About the Project
Long have I been drawn to the allure of Burrows and Badgers or the Beatrix Potter Skirmish Game as I like to think of it. The sculpts are charming and the casts quite clean. I've got a growing collection which includes all the hound minis because I do love dogs and what I've painted so far has been a ball (dog pun). The other Burrows and Badgers Project Blogs I've been watching have inspired me to get to work on my own and see what animals I can get covered in paint. Since I've been having such fun with these minis I've ordered more so my bands will be growing in number and diversity. Going to be a fun journey.

Fly By Night, Away From Here...
Decided to increase the numbers of my nocturnal air force and have finished the Owl. Like the tortoise, he seems a wise old fellow and so I felt his armor should look a little older, well worn. It is obvious to me how much the Lovejoys are inspired by the real life creatures they anthropomorphize into tiny fighting toys by the details and character included. That, in turn, is what I find inspiring…
that and @brennon’s delivery crew…
and @robert’s tartan skills…
and the amazing enthusiasm and support of OTT members.
Town Watch Begin Their First Shift
Two for one with this post as I completed two Town Watch Mouse models, one with a crossbow and one with a halberd. They look like the kind of fellows who might back up Tico so their livery was painted to match his. They make a charming little team but not sure how effective the tiny team will be at thwarting crime. Maybe like Sgt Colon and Nobby Nobbs of the Ankh-Morpark City Watch they will succeed through dumb luck. Regardless, they are adorable if not intimidating.
Frog Burgher
With all these animals getting painted I’m on my way to a village full of them. Time for some leadership and organization in the form of a Frog Burgher. Not sure what his role in the game will be but I had to paint this jaunty guy. He’s probably good at paperwork at least.
Finally, a Badger Joins the Collection
If I’m going to collect miniatures for Burrows and Badgers I should really have a badger in the collection. So the Badger Sage is finished and ready to advice. He does look like a wizened old guy, lean from years of travel and adventure. Despite those years, he still looks capable and ready for action.
He Otter Be a Pirate
Okay, he is an Otter Pirate. I love otters and it makes perfect sense for one of these water loving Mustelidae to seek adventure on the rivers and high seas. He’s probably a crew mate of the Rat Buccaneer I’ve already painted. In fact this otter looks to be the sort of fellow to drag the little rodent out of the scraps he gets himself into. That cutlass isn’t just for show and, despite having lost an eye in battles past, this pirate looks undaunted and ready for action.
A Tortoise named Testudo
One of the very first figures I saw and understood it was for Burrows and Badgers was the mercenary tortoise. Such a great figure and still sporting the armor he wore as a young tortoise centuries ago. He’s taken good care of his gear and it has taken care of him evidenced by the fact he is still around. I love his solid stature and can imagine a shield wall of these guys being quite terrifying.
If you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall...
Okay, I know she’s actually a hare and not a rabbit but it’s not my fault the song isn’t White Hare. Anyway, it was high time to include some magic to my forces and the Hare Druidess is such a great sculpt I had to start with her. I figured with her all covered in cloak and cowl she might be sensitive to the sun so the choice to paint her as an albino hare seemed logical to me. Bonus that she got red eyes to match her rose.
A Rat Buccaneer has Landed
I will avoid the obvious rat + pirate puns for when I get my hands on Oathsworn’s actual Pi-Rat figure. Until then let us assume this disreputable fellow is either on shore leave or foraging for supplies and plunder. I did notice a fair number of different rat models in the online store so anticipate more joining the collection before too long. I bet he will fit in my Blood and Plunder dinghy.
