Having done the Base Red and Blue Team, time to do 2nd teams for Red and Blue, in this case Green and Grey respectively.

The variation was more marked in this case so:

With Grey team, It was GW  Apothocary Grey and Baslicum Black , with these two I did the base armour color 1st before doing the back suit as thought it would be easier with the 1st and would be a stage not needed with the later.

The two others were done in GW Gyph Charger Grey and  NightHaunt Gloom .

PGreen team had the Advantage of my experiments with Lizardmen from my Black Suns project, so the Armour was done in Speed Paints Forest Sprite  and G.W. s contrasts  Mantis Warriot Green and Militarum Green, and a thinned out Gutrippa Flesh.

I decided to start at the beginning,  with the Initial buy , the original HALO Flashpoint Sparton Edition Figures.

Why did I go for that edition,

Well I did want the Elites and extra Sparton teams, but what I didn’t realise ( Kevin spotted when he got his copy) a proper card board and more terrain peices ) for £30 more.

It also solved a bit of a problem which I had been mulling over.

Did I go for painting them:

Gerrys way with each team having different coloured armour .

Or Ben’s way of sticking g to Red and Blue Teams.

As I had multiple teams in box ( and later released teams) I went for Ben’s idea of single colour teams. Having multiple team meant I could vary each one , with initially Red, Blue, Grey and Green Teams . Team members would change with force building so mixing up the colours I  game teams would come naturally.  Also by colour theming each team it would ease in painting .

My main variation on Ben’s plan was that I would  use different shade of the main themed colour, using various shades of the Available,  Contrast and Speed Paint ranges  hoping this would vary the teams a bit.

It didn’t on practice vary them that much as will be shown.

Process for painting was fairly simple. Base White undercoat, currently using  Colour Forge as you get more for your buck ,and it gives a nice e en coat.

1st the base suit that is under armour was done in GW Basilicum Grey  which is genrally my go to for Black these days as its one of the Best Contrast Paints, it shades really well, and worked really well on these figures .

Then it was to use variousshade of Contrast and Speed Paints I  my collection. I wont mention which as they ended being a bit sammee , but all came out similar to GW Tallasar Blue!

Once that had dried, ( due to large areas found both Contrast and Speedpaints took a bit to dry)

I then did odd packs and wpn sheaths in Speed Paints . For this I used Speedpaints Forest Sprite, as it does a nice Olive Green Shade.

The Base Sparto teams are armed with Human Wpns so I went again for Basilicum Grey on the stocks and non metal parts , with Enchanted Steel on the metal parts later given a GW Nuln Oil Wash.

The Face Visor was painted using the Visor Gold from Speedpaints HALO range, thes paints are a nice one coat colour. Later I put a thin layer of Graz Eartshde on Visor into pick out detail

I then on a whim very lightly dry brushed them white, to pick out highlights as the figures looked a it flat, which seemed to work well.

The Red Team was done pretty much I  the Same way, except I used various shades of Red.

Again the difference in shade is hard to tell in some cases , in fact GW’s Gryph Hound Orange ( Scarlet) gave the best variation.

The bases were given a base shade of Army Painters Uniform Grey, then given a thin coat Of GW Contrast Gryp Chager Grey with a bit of Speedpaints Forest Sprite wet blended in for the oil spill look.

The surround of base ten done in a base red or Blue, whi h will help identify units when figures are mixed from othe colour themed teams.

And So it begins! (Again)

This is a project which has  been sitting in its box for the best part of 12 months, pretty much waiting for me to retire. It’s been added to with new releases including ‘Rise of the Banished’ and is awaiting the new ODST release.

It is my change of pace project, in that it’s something I can do when I need a break from my currant main Project  which is Currently the Black Suns Vietnam project.

Unlike that it doesn’t need much thought, the models are all built, all I need to do is paint them. And as most of figures don’t have Faces to paint , just a lot of block painting with Contrast and Speed Paints.
