For this years’ terrain fest I’ve decided to make a piece of castle terrain. I have a set of resin ruins that work well for the likes of bolt action, but the full set probably weighs about 10 kg, so not that practical for travel.

A quick search on google revealed Loudoun castle (photo above) which is now a Scottish ruin, but this photo dates back to before it’s decline.

The stonework was painted apothecary white, the grass ork flesh and the earth guilliman flesh. The gates were painted basilicanum grey and the flags talassar blue. The rim was painted abaddon black.

The truth is I haven’t played a wargame since Covid. As much as I like a good piece of terrain, they take up a lot of space if they’re just going to sit on a shelf as a display piece. This castle is one of the models that comes with the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 board game.

As a terrain piece it works fine for a 1 mm to 2 mm scaled game.

Loudoun castle seems to be a very close fit to the architecture with the round and square towers.
