beasts of War Hits your TV Screens… Tomorrow!
October 5, 2011 by beerogre

That's right gang, your favourite tabletop gaming news show is coming to Sky TV Channel 201 and FreeSat Channel 403.
But what time is it on?
Well the show will be hitting the airwaves at 17:30 BST (GMT +1 hour).
This is just the beginning guys. As far as we know, we're the world's first tabletop gaming TV show, so this is our chance to see if we can use the mighty spirit box to grab more gamers in your area and get them into our hobby.
Our initial show might look a lot like On the Table... and for the most part it is. However, we'll be releasing some of our cool insider details and sneak previews exclusively on the extended TV version of show!
But, don't worry if you're one of our loyal internet viewers, or you can't get the TV show. We'll be releasing an On-Demand XL version of the show a few days after the air date, so nobody will miss out.
So join us tomorrow and check out the show and let's see if we can make this a TV launch to be proud off!
So tell us what you think?
Will you be tuning in?
UPDATE: Receiving the show in Europe
Throughout most of Europe, our programmes can be received via any satellite equipment pointing at the Astra/Eurobird complex at 28.2E.
Frequency 11.260 V, FEC 2/3, Symbol Rate 27500, Service ID 52125
A big thanks has to go out to all our sponsors, especially Wayland Games, for helping to make this move to TV possible.

Very cool – I’ve just set the digibox to series record. Good luck guys.
AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!! Not got Sky in my student housing, Is it on Freeview or is that the same as freesat??
Nope we were mistaken about that a few weeks ago – Its on Freesat not Freeview (But we are working on that)
D: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo…………..
I always said to my parents we need freesat… but they will be sorry…
will u ever be on freeview?
Gongratulations guys from getting your own show in TV.
About time as well, for far too long this hobby has been ignored by all, i only hope though that this show will encompass all aspects of table-top wargaming and not just warhammer and the like, cheers gl.
@igorbab We are exactly on the same wavelength here 😉
We have chosen an ‘afterschools’ slot that is straight after video gaming content, we hope its not too early for adults (returning gamers) but think its spot on to show some mega cool stuff to would be gamers.
It will ofcourse have a wide variety and we have some interesting plans for the next episodes to make them appeal a little bit more to the mainstream.
As with everything we do, its always a work in progress that we try to improve upon – its impossible to ‘release perfect’ when your small like us, so we think its better to be there and roll out improvements whenever we can.
I have cable TV 🙁
Can I see it elsewhere?
Yup It will be available on demand here on the website after it has aired (not sure exactly how many days later though)
nice, unfortunate I’m at student housing. Hope you get that freeview up when I go back home 😛
You make us watch alll those adverts and don’t even mention the name of the channel you’re jumping onto.
You give us just one days notice before the show starts.
Most of us will be watching the later internet version.
Sorry for the Short Notice, but it’s an immense amount of work to make this happen and we had to be sure that everything was going to work before announcing.
People think internet video is a mine field – ‘real’ TV is a whole other level of pain lol
Anyway we will be on TV every second Thursday.
Work is starting now on more ‘mainstreamification’ of the content for TV, and plans for the Next Show.
My channels are sorted in numerical order so the number is easier to find, one days notice was enough for me to set the series link and record option without busting a gut with the effort – christ I thought I was negative!
Coh. Shocking isn’t it. I mean they’re just people like su that need to make a living by doing something, but realy why do they have to get money from showing adverts, who cares if they starve. and realy how much work must they put into to providing our free enetertainment and spent days trying to get it sorted for us. Just can’t get the people these days can you?
Just like to point out -if you ahdn’t noticed- I did include some sarcasm in there 😉
Set to record. Looking forward to seeing it. 🙂
Exciting news – good luck guys! Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch (have Freeview, but no Freesat), so I’ll catch up when it goes online 🙂 Fingers crossed you leave the ‘argh it’s crashed/mysteriously stopped working/set on fire (or whatever it is you do to keep breaking your web streams)’ glitches behind for your forays into TV 😀
good luck with the first episode, not sure I will be able to attend it, but never the less here is to good feedback.
Recording it on Sky (with series link 🙂 ) What I want to know though, are we still going to get our Turn 8 at 10:00pm-ish……come on BoW, don’t leave me hanging!
Yes you are indeed.
