About the Project

In this project I'll be taking my fledgling steps into Marvel Crisis Protocol. I'll be trying out some techniques and paints I've never used before. Wish me luck.

I took Toad outside to spray him yesterday and dropped the bugger. He came off his base, which was an easy fix. But that wasn’t the only thing that broke. A piece of his motley snapped off his wrist and disappeared into the ether. Rather than fanny about with greenstuff, I shaved a bit off a spare sprue and cut it to size. A bit of poly cement later and he’s fixed.

Starting with a zenithal prime for no reason other than I felt like it, I proceeded to clart German Grey from Vallejo over most of the miniature.

From here I drybrushed it with stormvermin fur and again lightly with Ulthuan grey. Next he got two washes of Nuln oil to dull everything down again and tie everything together.

Next I painted all the concrete. I approached this in the same manner as all the concrete thus far.

Finally I painted the metal work. I didn’t want it to be nice and silver, its rubble, its going to have been exposed to the elements. It should be oxidised and dirty. So I went with brown. I chose Dryad Bark, its a nice dark brown and won’t clash with his clothes. I then drybrushed and stippled on some Ryza Rust in varying levels of intensity to try and make it look realistically rusty.

Next I very carefully drybrushed the cloak and gloves with genestealer purple. I also very carefully lined the trim on the helmet with genestealer purple.

Now on to the purple. I carefully (oh so carefully) blocked in the purple parts with xereus purple. Two coats because it’s quite thin.

He’s starting to look like Magneto.

What better way to start my Brotherhood of Mutants than with the Master of Magnetism himself. I started with a zenithal prime. I then painted his face with cadian fleshtone.  This was washed with reikland flesh shade. Then I went in with a detail brush and picked out the raised areas of his face with cabin fleshtone and then with kislev flesh.

Next I gave his armour and helmet a thickish coat of flesh tearers red contrast.

Reinforcements

My Brotherhood have finally arrived, they were held up because of the snow.  I’m going to get fired into these this evening. My Dad had a heart attack last week, so I’ll be going to pay him a visit this afternoon, which as far as hobby delay excuses go is a good one.
