About the Project

After spending a lot of time mucking about with KOW Champions last year I have decided to go all in and give 4th edition a go. Now, the dilemma is I have no idea which army to choose. Ideally I’d like to start with Dwarves as I sold a sizeable WH Fantasy one a long time ago and i always regretted it. Equally though i keep toying with the idea of going outside my comfort zone and potentially going Elf, Undead or even as mad as Abyssal Dwarves! This is probably due to how much I enjoyed painting the varied forces in Champions! So with no decision made and our annual geek weekend coming up in 2 months and an opponent already nearing completion I received an intriguing email from Mantic regarding ‘mystery battalions’. Basically a mystery 1000 point force for a low low price. After looking at the possible forces I decided f**k it I’m in and let’s let fate decide the army. Apparently they are planning to ship around the 2nd week of March which would leave me about a month to get the painted a ready for Geekend 26!

Thinking about how to base these guys I was going to just glue and flock the to hide the round circles on the feet of the models but really didn’t like the idea so in a moment of madness I decided to clip the bases off and go for a flag stone effectThinking about how to base these guys I was going to just glue and flock the to hide the round circles on the feet of the models but really didn’t like the idea so in a moment of madness I decided to clip the bases off and go for a flag stone effect

My potential minions….

So, I will receive one of the  eight potential armies from the offer are.

Tier 1 ( ideal candidates! Would be more than happy with any one of these)

  • Dwarves
  • Abysall Dwarves
  • Undead

Tier 2 (Still happy but a little outside my comfort zone)

  • Dry Undead
  • Orcs
  • Nightstalkers

Tier 3 (The universe hates me and wants to ruin my life) These would present a proper challenge as historically goblins and Rats have never really been on my radar!

  • Goblins
  • Ratkin
The countdown is on!!!The countdown is on!!!

So the day had finally arrived, were the gods kindly or did the universe hate me!! With some trepidation I cracked the box and it was….

DWARVES!!!!!!

All is fine with the universe! As I mentioned these were my no1 choice so very happy the gamble paid off!

So the mission is now to get a 1K army painted and ready in time for our annual Geeekend trip in May. That gives me 8 weeks to paint and base them all. Thankfully the army is pretty specialised consisting of a core of 2 regiments of Ironclad and 1 regiment of Ironwatch. There are two heroes, a troop of Earth Elementals and to my absolute delight, a Steel Behemoth!

66 models in 56 days….
