The first Space Wolf redemptor dreadnought.
This is some model kit, very impressive!
Its also much bigger in person than I thought it would be!
Done...
Very happy with this big boy! I’ve had the kit sat there for a long time, so its well overdue.
The model its self, looks cool, looks like there are plenty of options for posing with some minor adjustments it looks like. So on my next one of these I might try my hand and making it look a little more unique.
The Gatling cannon is awesome looking and I suspect I’ll try using it the most 🙂
Blood Angel Smash Captain
Ive been missing a generic Captain for my Blood Angels, and had decided to build one of these “Smash Captains” I had heard so much about online!
First I wanted him to stand out from the rest of the army so I build a rocky base to give him a bit of a height increase. I mainly used sanguinary guard bits to make the model itself. I added a shield from the Adeptus Custodes set, with a few Blood Angel markings added on. The hammer head is from the Blood Angel terminator captain, and is attached to one of the Encarmine axe hafts.
Paint wise, I’ve airbrushed the black primer on to all of the model, once dry I’ve sprayed a light grey colour from the top of the miniature, at a slight angle. I’m hoping this can help me with shading the red once I airbrush that on.
Base coloured
I have the base reds down, first Mephiston red, then I added Evil Sun Scarlet. That was sprayed from the top of the model again at an angle.
After it was dry I gave it a very light dry brush using Troll Slayer Orange. That was just to try and pick out a couple of the armour edges.
The face is base coated, and the hair… Plenty more work to do!
Further progress on the Smash Captain..
A few washes done, and most of the colours done. Need a little more tidying and highlighting. Bit more work on the blood droplets to be done too.
Trying to make sure I do a little each night at least! Tough after a hard days work I must admit 🙂
Done!
Finished the smash captain finally last night, pretty happy with him, fits in with the rest of my Blood Angel force.
I did hum and haa over if he should be red armoured or gold… I decided with the red in the end as well hes just a generic captain, and wanted to keep the gold armoured guys as the special characters or Sanguinary Guard 🙂
Weekender and XLBS hobby!
Bit of work on the Conquest magazine minis this weekend while watching the Weekender and then continued while watching XLBS.
So with the magazine issue 2 and 6 you get 3 easy fit Plague marines. I actually already have these three already with the First Strike box. I wanted to make sure I didnt have 3 sets of exactly the same marine in the army so I ordered a box of the multi part Plague Marines so that I could interchange parts etc.
The first image is of a multi part marine built and sprayed with the DeathGuard green.
Second pic is the much the same with one of the easy build guys in the front!
The last 3 pictures are the three replicated marines together so you can see how i have tried to change them up. The hardest I found was the guy with the bolter. With my limited converting skills i attempted to hack certain bits off and add tiny little differences. The other two I found a bit easier to change weapons and arms etc.
Have been looking forward to this miniature, have always loved the idea of a model drawing a sword from a scabbard… Now its a real thing!
This weekends Weekender and XLBS update!
Busy week hobby-wise and again it kicked off on Saturday morning with the Weekender. Love watching and listening to the shows while painting or building models!
First up is the Death Guard. I’been working on a number of Plague Marines along with some Poxwalkers.
I also received my order of stuff that will go alongside my Conquest and Dark Imperium Death Guard….
Excited to start work on them but, have made a deal with myself that I will complete what i have built first….
Further weekend work!
Poxwalkers pretty much done 🙂
I have always wanted to try out the new GW painting handles… So I started work on the first Conquest Ultramarine.
Its GREAT! I have always blue-tacked my models to bottle tops to paint… But this handle is so comfortable, and the model is much more stable and secure! I will certainly be picking up a couple more when I can.
Plague marines
Well finished off these 8 marines, and well the varnish frosted slightly on them…. was quite annoyed, but some gloss varnish touch ups and I think they turned out alright!
I think the big axe fella might be my favourite so far!
I have 5 more marines to work on through the week as well as 6 more poxwalkers!
Hobby area update
Something Ive been wanting to look into for ages was my lighting situation, Ive found with the dark evening coming in its been harder to get some painting done when I get home from work.
This lamp was handy, and pretty cheap on Amazon, but the connection wasn’t great, if it moved the light flickered or shut off. It did good job for me over the last few years but its time for a change.
I picked up this floor lamp from a tattoo supplier, was £120 so a lot more expensive, but if it enables me to keep working on my hobby in the winter months it will have been worth it!
The light it gives is fantastic, its adjustable and on the floor. That means it frees up some space on my desk as well! Win win so far.
I’m very happy with this change, and hope to add a couple more to my hobby area shortly. Better paint storage is next on the cards.
I've felt a lot like these boys this week!
I had these pretty much finished last weekend, but due to being ill this week I’ve not managed to update anything on here yet.
So without further ado …
Hobby area update
Finally got some more paint storage area set up, will just need to full out my collection now!
2 very cheap nail polish racks I picked up on eBay! Just enough space to have them side by side on the wall. Cant recommend them enough, seem to fit every kind of paint pot that I have! (Citadel , Vallejo, AK Interactive)
One of my first paint jobs....
I sold most of my old 2nd edition 40k stuff to a local club when I was in school and moving house. I wish I hadn’t of course but moaning now wont bring them back!
I did however a couple of years ago call into the club and the guy who ran it was able to give me one of my old Space Wolves back! Posting it here to show after watching this weekends Weekender!
This-weeks work
Slow progress with work getting in the way this last week but I have managed to get a few more Plague Marines finished…
Again the simple method for these, but they turn out nasty enough for Nurgles finest! Again as normal I have tried to hide the fact that they are duplicate figures buy adding these slightly different weapons and heads.
Next..
I am closing in on completing all the models that I have built. I have just completed Arjac Rockfist. I’ve had this model in the blister for years, and well I got there… Lets just say that…
I really am not a fan of working with finecast and the hammer is still not quite straight but I got it sorted as best I could.
Now before I can build anything else I have promised to finish painting what I have currently built up. That leaves a squad of Wulfen for my Space Wolves and the Conquest Ultramarines..
Taking my time with this one, once I have him done I think I will be able to fly through the remaining 4 guys. I just wanted to take it slow and plan out what had to be done with these models. There is a lot of detail on them all so having a plan of attack should help!
Wulfen Pack Leader
Think I’m finished this guy… Most of the work was done yesterday, but today added the finishing touches while watching XLBS.
I hope now that I have this done I can get the remaining 4 guys done quicker. I did find this model had an awful lot of details etc to keep track of!
Day out at OTT :)
What a lovely day out yesterday up to see the pro shop, and members area. I spent the afternoon there getting some hobby work done after I made sure to call in to Burger King for lunch!
Got most of the base coating and washes done on two of the remaining 4 Wulfen models, need to finish a few highlights then tidy up any bits I’ve missed.
After seeing John’s Ultramarines on the Pro-shop demo board I was motivated to try and improve my own Ultramarine colours, I love the blue he has been able to create so have set out to recreated it as best i can with what I have done already.
Happier with my results now, before I felt the blue was a little flat, I think its looking a little better now
What a great set up the whole thing is and although its a whole day out for me to spend an afternoon there it was worth it yesterday… more so if i didnt get a repeat Space Marine Hero box !!! But seriously I cant recommend the place enough, if you get the chance call in!
Oh and thank you Warren for twisting my arm for Sigmar! haha! Enjoyed that little demo whooping! 😀
Wulfen Complete
Finally got these boys done so than i’m happy enough.
Much more detail on these models than I thought! That is all my build Space Wolves complete now!
Moving on to getting the Conquest magazines Ultramarines done! Hopefully got a progress update for tomorrow!
