I lost track of how many coats but I think this is around 4 or 5. I lost track of how many coats but I think this is around 4 or 5.

If I were to do this again, I might’ve primed white on the front of the building and gray on the sides and back. Still, I rather like the slightly transparent look as I was going for a paint job you’d see on a boom town building, gaudy and hurriedly applied.

I decided to repaint the rear storerooms in more of a buff color. I decided to repaint the rear storerooms in more of a buff color.
I masked off the front doors and used masking tape to hold the sign frame in place. Everything in the frame will be painted black. The horizontal piece of tape marks the edge of the frame. There’s a pair of small store rooms at the back of the saloon and I wanted to paint them differently so I test fit the walls in place and masked off the area to be painted.

Here’s what the storerooms look like when partially assembled. Here’s what the storerooms look like when partially assembled.
Here are the storeroom walls after the masking tape was removed. The walls are painted a mix of yellow, white and Burt umber all mixed together. I may try a different color and repaint them. Buildings in the Old West frequently only had the front of the building painted with the sides and rear often left as raw wood.  I’ll be replicating that here. As such I’ll glue the window frames into place on the majority of the windows before painting them.

Here are all the window frames punched out. Here are all the window frames punched out.
