Time for a look at the back bone of your beautiful looking new Dark Angels Army.
As usual an excellent video chaps. Much obliged. I think you’re being a bit harsh in the vanilla marines bit – they are, but you could field fluffy all terminator or all biker/attack bike landspeeder armies.
For me, it’s got to be Ravenwing. Beinga ble to split up bikers into units of 3 with a supporting landspeeder and heavy weapon all moving 12″ gives huge flexiblity.
I know it’s me being a tired old git, but keeping things the same and not having acres of special rules, or everyone armed with a power weapon and an assault ten large blast 72″ range twin linked melta makes me happy.
Great video guys!! I would say that I preferred the old setup with the cosy chairs and the bottles of bear tbh. It sort of makes the gaming videos seem more in tune with the gaming community (more relaxed), rather than a bit more formal (In my opinion anyway). Either way I’ll keep watching. 🙂 It is also easier to watch when Warren keeps touching up Darrel shoulder (as we can’t see Darrel’s hands behind all the terrain, but perhaps thats the point!!) is there a special kind of bromance going on there?
A quick question about the shooting through the tight slit: Would you really want to do this if you need to equip a searchlight to see another man smiling at you through the slit? If so, would you not prefer to set up first? as setting up second makes me shudder and activates my gag reflex. 😛 You response is required in order to allow me to sleep tonight.
Many thanks. /Stands at range to shake hands.
Mick
Btw, it may be me doing something wrong but I can never seem to view the video on your website. I have to go via youtube in order to view it. Any reason for this?
Twin-linked assault cannon – lascannon and lascannon with TL plasma gun are not cheaper. You said yourselves that the razorback costs 55pts (15 more than in other books) So, when a TL lascannon costs here 20pts it’s not cheaper because the 15 points are already included in the vahicle itself. The only option cheaper is the TL heavy flamer (which still is kinda nice – it’s easier to burn all those heretics, mutants and unclean ones)
Another good vid.
Agree with bubbles15 though think you’re being a bit hard on tac squads. Are they as good as a GK strike squad no, but they are 30- 50pts cheaper than one depending on the weapon options.
Agree wholeheartedly on the sniper scouts, arguably one of the Best Sm units around, especially considering how cheap even a 10 man unit actually is. 130pts with camo cloaks by my count Bargain
Quick Q , ‘You say depends what you put in it’ for how good is a drop pod?
What In the DA book would you put in it? Co Vet sq with combis all round for 275pts would be my choice. What’s your choice for DA drop podding?
Ok this is gunna sound sorta ranty and not sure it should be here but whatever. Do you guys think that the Dark Angels have lost alot of their uniqueness not due to them changing but because other codex’s have basically taken rules from them. For example all terminator armies used to be something that only dark angels could do, now spacewolves and greyknights can aswell. Like wise with the all bikes thing. I fully understand why gw would want to do that (so they can sell more stuff if i’m being too subtle) but i think it has hurt the dark angels alot, and leaves the all shades of vanilla opinion that is comming across in your vids atm.
Considering most armies can take Terminator heavy units that’s not such a big deal – Blood Angels can take all jump infantry and dreadnoughts, far more than any other army.
On the bikes – yes and no. Other armies can take bikes but none can split the attack bike off, nor include a landspeeder as well, again separately. Ravenwing squads can also split into 3 bikes giving huge tactical flexibility.
Personally I think the Flyers (especially the Nephilim fighter) is expensive for what it does and compared to a Vendetta it’s a bit, err…. but that’s just me. Don’t forget though that Ravenwing can take five landspeeders in a squadron – that’s a nasty set up of 10 heavy bolters, flamers, or typhoon missiles a turn – the uber mobile devastator squad.
I just need to say that you need to read the codex more closely, because the non-vet Sergeant can take extra wargear (quoted below caps for emphases):
-Space Marine Sergeant OR Veteran Sergeantm, may take items from the Melee Weapons AND/OR Ranged Weapons sections of the wargear list.
-Space Marine Sergeant OR Veteran Sergeantm, may take melta bombs……
-Scout Sergeant OR Veteran Sergeantm, may take items from the Melee Weapons AND/OR Ranged Weapons sections of the wargear list.
