Castle Panic seems a saner design direction.
Iron sky’s seems to be too much things together to work.
Castle Panic for me, not sure the other one would turn out as cool as it probably seems in Warren’s head.
Dinosaurs and grav StuGs … freakin’ epic. But you’ll still lose because … ‘Merichuh! 😀
I’ve got one of those castles, your Fleshy Awesomeness. Kinda wish I’d bought two now…
I would suggest having a strong theme which is easily recognisable and understood by the casual passer-by who knows not of the Beast and hasn’t been following it beforehand. The Iron Sky mash-up sounds like too much of a hodge podge for that.
As much as a Castle Panic game would look good, I think a BoW Iron Sky game would be great to see. The movie was just mental from start to finish, so it can’t fail to impress with @warzans mad mind behind the table top game.
I’m for the Castle Panic idea for Salute, as it’s clear and thematic.Though I think Warren’s vision has Boot Camp Gone Wild written all over it! You could provide that framework for a Boot Camp and have it be a build on narrative experience as your attendees are responsible for adding their own new element to it. If you’re talking a time portal of some kind, ANYTHING could come through there! 🙂
Oh man! I like both, but I think I will have to go with Castle Panic! Bring on the monster madness! 😀
I vote for Castle Panic as long as when the players are going at it from each side and once they meet up in the middle and High Five. The winners could get little trophies of the Eiffel Tower.
Hehe, that’s just wrong. 🙂
Castle Panic!
Why not leave the choice to the game designers?
Oh Fleshy one (was I meant to say awesomeness somewhere in that line?)
Castle panic IMHO would be better for Salute, as Lloyd said ‘here is a monster go smash the castle’ quite simple really. Warren I think the other game should be played in a quite corner somewhere out of the way, it sounds mad lol.
Do Castle Panic, but with table in a cross shape (+) so there are four avenues of attack and defense, but people can still access what they need to from the sides.
Castle Panic!
Sorry @warzan Lloyd is right about Gotham not being New York. Both cities exist in the DC Universe!
Gotham is New York with a nod and a wink.
@blackspiral, I like to think Gotham is some what modelled on NYC but not actually NYC.
But it looks like it can be both have a look at this page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_locations_of_the_DC_Universe#Actual_cities_that_also_exist_on_the_DCU_Earth
There’s a line under the heading “Actual cities that also exist on the DCU Earth” that reads:
“New York, home base to many heroes over the years, including the current incarnation of the Teen Titans. However, in some versions, Metropolis or Gotham City are the DCU version of New York rather than a separate city.”
But like I said I’d like to think Metropolis, Gotham City and NYC all coexist.
Gotham is an old nickname for New York (given it by the guy who wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow). Bill Finger, the original writer on and co-creator of Batman, decided to use Gotham in place of Manhattan, where the Batman stories were meant to be set, and Gotham was always intended to be understood as New York.
Metropolis was originally a stand-in for Cleveland, but as Superman wound up being published by a New York publisher it was switched to an analogue of New York.
@warzan Amazon.co.uk is your friend!

PANIC……!
Castle Panic… Please!
It has to Castle Panic!
New York vs Dinosaurs vs space nazis vs the Hoff vs the 80s US national guard! Oh the great fleshy awsomeness of it all!
As epic as Iron sky would be, everyone would want to be Batman.
I’m for Iron Sky, but you should try to include as many movie references as possible. That way, you can have sheets where people spot the movies, the ones that get them all go into a prize draw.
Also, I’ve never played castle panic 🙁
Here’s a video link of gameplay of Castle Panic.

Nice castle Lloyd!
It had to be bought.
I think that Castle Panic mashup would be a great as a partition game. Drop in; get a monster, attack, get killed, drop out.
I would go with the castle game but If batman went back in time to the 80s I’m sure Doc and Marty from back to the future would of had something to do with it, just an idea?
Castle panic with dinostugs
Castle panic…….much simpler gaming process for salute……KISS keep it simple st@@id.
Much more recognisable ip too and you could give it a steam punk twist to fit with this years theme.may I suggest a steam powered monster like wolsungs new robot and or air ships or steam tanks to attack the walls.
forget ebay

