The finished results. The cats got a hold of one of them while it was still wet (wee pricks that they are), and it went a bit bald… and furry.  I might have went a bit heavy on the dark tone, but I think it helps with the gloominess.

At this point I’ve finished flocking the bases.  My flat has a magical effect of making things take ages to dry… four f*****g days.  I even used my other half’s hairdryer to try and speed the process, I got bored after an hour and a half and left it to nature.

Here we have the flock attached. I started by sprinkling the dark tone around the gravestones. I then sprinkled some mid tone and finally a tiny dash of bright tone. This was to try and give some semblance of depth. Here we have the flock attached. I started by sprinkling the dark tone around the gravestones. All lined up ready for sealing. I mixed some pva and water, to the consistency of milk, in a spray bottle, which I sprayed over the whole lot to seal it. The foam flock soaks the glue up giving it great adherence than sawdust flock. I then went and cleaned the big rivulets of glue off of the gravestones with a cotton bud.All lined up ready for sealing. I’ll undercoat these at some point in the future, it’s pissing it down right now so no priming today.

Later this afternoon the flockening begins.

I thought I’d try setting the terrain up.  The mat is from deep cut studio. I plan to get a new one at some point in the future, I’m thinking something with the paths printed on it.

The addition of 4ground trees makes everything look better. The addition of 4ground trees makes everything look better.

I’m hoping to get the flocking done on the gravestones this weekend. Although I’m going to need to make a few more bases to fully populate the board. I’m aiming to have enough to fill a 3×3 board, or a 4×4 at a push. Do I dare do a 6×4?

I’ve got my eye on some railings that renedra make. A few more 4ground trees would be nice too.

My other half picked this up from Dave’s Wargames about a year ago. I think it’s awesome due to the fact that it breaks down allowing you to play in every part of it.

I’m hoping we can at least make a start on painting it before the end of the competition.

Cthulhu obelisk

I found this Cthulhu obelisk thingy from Fenris games in my bits box. I bought it years ago and haven’t done anything with it. I’ve been playing a fair bit of resident evil 4 lately, and the village in that is full of weird cult stuff like that, so I thought I’d just add it in.

The obelisk undercoated.The obelisk undercoated.

I’ve painted this up in the same way as the gravestones, by drybrushing it grey, followed by a lighter grey and then by ivory.  Unlike the gravestones  this thing is a lot craggier and bigger. So I added an extra step. I gave it a very patchy light drybrush of Lothern Forest. This gave it an effect like there’s lichen on it.  It’s not that visible in the pictures but you can definitely see it with the naked eye.

Also Empire was great. I can’t wait for the next one.

I’ve not done much this week.  I’m LARPing this weekend and most of my time has been spent prepping for that.

I have however painted the edges of the bases, and I’ve decanted my newly acquired flock into some yoghurt pots.  Seriously though I ‘ve eaten a lot of yoghurt this week.

Hopefully I should get a bit more progress done next week.  Providing I’m not too knackered from Empire.

Time to make some texture paint. Here we have a disposable pint glass to mix it in. A tongue depresser for stirring. An ice cream tub full of sand. Some cheap filler in a squeezy tube and some cheap dark brown paint. Time to make some texture paint. Here we have a disposable pint glass to mix it in. A tongue depresser for stirring.