-Scout Sergeant OR Veteran Sergeantm, may take melta bombs……
Yes, actually, I do disagree with the whole tactical marine buisness:
1. You have to put these guys in perspective here: 13pts, 3+ AS, T4… That’s pretty damn good. In total these guys end up being 20 pts cheaper than your Vanilla marines, 10 if you want a vet sarge.
2. The ability to take a heavy weapon with 5 guys is HUGE! For 85 points, you have 5 dudes with a plasma cannon/ML. So, for 510 points (which ain’t much), you have 30 scoring marines with 6 Plasma Cannons! Whoop, whoop!
Good point well made!
14 points
Yeah when you disembark from a vehicle in 6th you do have to take difficult and dangerous tests as normal – page 79.
a lot of those spec and heavy weapons in the tac squad cost a bit more than in the standard marine dex…although the cheaper squad even with the vet sarge might counter this… spec if my understanding that only need 5 men to take those weapons is correct.
scouts seem cheaper though and agree sniper scouts are great! but those two units are basically just re-pointed codex marines which is just disappointing to be honest i was hoping greenwing allies would be a cool alternative to my codex marines… plus i really like the dark vengeance tac squad but dont want to take off the iconography on them to fit them in my normal marines!
Guys why are you knocking the massive 100% increase in troop choice
Still I think I prefered Scouts in last dex as an elite choice with the better BS
Put the salvo banner into a Land Raider with a dozer blade and the venerable option , put a tech marine with a force field generator inside as well and you are good to go.
The vehicle extends the range of the salvo banner and the 4+ invulnerable save.
The land raider itself will be very hard to take out.
If your opponent does not have any templates, all your Tactical Squads can huddle inside the force field as well.
One or two Scout Squads can infiltrate to extend the range of their bolters into the enemy deployment zone first turn.
Until there is an FAQ you can even use a crusader and try to make your opponent believe the Hurricane Bolters are affected by the banner.
The LR is also handy as a Line of Sight Blocker for other fragile options like the Ravenwing grenade launcher and so on.
Regarding the twin-linked heavy flamer for a Razorback; since there isn’t actually a model piece for this weapon, I’ve taken to using the BAAL flamestorm cannon as the weapon. As it was pointed out, the weapon is on the back off the Razorback, but this is an effective way to increase the range for the twin-linked heavy flamer. Nothing illegal about it providing it’s the said weapon in your army list and pointed out to your opponent. Every gamer has been okay with it, in my experience. It’s been hard to get them into such close a range, many times. However, I’ve now taken to using the lascannon/twin-linked plasma gun, which is better.
Why does Warren keep touching Darryl all the time now ??
One very simple reason… He Hates it! 😉
Therefore I cannot resist!
Please take your sound man outside in the cold and shoot him, twice.
Great video just really let down by the terrible sound quality.
When he’s back today he will get a kicking 😉
on 6:34, homeboy starts talking about how Chaos Space marines have flavor by fielding Slanesh armys, or Tzenche, Nurgal, Khorn, ETC. and says you can mix and match and that makes them exciting. Then says that this book Dark Angels dosn’t bring any of that. My question is has he even read the book? It has just as much flavor as the Chaos book. Example, You can have a full Terminator army. You can have a full Biker army. You can have a full Greenwing army. OR like he even said with the Chaos Space Marines, you can mix and match them. It seriouly feel’s like in these videos that you guys have NO idea about ANYTHING of Dark Angels. Or that your even familiar with our Old codex to even Compare it to this new one. It also feels like when your doing this review as though your going through it for the first time! You guys are supposed to be profesionals or at least give off the essence that you are, yet your getting standard rules wrong like in your HQ DA Review video (BTW, Fleshbane is wound models without AV on a 2+, not re-roll to wound. Standard UNIVERSAL SPECIAL RULE.
Great videos so far guys, really enjoying them!
Good to see Warren getting involved, I think the three of you work well together.
Darrell saids Andy uses a marine with two pistols over a powerfist
marine vs marine
3 A at 4+ to hit with 4+ to wound with no AP
vs
2 A at 4+ to hit with 2+ to wound with AP2
why is this better?
Excellent Video as usual Guys, looking forward to viewing the rest of them as soon as I can.
Isn’t that the bloke from Catchphrase sat in the middle?
