About the Project
Taking a break from Moonstone painting for a little while and decided to paint my Chaos Dwarf team for Blood Bowl. I have since decided to just make it a full blood bowl project as I have a few other models that need painting. Hopefully this project will help encourage me to get up to date.

They now have a troll!
The troll has now been completed and so therefore has the team. I am not bothering with the tokens and marked but I think a free fully painted team is more than enough.
I do need to put a few coats of varnish on the models but I am still calling them complete.
The troll
I think the painting is a good C+ but the question is why did I prime them blank and then paint them white? I am putting it down to sleep deprivation and/or stupidity.
So the full team together.
Goblins (still counts as Orktober doesn’t it).
So the goblins have all been complete, so just the troll to go.
Goblins 7, 8, & 9
Goblins 10, 11, & 12
A group who of the goblins
And the team sans troll
From my test models I did change the shade on the material to Agrax rather than seraphim sepia but think that they turned out alright.
I do need to a few layers of varnish so they will be alright at the store but I think it is a good job for a team I am giving away for free.
Orcs, orcs, orcs
The black orcs themselves are finished mostly using the recipe from the test piece. If I was keeping the models, I think I would redo the skin but I have already spent more time on them than wanted to.
Orcs 1 & 2, This was the test piece and it’s duplicate body sculpt
Orcs 3 & 4
Orcs 5 & 6
The team so far
The remaining goblins which I hope to complete in the next day or so
After that I still have the troll to complete and to add a few layers of varnish.
I also need to add some numbers to the bases and this project will be complete. How long can all that take?
Finished models
I have finished off the Black Orc and Goblin test minis.
For the teeth, bones, and tusks I base painted Dryad Bark and then highlighted with Zandri dust.
For the metal I used Two thin coats Plate armour for the base coat and washed with ahead and then highlighted with Zandri dusk.
The leather work was Mournfang brown washed with Agrax, highlighted with mournfang again and then Skrag brown.
All of these could do with another highlight but the results are good enough for what I need.
The next step is to paint all of these remaining Black orcs first, then the Goblins, and finally the troll.
After I took this picture I then painted the iconography a thinned down Kantor Blue
Black Orc skin
First the test for the black orc skin. Again I don’t want anything too complex, so decided on just two colours, Incubi darkness and skarsnik green.
i layered a couple layers of incubi darkness, then mixed about 60% incubi with the skarsnik, and then painted it over leaving the darker tone in the recesses. Normally I would have done this a few more times with more skarsnik added to the mix but decided for brevity to just do a highlight of pure skarsnik.
Which turned out good enough but was more starker than intended so I added a very thinned down wash of skarsnik to make it blend more.
My photos are not getting any better but I am happy with the result of the paint job.
I will, when painting the other orcs, make sure the flesh is painted first.
The team kit test pieces
Although I want them to be white kits, I do want some differentiation between the metal and fabric parts.
To base coat, I used the following paints:
Metal: Celestra Grey followed by a Nuln Oil wash
Fabric: Rakarth flesh followed by Seraphim Sepia
Then it was time for highlighting.
Fabric was a layer of Rakarth flesh, then a layer of a mix of Rakarth and pallid witch flesh, followed by a highlight of pallid witch flesh.
The metal was a layer of a Celestra gray and Ullathon grey mix, followed by an Ullathon grey highlight.
I am thinking both may need a final white highlight but I will review that when the miniatures have other colours on them.
I am not sure why I didn’t paint the goblin in the troll’s hand but I will get to it eventually.
The next thing up will be the Skin colouration. My plank is to try three different types based on the race type in the team.
All will be green but different tones. The black orcs themselves will be the darkest, the goblins in the middle, and the troll will be the lightest and may even veer into a yellowish colour.
Black Orc team
So despite not buying any more miniatures for the time being I won a black orc team for finishing second in my local league.
However as I already have the team, I decided that I would paint it up and give it to the shop for others to use if we gay any new members.
My plan for painting is to not spend too much time and also not stress too much, as it only needs to be alright not perfect.
Here is the team primed ready for painting.
I left the right arm off of the troll as I know from previous experience that it is not fun to paint with it on.
For the paint scheme my plan is to go for a white(ish) uniform and then play with the skintones. As this is going to be able to be used by anyone, I thought that listing all of the methods would be helpful if they need touching up in future.
Also, priming black and then going for a white team kit – I guess I have never claimed to have any forward planning.
Blood bowl complete(ish)
With the most recently released Blood Bowl star players now completed I have mostly finished the GW official range.
So until more models are released I can move on to different projects, so good times.
