About the Project

*Edited looking to play moderns with my brother I got a couple of models in the pass it on thing beasts of war created earlier this year thanks to the generosity of @darkdanegan and was also able to swap for a few more with @enginseer, then i bought some modern insurgents and military. The big thing is i didn't want to step on anyones toes so I might go down a slightly more 'pulpy' moderns by bringing in a select few miniatures from the infinity series as more 'rainbow six siege' style moderns - i think this will be what gets my brother into the games such as spectre and skirmish sangin by dipping his toes with an aesthetic he loves. --- I bought a load of miniatures which I never got around to paint.. below are the first few and to be honest i made some mistakes. The things are like are some of the faces on the miniatures, I'm not very good at painting darker skin tones, so i have been playing around with these miniatures, however on future ones I'll try and refine my technique somewhat. my favourite was a hint from mel the terrain tutor - using herbs on the bases to create jungle like conditions (with a wash over the top! love it!)

I also wanted to add some insurgent types which are a bit like the rainbow six aesthetic so I have added a few of the infinity models i had lying around for ‘characters’ within the insurgents

vaguely based on solid snake and the kilt man I have tried to do a kilt in cornish colours!

This project changed alot in the time it took me to do nothing. In that time i have a large pile of moderns to paint. I want to get my brother into playing some moderns so would like a varied mix – above are the modern military types, which I believe are canadian however initially they’ll play the gap for most western nation state forces. I think we will end up going more down a rainbow six route as this is the sort of aesthetic that he likes…

This might be a short one.

I ended up getting the rest of the miniatures which were partly primed and a bit of green was painted on them.

I followed the pattern of painting below and quickly painted the rest, i like the weathered – rained on look it gives them too

  1. i liked how these turned out, i have 6 left which i might paint a little differently, some are downed airment2 im not sure i am a fan of the cartoony faces, think i would want something a bit more serious next time3) the bases look great, i used herbs pva’d down, ink washed the top then varnished them – which seems to give a good wet ground look. Downside they vaguely smell like bolognese!

and a last few group pics!
