About the Project
'There are two fatal errors that keep great projects from coming to life, not finishing and not starting'. I'm almost certain that everyone involved with painting miniatures has, at some point in their lives, suffered hobby burnout, myself included. I've employed various things over the years to keep me painting, be it painting miniatures from whatever game I happen to be playing at the time to painting on a whim. Inevitably, especially with the later, you end up with miniatures in varying states of unfinished, from models that only ever reached the undercoat stage to half finished miniatures. Sound familiar? Now I've got to admit that the usual ways to keep me painting have run out of steam which forces me to find something new to keep me colouring in my tiny fighting soldiers. I've counted 35 or so incomplete miniatures (which isn't too bad actually, considering the amount of miniatures I have). So what's my new way of keeping me painting? Simple, I write all the figures down on pieces of paper and yep, you've guessed it, they all go into a hat and I pull one out and paint it and I continue this until they're all done. So this is what this project is all about. No thrills and spills, just a catalogue of befores and afters. Will this new tool work? Yes for sure but for how long remains to be seen. I guess testament will be if all 35 or so end up in this project, right? Wish me luck, I'm going in... and the first one pulled from the hat is.... a Necron Warden...

Start with the end in mind: Spring Clean Challenge for Stormtroopers
These Stormies were started a few years back. Simple paint jobs here; I find that you don’t get much return on investment by spending a long time on all white armour… or perhaps that’s just the limit of my skills when it comes to painting! In fact some of these were done in Ulthuan Grey as the base, whilst others had Apothecary White slapped on them (Contrasts had not long been out at the time and I was a tad excited as the prospect of Apothcary Grey… which turned out to be ‘alright’).

And the next one is... A Blood Angels Terminator - Brother Deino from Space Hulk. This is another one I started probably 2-4 years ago. I messed up on this, project wise, because I starting adding paint before taking the before pictures. Having said that, the only thing I did before I realised was add in the grey highlights to the black areas.
Not much to look at here with the befores and afters because most of the work was done but at least it’s another miniature put into the completed zone. ‘Appy Days.

..And the next mini to finish is.... The US Marshall from the dungeon crawl Shadows of Brimstone (Swamps of Death Core 2)So here is the US Marshall. The last time he saw some paint was probably 2/3 years ago. Although Shadows of Brimstone is a good game and often compared to Warhammer Quest (1995), the miniatures themselves are pretty basic and lack detail so I had to work harder to get a result that I was prepared to say ‘O.K., that’ll do!’.
Here's the finished result. I'm still not happy but then again I never am with my finished minis but again, two tears in a bucket f**k it! I'm calling it done and moving on. I've done nothing with the base because I'm putting these miniatures on clear bases and I want to rattle can varnish them before I stick them down and it's a bit cold out there at the moment to use a rattle can, especially with varnish!Start with the end in mind
This is how the Necron looked at first so this is the first picture I took. The lighting was not great as it was taken at night. This is the picture of the Necron (with a little paint added) taken during the day so the lighting is a bit better.
I’m calling it done here. Normally I spend a lot longer on miniatures. For example, taking time to blend the blues on the back plates that hang down from the arm but for the sake of finishing, I just did a basic job. On reflection, I think there’s probably too much blue here, specifically the back plates that hang down but two tears in a bucket f*!# it..
