About the Project

I am petty well known as a historical gamer and painter, come on Guys Barons' War and Gangs of Rome, hey Lloyd build Rome for Gerry, hashtag Besthouse, but I have always had a soft spot for fantasy, as this was for me where my wargaming journey with Warhammer Fantasy Battle. So after going to the Old World Launch event early this year, seeing all the lovely painted figures on display, etc, I thought, hmm, this is really not for me. However, I am not a Middle Earth style of fantasy fan, I like my fantasy to be swords and sandals and/or high, and Age of Sigmar to me had that feel. I love the models, I think they are some of the best that GW do and when 4th ed of AoS came out and saw the Spearhead style of game I was sold. So what the heck is this project about, getting a golden button as its GW? No, is it about me just wanting more hits on my YouTube channel when I do the videos? No again. This project is about my journey into fantasy, mainly Age of Sigmar Spearhead and painting some factions that I aim to play with and a bit of a nostalgia trip too for me. I hope that you entertain my on mine rather selfish trip and indulge my experiences along the way.

The Daughters of Khaine, Heartflayer Troupe The Daughters of Khaine, Heartflayer Troupe

This is my fifth Spearhead I have painted for AoS Spearhead and its the Daughters of Khaine. I love the bad story on these guys and I really love the figures too, dark elves, medusas, whats not to love. I had so much fun painting these, not so more fun playing them, I really need to improve.

These are the Witch Aelves units and the mean stay of the force. I have mixed it up a tab and included some Sisters of Slaughter to the units to add some interest as there are lovely figures.

Witch Aelves are Devoted followers of Khaine, Witch Aelves spend their entire lives dedicated to serving their bloodthirsty deity. Weapons practice and mock duels take up the majority of their daily lives, yet these are not mere military drills, but religious services with all the gravitas other cults might use when offering prayers to their god. For Witch Aelves, ritual combat hones martial prowess and sates a craving for violence. On the battlefield, dancing like pale shadows, they weave a scarlet path through the orgy of destruction, revelling in the spray of jetting arteries.

The Sister of Slaughter are merciless masters of the lash, the Sisters of Slaughter leap into the fray and do not cease until all their foes lie dead. Sometimes even that is not enough to stop these vicious killers, for to them mutilation and bloodshed are acts of purest devotion to their cruel deity. To them, combat is everything – melee is worship, and each drop of blood spilled is an offering to Khaine. They fight in an exaggerated style, spinning, leaping and posing dramatically as they use their whips and blades to trace ancient runes in enemy flesh. Those who would join the Sisterhood permanently graft leering masks of living metal – the survivors of this, and the ceremonial duels that follow, become gladiatrixes insanely dedicated to fighting in the name of Khaine.

These are the good guys?

SERAPHON, STARSCALE WARHOSTSERAPHON, STARSCALE WARHOST

Cold—blooded and enigmatic, the Seraphon are a merciless race. These reptilian warriors are utterly committed to their masters’ Great Plan, and any who interfere — intentionally or otherwise ~ with that cosmic design are marked for obliteration. Often, it is a Starscale Warhost that will be dispatched to ensure the Plan’s continuation. Whether tracking down a target marked for death by the esoteric slann or defending the enchanted jungles in which the Seraphon dwell, these forces are more than a match for their warm—blooded adversaries.

Cohorts of Saurus Warriors are the heart of each Starscale Warhost. As savage on the attack as they are formidable on the defence, they can excel even when outnumbered. At their side lumber the Kroxigor; though these towering brutes are primarily labourers, their immense strength makes them well suited for battle, making red ruin of more stubborn adversaries. The greatest weapon of a Starscale Warhost, however, is its saurus overlord and the monstrous Carnosaur upon which they ride. Coaxed from the deepest jungles, Carnosaurs are living engines of destruction, capable of swallowing warriors whole. Guided by the strategic instincts of the Oldbloods, a Starscale Warhost is a brutal weapon in service of the Great Plan.