We will be live tomorrow night at 10pm (ish) sharp! 😉
Sharp? I think their should be another “(ish)” after sharp – 10ish sharpish 😉
Looking forward to it – I’ll go and put it on record. Congrats! 🙂
Hope it goes well! I’ve JUST set to record
Shall have to wait for the On-Demand version of this, but fantastic news guys 🙂 Can’t wait to see it and hope it comes to freeview soon!
Can you get it on virgin?
today what ever channel that is
next year: bbc
i think its safe to say this can only be a good thing: tv but i dont want to jump the gun.
also by a on the table type show so will it only be warren standing in-front of a green screen cause i think it would look cooler if you was in the sort of positions you are in for turn 8 which i hope will be continue you will be excused this week cause of this show but soon i hope to see its return
Yup it’s an extended version of On The Table to begin with. We hope to be reaching out to non gamers and soon to be gamers so we thought On The Table is a nice easy start for them.
So regulars of this site will find it all a bit familiar. But this is about reaching new people 🙂
We have plans were working on for other shows too though
And Turn 8 is gonna run as normal 😉
I dont care if it comes across as familiar. Cant wait to sit back and watch it. Its great to see it going on to TV. Hopefully more people will be brought into the world of board gaming because of it.
Best of luck with it 🙂
So that is tune in at 17:30 for a 18:00 start if turn 8 is anything to go by.
So have the broadcasters been warned about Darrell or is it going to be a B.A and drugged milk (buckie) situation before filming starts.
Just Sky+ it and put it on series link 😀 Its going to be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any plans on getting a sexy female co-host?
lets just pray they try and turn that into darrels role 😀
no fair, just switched to virgin from sky and now you tell me i can’t get it on the freeview box either. guess i’ll have to put up with waiting a few days and watching it online.
f**k i need to get a satelite dish. which i am not allowed in my rented apartment, also i cant get a backstage pass, because paypal wants a cc…
sad fan and longtime viewer here 🙁
But congrats and i’m sure you’ll rock the skies:)
will this be available via your website also? I only ask as I do not have a TV and never owned one in the 35 years of my existence.
Glad you are branching out though, it’s great news for you guys and shows how much effort you guys actually put into you hobby/work. Hope it leads to all manor of great things for TV, Who nows we may even get a decent D+D movie…. ok that was a bit to far 😛 hehe
Thanks again
Broadside. /two thumbs fresh
Yesssss! After all the awful shows my wife has subjected me to – she can suffer my kind of TV!
I can’t wait to see the look on her face!

Just set the Sky+ to record, can’t wait.
Well done boys and good luck!!!
Sky+ has also been setup ready to record the whole series.
can you let it run on belgian tv plz 🙂 don’t have sat otherwise i would look …
couple questions,
1) is this a sort of “rent a slot” channel or what?
2) does said channel have a name?
3) Daww. Not on Freeview =( (not a question, I know)
1, dunno
2, showcase
3, its available online if you follow the link from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_TV#Showcase_TV
Sky+ it. Looking forward to it and wish you guys every sucess!
set the sky+ box to record & remind for the series,
claimed the wide screen for the duration.
pre booked the best location on the sofa.
ordered a nice mug of rosy lee to be delivered at 17:30.
told the mr’s to take the phone of the hook.
sending my daughter to tidy her room.
bought the dog a bone.
think that covers everything
furyion
Make sure to show off some Brushfire 🙂
Congrats guys, awesome news!
Congratulations Beasts, all the best!
By any chance can you string two cans across to Canada so we can at least hear what’s going on?
Series linked and set to record cos I don’t get in from work till nearly 6 – an extended “On the Table” is a perfectly good format to begin with – this could be a big step forward for the hobby if it’s done properly – no pressure lol 🙂
Thank the gods for sky+
Good luck guys
Hi guys good news.
For those like me with Virgin ( freeview) and you have an I-product and/or computer you can go and sign up for http://www.tvcatchup.com/
I have nothing to do with them, just noticed it on the wiki link cazboab put on this post, just thought this might help cut out the searching. Plus I had forgotten that I had it on my iphone.
GOOD LUCK tonight.
Opps missed thats UK only for tvcatchup, and its free to sign up and use!
Yeah I posted the wrong link, I meant to post this:
http://www.information.tv/WhatIsOnShowcaseTv/TheSchedule/
Which is the channel’s own website, and according to them has world wide access.
Great news, we will all be watching over here.
@waylandgames Big thanks to you guys over there for your part in making it possible!
