About the Project

This log will follow the creation of the Return to Val Verde display game of Spectre Operations that will be shown at the colours wargames show on September 15 2018, and is being prepared by the A few Brits and the hobby podcast. In this operation a USSF team will be attempting a hostage rescue of a pair of journalists being held by a powerful cartel. Simultaneously, a CIA black team will be conducting Its own operation...

For those wanting to run the game themselves, I thought I’d upload the scenario.

Before playing, players should decide if they want to be the CIA, the SEALS, or the Cartel, and the CIA player should be the one to print and distribute the scenarios…

Very pleased to say that on Saturday we managed to get the display set up, and even got to play a bit in the afternoon.

The game drew a lot of attention so we were kept busy talking for most of the day and ran out of time, and the game was too close to call when the time came to pack up.

Already coming up with plans for more Spectre….

Choppers done. The flight stand is a telescopic magnetic pointer glued to an mdf base. I’ve also added pennies and lead shot to the base to act as a counterweight to the aircraft.

The Huey is held on with a magnet too, so i can use the base for other aircraft too.

Got to the Choppa!

I’ve nearly finished this 1/48 UH1N for the game too. Currently built in sub assemblies, with crew from Spectres Razer crew.

All the clear parts are masked with liquid mask at the moment I’ll peel off once its all built.

I’m about to put it together, varnish and stick a magnet underneath so it can be posed either on a flying stand or the board as needed.

The derelict ships are done. All the weathering is done by building up layers of washes and drybrushing oils and enamels. Was very quick to do, but needs time to dry…

Today I’ve managed to get quite a bit done.

I’ve sprayed all the block colours in with rattle or the airbrush, and worked in fading and weathering using artist oils.

Texture the chirch was added using Vallejo texture paint.

On the latest A few Brits and the Hobby podcast we were lucky enough to be joined by our friends at Spectre Miniatures.

We have a great chat about both the game and miniatures design process. Some language might be NSFW! Mainly when we hear how much Steve sculpts…
