About the Project
Have long been intrigued by the system and setting for Wolsung by MicroArts. Once I received a Starter Club for my birthday I knew it was time to learn the game and paint some great figures. This project blog is to chart both my creative endeavors as well as my journey into learning how to play. In addition to MicroArts' lovely minis I will be adding in anything I think fits the genre of what I am building. Might even build some terrain...

Ash and Oak For a Friend
Well, Necron099 and I have succeeded in hooking a friend of ours on this wonderful game and he wants to start with Ash and Oak. I had picked up a collection on eBay that included an Ash and Oak starter set which was just looking for a good home. So I decided to paint the minis as well in trade for gaming things he had, a win/win. The set includes Mary Fearless and Archibald Armstrong leading an Ogre Bruiser, a Housemaid, and a Distant Relative. Two ogres, one of which can throw cards and a dead-eye markswoman make for a formidable combination. Add in the flexibility of the relative with the healing power of the maid and you have a great beginning team. That was my first set as well.
Inventors' Club Gets Some Love
As I have been making steady headway on my collection Triad of the Lotus Dragon models I needed to provide some balance by working on Inventors and Ven Riers at the same time. Thorvald Nielsgaard and his whole Tony Stark vibe seemed a good one to start the Inventors off with. Between the punch of that arm, lightening, and shield casting this Scientist is going to be fun to play.
First Figure Finished in 2021
This bruiser of a Triad Ogre Hit the painting table (Basic Training in my mind) the morning of New Years Eve. I guess I wanted to start the year on a big note and this guy is big. All the other Wolsung ogres I’ve painted so far were on 30mm bases this Sumo is on a 40mm and even tougher. Going to bring a lot of muscle to my Triad of the Lotus Dragon gang.
Shadow Comes Out of the Shadows
As 2020 came to a close I was working away on some more Wolsung minis. I’ve now added a henchman to my Triad gang. Shadow looks to add some ranged firepower to my mist walking heroes.
Hisao Shiryo Wizard of the Mists
While I do love the aesthetic of Wolsung minis some of their bits and pieces make test fitting a necessity. Hisao Shiryo’s magic smoke attaches at the end of the pipe as well as his upper back so some careful bending may be required. The ties of his belt only attach in one small point so care and good lighting are recommended while super glue Zip-Kicker is almost required.
Imports and Exports
I ordered two of the Orc Traders so I could build both versions. Here is the first one I’ve completed. He was actually the first Triad figure I painted and discovered I prefer my orcs to be green so repainted him. I think the Secret Weapon base with Secret Weapon Water Effects really adds to the fellow’s overall look.
Back to Where I Started- Work in Progress
I’ve been working on an Ash and Oak starter set for a friend of mine who has enjoyed playing the game so far. I’ve already finished an Ogre Bruiser but I just got these other four base coated. Other than the bronze metallic on Archibald’s arm I used all Contrast Paints. They actually look pretty good so far, almost table ready but I have plans. Besides, they are for a friend so I really want to bring my A Game.
A Little Automated Help
Two Lab Golems and a Golem Servant are ready for action and in the collection. The servant is one of the Unaffiliated so anyone can hire her. The Lab Golems are Henchmen and the beginning of my Inventors Club.
