Preparing for Broadside 2021

About the Project
With Broadside 2021 scheduled for the beginning of December it is time to get on with preparing our club demo game for the event. We've put on a game for (I think) every Broadside game show and so this year we have unearthed an idea we had many many years ago, in the hope that it doesn't require too much work (let's see). The idea is an amphibious assault game with Cryx attacking Khador, my contribution is the Khador Army.

Caught up the photos
Had sometime over the weekend to take photographs, actually took them of all the parts of the army and reminded that some of my painting was very basic when I started with Warmachine back in 2003.
Shocktroopers
I completed the Man-o-War shocktroopers that I picked up last weekend and got round to photographing them this week. The base coat is AP Dragon Red, and then highlighted with Pure Red, the unit had been converted with the banner, which now that there is a leader and banner option available could be fielded either way.
Another 'jack, plus some Iron Dragons
So a few posts ago I said I painted all my warjacks for Khador, but then I purchased two more (whoops). So one was assembled and it is this one I have finished painting last week. With this Demolisher (the first time I have brought one) was primed with AP Pure Red spray, a wash of Red Tone and Purple Tone (3:1 mix) to bring out the depth and then edge highlights of AP Pure Red adding increasing amounts of Khador Red Highlight from the P3 range.
Alongside working on this I cracked on with another Manhunter using Contrast paints and the start of a unit of Iron Dragons, primed in Chaos Black and then edge highlighted with P3 Ironhull grey and adding Vallejo Sky Grey. I then undercoated them with Humbrol Gloss Varnish out of a rattle can, with the intention of painting Matt Varnish on the cloaks and bases.
What to do whilst in Isolation (Part One)
Well I’m just over half-way through my Covid-19 Isolation and this is where I got to earlier in the week. 1 Man-o-War Shocktrooper to finish off my unit of 5 in Black Dragon colours. 1 Man-o-War Shocktrooper to represent the dismounted Drakhun, also in Black Dragon colours. 2 Field Guns – one of which I had already painted the 2 crewmen. Nothing overly special in the painting of this lot The new Field Gun team is all in Contrast paints, Space Wolf Grey for the coat and hat, Skeleton Horde for the chest and back plate, Blood Angels Red for the armour plates. Both Field guns are simply painted with Vallejo Gunmetal as a base, Vallejo Copper for the copper parts, all washed with AP Strong Tone and then highlights with Vallejo Silver.
What to do whilst in Isolation (Part Two)
So I have been getting on with things whilst sitting in the house and the boys have wanted to paint with me. So I finished off 4 Man-o-War Shocktroopers in Red to join the one I had painted years ago – it tells how much I’ve changed my painting style. The new Man-o-War were primed in AP Pure Red, Washed with a 3:1 mix of AP Red Tone: Purple Tone. The highlights on the red are made from Pure Red, 1:1 Pure Read:Khador Red Highlight and then Khador Red Highlight. The Black areas are Vallejo Black and highlighted with P3 Ironhull Grey.
The Iron Fang Uhlans are in Black Dragon colours, these had been mostly painted when I got them, but I did some highlight work on the Red cloaks (same system as above) and a little on the black armour. I have one more to paint and assembly for this unit.
Nearly there
Well I painted more figures, but in the rush to get them in the bag and over to the chaps who are taking them to the show (I can’t get there until lunchtime) I forgot to paint them.
For a list we have:
5 Man-o-War Bombardies
1 Kommandant Sorscha (Man-o-War)
1 Iron Fang Uhlan (to complete the unit I painted earlier)
1 War Dog
1 Commander Oleg Strakhov
1 Aleksandra Zerkov
2 Battle Mechaniks
Last night we did put the terrain out along with some of the figures so I did take some pictures of figures on it.
One issue we found was that we didn’t have enough boards to create Venice so I need to spray my TT Combat terrain tiles grey.