Is it on Virgin? I refuse to pay Murdoch tax.
not on virgin but http://www.information.tv/WhatIsOnShowcaseTv/TheSchedule/ has orange Orange “watch live” buttons at the side, at 5:30 the middle one of them will say “wargaming news- on the table” or possibly “please god let Darrel keep his trousers on.”
lol just seen this! Ditto below! 😉
Fantastic! Looking forward to seeing your handsome mugs on the large screen!
Great work guys excellent news, we cant wait to watch it! Is 5:30 to early for beer??
Big Congrats guys! Have series linked it for continued watching.
It occurs to me that your Turn 8 shows, that you try to make an hour long, end up a lot longer than normal with all the fun & entertainment you normally fit in….have you told the other shows that they ARE get bumped back in the time slots? 😉 Good Luck guys!
If you don’t have Sky or Freesat you can legally watch the show here…
http://information.tv/WhatIsOnShowcaseTv/TheSchedule/?programId=158927#
All the best BoW and good luck with todays GO LIVE SHOW!! 😉
Sorry…here
http://information.tv/WhatIsOnShowcaseTv/TheSchedule/
Best of luck guys, echo the comments of others that you get out what you put in so, if its as good as the site and coverage online, as Del’ Boy once said,”this time next year……”
Hope it doesn’t mean less content or focus online though.
Just one question, if Darryl goes on is his rider a box of pampers 😉
All the best
Pete
Good luck guys, I’m assuming Darrel won’t be featuring as you’re not on the adult channel.
well that was good
Cheers!
Waiting for the rest of the team who went off to the pub to watch it to get back and see what tweaks need to be made to the next one!
Just seen it, pleasure to view our hobby on the big screen!
Its great to see it on “real” telly(even if I am watching it on the internet) but I can’t help feel it would be good to have had something a wee bit more than last week’s on the table, maybe just a tiny update and a preface explaining what the hell is going on to new veiwers- particularly odd was to hear the question of “were is super dungeon explore” two days after the pre orders were announced on the site…
Will this become the primary outlet for on the table with the XL version going up on here a couple days after? Cos that seems like a pretty good idea.
Good show team. Guys…remember to vote for BoW TV here:
http://www.information.tv/ProgrammeFeedback/
😀
Ohh hadn’t noticed that, That would be quite helpful if some of you guys let the channel know that you liked the coverage! Of course if you didn’t like your free to tell them that too lol
Ok guys Im really liking this! But how will the content work? Wargaming is not exactly the most casual viewer friendly enterprise and even then games cannot be realistically recorded to view by anyone but a small market of avid viewers.
What can this show provide that is not already being done by podcasts and the internet forums that already exist?
One thing this may lead to is a new level of participation by GW with hobbiests. If a TV show is not good enough advertising I don’t know what is!
On another note, when is that beastsofwar event happening that was mooted?
What can this show provide that is not already being done by podcasts and the internet forums that already exist?
Good question and one we are exploring at the moment (and probably for sometime to come) I think the fact that its on TV is the first thing and its being scheduled right after a video gaming show (deliberately)… but i think the true answer to that question is gonna become clear a little further down the road.
Sorry, I should explain further. What advantages do you see this having over your competition? I will be very interested to see how this project could innovate beyond the usual podcast/blog/forum/video format that is already well established while also moving into a position were it can entice further interest from those outside the hobby.
This is going to sound strange, but we are really not thinking in terms of competition, we are purely thinking in terms of growing the hobby and pushing towards the mainstream.
In saying that competition is a good thing, but its not the only thing that drives us to innovate.
I think as we continue to explore all the mediums (remember we have Jason and Nate who are going to fire up Beasts of War Radio too) we’ll hopefully get a better handle on what works and what helps new and returning hobbyists.
I don’t think that sounds strange at all – I think it sounds like exactly the right kind of attitude needed.
I know what it will do. It will make you the Johnny Depp of the table top game world. Don’t worry Lloyd, you can be the Orlando Bloom of the table top game world 😛
To gauge the success of the TV show, when people sign up to BOW you could add in the compulsary question of where did you hear about BOW? It’s pretty standard in all marketing data collection.
Good job BOW! I’ve been watching you guys since the start of your first YouTube channel way back in the day and I’m so impressed with how far you’ve come. Don’t ever stop pushing forward, and show the world what the Beasts Of War are made of.
perhaps a bit over the top, But I still think it’s down right awesome to see the hobby I know and love progressing ever forward.
