USING THE COSTUME DESIGNS TO PAINT MY STAR WARS LEGION
Recommendations: 449
About the Project
When I started collecting Star Wars Legion miniatures I approached it in the same way I do historical collections. I used a very nice book of the costumes used in the films as a guide for my painting. Whats interesting is how the colours of some costumes look different on film then they do in real life and some of the details that you can easily miss. I've two starwars projects so I'm cancelling this one.

PRUNE FACE
Prune face comes as part of the rebel commando kit although in the movies you’d miss him if you blink. You spot this alien in the briefing scene in Return of the Jedi but I dont recall seeing him running around Endor but i presume he’s about. His cloak is a different colour to the other commandos going for a brown Khaki shade rather than green.
REBEL COMMANDOS
The commandos we see on Endor wear the usual Rebel Khaki but with a dash of green on ponchos and long coats. This was easy to paint because you dont have to be too careful with it.
REBEL OFFICER
I was looking forward to getting my hands on some generic commanders for this game. Rogue One was the inspiration for this paint scheme and they use the same rank insignia’s that were developed by the old RPG back in the day.
SCOUT TROOPERS
Scout troopers have to be my favourite looking troopers. I think it’s the helmet design, I wish we had seen troops with the front face plate open. They made use of this feature in the rebels series to show the hero in disguise with out taking his helmet off every five minutes, the front just flips up. I liked the sniper miniatures clearly inspired by the video games.
IMPERIAL NAVY COMMS
I was hoping for a full unit of these troopers but so far we just have the one specialist. Like Vader it’s all black of course so a very easy paint. I took some ideas from the helmet with a few metal chips and I usually varnish the helmets so they have that plastic look. The helmet image are props from a New Hope while the image bellow is from Rogue One. Death Star troopers are meant to be navy troops so you only really see them on board ship or manning bases.
DARTH VADER
Vader like the storm troopers is dominated by one colour. The only variation from black is on his belt and life support chest piece. His eye lenses have a red tint. In the original film his helmet is mat black but from empire on wards it’s got a shine. Which is why he looks off to me in Rogue One as they went for the original look. I prefer his helmet shiny so I glossed my minis head.
STORMTROOPERS
When I started painting my troopers I realised they arent all just black and white. The eye lenses are green and the vents in the side of the helmet are bright blue. There is also a number of grey areas and a subtle difference in the design from film to film.
