About the Project

In this project I will paint an Empire of Sonnstahl army for 9th Age. It should also be usable for historical wargaming in the Renaissance era.

Militia

The War of the Roses infantry from Perry Miniatures were the basis for these miniatures. I added parts from landsknechts from Warlord Games and the Conquistadors from Wargames Atlantic.

In 9th Age the “State Militia” carries a bow, a pistol and two clos combat weapons. I’ve tried to recreate this by letting them wear combinations of different weapons.

For the pistols I followed this tutorial from Selrahc Games.

I painted them in darker colours to clearly distinguish the militia from the colourful landsknechts who form the bulk of the army.

Imperial giant

This giant is from MOM Miniatures.

It’s the first giant I have ever painted. Really love this model.

Sword and buckler men finished

There done. The first elite unit of this army is combat ready. Most miniatures are from the conquistador set from Wargames Atlantic, a few are metal miniatures from Warlord Games.

Gerry did a review of the WA miniatures a few days ago.

More sword and bucklermen

These miniatures are from Wargames Atlantic new set of conquistador miniatures.

I made use of zenithal priming for the first time in this project, followed by a coat of speedpaint. I like the result. Probably I will use zenithal priming more often in the future.