Thank you BOW for all the work you’ve done for us.
it may just be the channel but you were super wide screen when I watched it and my telly is always bang on with it’s screen size, loved it though can’t wait to see how it develops although you may want to stick it on after 9pm if darrell does any of the shows
It’s a bit shite that – thanks to the crap broadcast time, my working hours and a distinct lack of Sky+, means i’ll never ever get to watch BoW on TV.
Great to see the hobby on real tv! Good work
You have taken your first step into a larger world.
could’ve given us a bit more notice. i been looking forward to this loads. left for work at 6 this morning and just got home after a looooong day to find i missed it. cheers. thanks for that. not happy. very disappointing.
Hi @captainbirdbum , we know it was short notice but for a very good reason.
This is the first time we have adjusted the workflow of On the Table for it to go onto TV and we needed to be sure we had ticked all the boxes.
For example was there any imagery or dialog that would stop the show running, TV rules are quite strict and was the format the files had been rendered in compatible with the station.
OTT is made primarily for the net and as such we use a format that works well online which is 720p (1208 x 720px) 30fps progressive. But for broadcast in the UK you need to use 25fps and on the current channel it also needs to have its resolution changed and the frames interlaced.
Anyway in short we wanted to make sure it would happen and not say to early it’s going to be on guys only to then need say opps actually it’s not.
Also for the next show we still have things to change like the positioning of titles and URLs to make sure they are fully visible and not cut off at the sides. You don’t need to worry about that for online but for TV you have to deal with over scan (a safety area for what’s visible on TV).
ANYWAY I think we are set for a Re-Run at the same time next Thursday so if you missed it you can catch it then and then the week after that it will be a new episode.
Thanks for watching
BoW Lloyd.
When filling the form at http://www.information.tv/ProgrammeFeedback/ the program is list under wargaming on the table not Beasts of War in the drop list …
Hope it does well! I don’t own a TV so won’t be able to watch Live sadly but good luck anyway 🙂
Well done guys actual tv and everything! I don’t have sky as it’s all repeats anyways 😉 but we’ll be watching it online as soon as possible 😀
if you missed it just wait for the repeat on Dave 😛
There was a wargaming programme on Tyne Tees around 1978.
It was narrated /introduced by Edward Woodward, called Battleground.
So best of luck ! ….Battleground went 6 episodes and got pulled. 🙁
I remember the “Battle of the Nile” was my favourite. 🙂
Zellak fae Scotland.
Thanks for this 🙂
I’m off to do a bit of research on this and see what we can dig up!
Edward Woodward seemed to have fronted this, and I was surprised it wasn’t better known, but seems it only aired on a couple of the ITV regions :o(
Checking into a couple of others and apparently Angela Rippon may have fronted one.
Would love to get our hands on the archive shows!
I remember the Edward Woodward show – historical wargaming http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/20467
There was also a series that refought historical battles on Channel 4 “Game of War”, http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/paddygriffith/other.htm the opposing “generals” were in separate rooms to allow “fog of war” and battles between units were resolved using some formula that was used in the military – essentially one d6 for each unit IIRC. Then there was the computer based series where teams refought historical battles, Time Commanders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Commanders
I recall all these shows very vaguely- not really about boardgames/wargames as such however
I think total war was the game that came about from the Time commanders tv show…or am i dreaming?
Maybe if i clicked the wikki links id have my answer
I recieved a nice email from Fred Perkins (Information TV/Showcase TV) this morning :-
“We’re really grateful to all of you who have taken the time to contact us after the premiere “On the Table” broadcast. Clearly, the programme has attracted a lot of interest and excitement…. and we too, hope it will grow from these small beginnings.
Warren and his team have done really well in stirring up interest – and it’s obvious there is a real demand for a programme like this on ‘real’ TV. We’re glad to be able to help make it happen.
What’s crucial is that it has to work commercially for the Beasts of War team… themselves, their advertisers and their sponsors. So be sure to spread the word further, and you’ll be helping us all!
..and thanks again for making it clear to US that this is a welcomed new programme!
Regards,
Fred Perkins (Information TV/Showcase TV)”
Nice to get a bit of feedback 🙂
Odd – why would my post need moderation?
I have had that happen at times- wierd aint it
I think its cos you didnt insert the word cheese
It happens when there are more than two links in the comment – to try and keep spamming down 🙂
I prefer the lack of cheese explanation 🙂
I just set my Sky Record – Best wishes for the show!
