About the Project
I have found in the last few months that I batch paint a lot and haven't really spent any time doing characters so I want to reignite my passion for painting as well as trying out some new techniques by painting any and all Characters from 30K That I can find.

Sigismund, High Marshal of the Black Templars
I want to paint up Sigismund but I’m a bit over yellow at the moment so I decided to go for the Black Templar version of him post-Heresy.
I filmed this one for something else so not a lot of pictures but I'll upload the video once it's finished. The mini is a 3D Print with a 3D Black Templars SHoulderpad. 
Based in the same way I've based all my other 30K/40K stuff.
Loken at Istvaan
The Second of Four Garviel Loken minis this one representing him at Istvaan III. The mini is a 3D File easily found on Cults.
I basecoated the mini with a 75/25 mix of Caledor Sky and Warboss Green. Then I washed it with Vallejo Black Wash. Finished it off with a drybrush of 75/25 Moot Green and Lothern Blue or near enough.
I didn't take a lot of WIP pics of this one, I got way too into it and was having too much fun
I decided to break the cloak off and make it a bit more damaged/smaller.
I saw an image of the Loken Mini with glossy shoulderpads and I really liked it, I had a go at the freehand eye of Horus, not great but it will work for my own personal collection.
I also tried a bit of sponge/drybrush weathering on the lower legs to simulate fighting in the ash blackened waste of Istvaan III after the entire planet was set on fire. 
I spent a bit more time on the Crest than last time and I swapped the arms. I've always disliked the "Left hand holding sword right hand pistol". I know Marines are ambidexterous and all the reasons for it but to me the sword in the dominant hand and the pistol as an extra in the off hand looks better visually to me.
Death Guard
Another 3D Print this time of "Pretty Fly for a Plague Guy"
30K Death Guard are tricky, it's got to be dirty but it's also got to be the right colour.
Skeleton Bone with a heavy wash of Strong Tone
Drybrush Skeleton Bone and wash with soft tone around the joints and rivets 
Block out main colours
The GW Oxide Paint is cool but I found it tricky, if I ever do another Death Guard I'll buy some of the new technical paints
I had the rust the way I wanted it but I went too far, less red and more metal I think would be better
More or less in it's finished state, this one was fun but I think if I picked up some specialised paints for rust it would be a lot better. Next post will be a showcase of this mini.
Garviel Loken WIP
This mini gave me the idea to print and paint some proper character models, I find myself really liking a lot of stuff but not painting it because I won't collect a force around it. Loken was an obvious choice to start since he's our first look at 30K. I've painted him here in Lunar Wolves Colours. I plan to paint another three, one for Istvaan III in Sons of Horus Colours and another two in Knights Errant Colours for the Siege of Terra pre and post "Saturnine Gambit".
The image the mini is based on
Lunar Wolves are described as wearing Off White Armour and a lot of the Art I found had very bright colours so I decided to tone it down a bit.
As you can see there were a few holes and a backpack vent got messed up but that just became Battle Damage
I'm thinking this could potentially be a transitional Loken from Lunar Wolf to Son of Horus so the dead Marine will be a Sons of Horus
Black Spray Undercoat followed by a drybrush of Skeleton Bone. Wash it with Army Painter Soft Tone, then Drybrush (Overbrush really) with 75/25 Skeleton Bone to White, then another very light brush with 50/50 Skeleton Bone and White
I stopped taking pictures but the damage was painted Black along with the trim, the Trim then got a light drybrush with dark grey. The Studs and recesses got a light wash of Dark Tone to bring out the shadows. Shoulder pad was a freehand. Very bright silver in the bullet holes followed by watered down black wash. The backpack vent got the black and silver treatment followed by a wash of Nihilakh Oxide and a Black wash. The Son of Horus was a home mix of Dark Green and Blue followed by a drybrush of lighter Blue and Green after a Dark Tone wash.