castle panic……lives
The Iron Skies one sounds more fun and visually impressive. However, having seen how excited @warzan was getting I think perhaps it would end in disaster and there would be too much going on. Iron Skies with Nazis from the Moon vs 80’s Americans would be cool. It might be a bit silly/crowded with the dinosaurs as well
castle panic.
Could you not combine them and have space Nazi castle been attacked by the Hoff on a dinosaur?
As much as I would love to watch Warren “getting it from both ends” from dozens, if not hundreds of participants, I will have to vote for the hover StuGs.
Plan A is not crazy enough. It should be like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIGqfnKgf80
But admittedly I think Castle Panic is more suitable for an event like Salute. Like you said, people should be able to drop in without any effort figuring out what all the stug (typo, but I’ll leave it 🙂 ) is about.
Castle castle castle
I’m not sure if you should worry about Salute… or The Weekender XLBS. The world will end on sunday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYndBvhz8hU
Didn’t you guys mention a side scrolling Prince of Persia homage a while ago, what happened to that?
@sniperbait we talk about it in the video 🙂
Ooo that a hard one I think the iron sky just pips it for me but the castle one will be great as well.
I love Castle Panic and I have one of those castles. Whilst Iron Skies sounds cool you’ve got to do Castle Panic!
@warzan I think the Iron sky loses its way with the dinosaurs being in, that sounds like a different game idea, and your idea sounds too much Iron Sky crossed with Dragon Wars, maybe best go one or the other not both.
So I think go with the castle idea, plus you’ll have more reusable terrain for other projects.
Castle Panic seems to be easier to pull off. Reaper Miniatures used to run a game at GenCon called Dragon’s Night Out. The players would control dragons and try to cause as much havoc as possible. While the DMs would control the towers, archers, knights, and peasants. Really fun and simple mechanics I think they used their R.A.G.E system from their Warlord game.
Boys watch the you tube of unbox therapy (yes I am the sort of bloke who watches them).
Come on 4 Ground get on board.
Castle panic and you have all the terrain for it anyway, so it seems easier and simplistic. Personally though, with all those castle walls id want to do Attack on Titan.
Hmm the question is a poser…. At first thought I would think that Castle Panic would be the way forward. It seems to be easier a concept to grasp for the random walk-in. However, I wonder if there is enough room for a designer to make it more than a Helm’s Deep reference.
For Iron Skies, I do like the suggestion from TheTerrainTutor about the game in the game where you can look for various film/comic/geeky nods with possible prizes at the end. Gives those not currently playing something to do.

Nazis, UFOs, dinosaurs, Batman, Apaches, Abrahams, and the Hoff, how can you beat that?
As they say “Go big or go home”
Our more importantly as Warren says “Fortune favors the bold”
Castle panic is cute, and safer good plan C
Oh yeah, I’ve now watched the video and feel a bit silly. Oops. (Remember, watch first, post second)
Everyone loves a castle on the table, throw in the mix big monsters and what’s not to enjoy. Castle Panic vote from me.
Castle panic all the way!
For me, I feel like the iron sky idea surpassed pulp and went straight to primordial ooze
@warzan you have some zany ideas sometimes – madness with a dash of brilliance – or is that the other way round? I kinda like the idea of the crazy Iron Skies game but in all honesty the Castle Panic game would be easier to run, easier to jump in and out of, swap players, and just be a fun for anyone of all ages and interests to participate in. Plus you totally got to put those castles to good use! 🙂
@warzan, you are awesomeness in a fleshy body…
…but I prefer the castle anyways 😉
PLUS: more of them are available at Debenhams for 14£. I wonder for how long. Delivery to continental Europe is also fair (5£).

Warren, you’re as mad as a box of frogs, mate .. never change!
#LoveYaMan
The castle thing can be very interesting! A “tower defense” approach would be fun! With some players controlling the beasties and some other managing the resources to repair the walls, towers and to buy new weapons! 🙂
All these references to Denehams, maybe worth checking out their shares.
Between the two, I’d go Castle Panic but I’ve thought of an option “C”, given that it’s a Steampunk theme at Salute this year. It’s called “Warren’s Last Night”.
1897 – Liverpool Docklands. the Irish brothers Warren and Lloyd have been celebrating Warren’s last night of freedom, before jumping on a boat heading for Derry. Along with them, their fellow navvies have been hitting the town and painting it red, black and blue. As leaders of competing navvy gangs there’s always been friendly competition. However Lord Justin Painsworth, who the brothers have been working for is upset at the trouble being caused (and the fact the gangs have stopped work on his new line) and sent in his private security company to ‘ease’ the situation.
Now all the brothers need to do is get to the boat in their drunken state. Oh, Liverpool’s finest aren’t happy either.
Given that you already have the Wolsung buildings, the jetties from the Lakeside table, two ships (one suitably steampunk’d) and a partial table with a dry dock it’s halfway there. It also givens Justin the excuse to cosplay and Lloyd and Warren to wear those steampunk hats they were sent as a bit more flavour.
I agree with @niktyrrell in every respect! 😎
Although to be perfectly blunt neither really floats my boat..
I will try to give it a go this year in any case (last year I was to preoccupied with spending all my hard earned..) and hopefully we will see The Hoff involved regardless the game you’ll display!!
You need Thor in there. 😉
The iron sky game sounds awesome but more suited to a weekend event. For a pick up and play game it has to be castle panic.
thats too much for me Warren, and why that game has no steam punk ? its steam punk salute.
I like caste game so much more it is actually sound so much interesting! what company was it Warren I can get that for you and postage would be 18 pounds 😀 DPD
I would go with Castle panic this time, and go with Iron sky’s for next year. In this way you have longer to work on Iron skies and can fine tune it.