This Spearhead army consists of the following units:

Saurus OldbloodSaurus Oldblood

Saurus Oldbloods are veterans of centuries of bloodshed, and only the mightiest among them can tame a carnosaur to ride into battle. A carnosaur’s roar can send even the bravest warrior fleeing, for the fury of these predatory monsters is legendary – when paired with the will and focus of an Oldblood, the result is an overwhelming terror for enemies and a relentless commander for allies.

KroxigorsKroxigors

Kroxigor are monstrously strong reptilian brutes, taller and bulkier than even the most hulking saurus. Created as simple labourers for raising Seraphon temples, when battle calls the Kroxigor take up heavy mauls and wade into battle alongside massed skink cohorts, crushing any who would threaten their diminutive cousins.

This is my fourth Spearhaed for Age of Sigmar, the Seraphon Starscale Warhost. Cold—blooded and enigmatic, the Seraphon are a merciless race. These reptilian warriors are utterly committed to their masters’ Great Plan, and any who interfere — intentionally or otherwise ~ with that cosmic design
are marked for obliteration. Often, it is a Starscale Warhost that will be dispatched to ensure the Plan’s continuation. I have a love for the Seraphons as I had a Lizardmen army for WFB and I have tried to follow the same painting rules for these as them, still have the one Lizardmen Codexes after 20 years.

The first unit, or rather the first two units completed are the Saurus Warriors. Saurus Warriors are the brutal heart of the Seraphon armies. Bred solely for war, these reptilian cohorts advance across the battlefield in disciplined lockstep, unleashing their cold-blooded savagery only when battle is joined. Once the command is given, the ranks of the Saurus Warriors become a fearsome thresher of celestite weaponry, savage jaws, and single-minded focus.

The Swampskulka GangThe Swampskulka Gang

As far as Kruleboyz are concerned, fighting fair is an idiotic concept. Swampskulka Gangs exemplify the cruelly underhanded approach to warfare so beloved of these orruks, for their entire purpose is to leave the enemy agonised, hobbled and helpless. Under the wily guidance of a Killaboss, they stalk their victims through the wilds of the realms for days, waiting for the perfect moment to launch a murderous ambush.

The first the Kruleboyz’ chosen quarry knows of their fate is when dozens of barbed missiles come whistling out of the murk to sink into their flesh, as chortling Boltboyz relish their victims’ shocked horror. Anything that looks big enough to cause the orruks serious bother is dealt with by an oversized harpoon hurled by a Beast—skewer Kiilbow. As the enemy reels in the face of this deadly hail, the Killaboss charges into their midst atop his Great Gnashtoof mount, seeking gory trophies to prove his kunnin’. Following closely behind come lanky orruk warriors, led by a Murknob brandishing a foul-smelling and loudly bellowing Belcha—banna. These Gutrippaz stomp forwards to fall upon the stricken foe, spilling intestines and poking out eyes with their venom-dripping weapons — while keeping a few prisoners alive to torment at their leisure, of course.

This Spearhead army consists of the following units:
GENERAL
Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof
UNITS
1 Murknob with Belcha—banna
3 Man-skewer Boltboyz
5 Gutrippaz

Killaboss on Great GnashtoofKillaboss on Great Gnashtoof

To finish off the Spearhead for the Kruleboyz is their leader, Da Boss, the Killaboss on his Great Gnashtoof. Again I have used contrasts, washed and some actual paint on this and I am rather chuffed with the way it has turned out.

Killaboss are cunning warlord, well used to using their “thinkin’ muscles” to guide their fellow orrucks in ambushes and traps. With a string of victories under their belts, they have won something akin to trust from their minions, who stick to the plan even when things get nasty.

They take great pride in procuring the vilest and must malicious monsters to serve as their war-mounts, and few are as deadly as the Great Gnashtoof. This wiry canine killer is as swift as it is foul-tempered, capable of navigating the slimy homelands of the Kruleboyz with ease.

When it finds its prey, it leaps upon them with an ear-splitting howl that seems to come from two directions at once.
