Infinity 3rd Edition Week – New Rules: Retreat!
October 14, 2014 by crew
Join the Fight & Order Infinity 3rd Edition! http://bit.ly/Pre-Order-Infinity-3rd-Edition
Run away to fight another day! Quite the popular tactic in many real life battles and certainly applicable to Infinity 3rd Edition.
Killian & Carlos get to grips with the noblest of tradition that is running away and retreating!

Like!!
No retreat, no surrender, fight proudly young Morat or die in shame!!
‘No Retreat, No Surrender’ – great movie that! 😉
Sounds great, BTW perfect picture of Carlos! Killian looks like running in fear crossed his mind for just a second 🙂 …I am loving this week so far and even more excited that I got my shipping notification for Operation IceStorm today. I feel like a little kid lol
This game seems so incredibly well thought out, I can’t wait until my preorder of the 3rd ed rules gets here 🙂
Be scared aaaaarrgghh!! Lol
Great Stuff.
I’ve just put my Nomads from the starter together, Send me more. 🙂
Retreat rules – solid looking.
Morats are going to be awesome in N3!
oh good !
Awsome changes!
sounds like my japanese will take advantage of 3rd edition
…MORAT just got heaviy BADASS!!!!!….
Yes, now we can mow down the repugnant and cowardly little human flesh bags even more efficiently! MAF is life and life is MAF!!!
Sounds a bit complicated, need more tables :9
Actually it sound fun that there are so many states
3rd edition is sounding better and better.
Looks interesting, things are starting to look a bit more streamlined already and its only Tuesday morning. Can’t wait for the rest of the week
Can’t wait to see these rules in context with the whole book. It all looks great and Carlos is such a cool guy (that pose at the start was killer)
Damnit, the only Veteran Kazak in my current list IS my Lieutenant lol
I really like the sound of these retreat rules!
I’m a winner
Makes perfect sense but It also sounds a little bit too complex in my mind. I like that they changed the Retreat state to be 75% losses. This way it will be more rare to be in that situation. Also the state is less punishing if you make a mixed army of Regular and Veteran troops, so it actually promotes less uniform armies. Very Subtle.
Oh I really like it ;)Time for some thrilling heroics 😉
These are some sexy rules! Kilian needs some own text, beeing a Parrot doesn´t suit him, it´s so annoying.
Guess if there was an Imperial Guard Commissar in your army list and someone need to retreat…. *blam* go back and fight you cowards !!! *blam* *blam* /fusiliers teamkilled
Another cool rule for Infinity !
I like the way these new rules make you voluntarily do what is logical to do.
This new retreat doesn’t make you impetuous towards your border, but since the troop cannot fight, you want it out of the way.
I love this changes, I can’t wait to see that in action!
Mmm Morats can be tricky tactically speaking… but definitely brutal.
PanOceania looks to be my favourite faction.
Great video. =) Always wanted to try this game but never had the chance.
Religious people are crazy -great
Liking the increased retreat threshold as well as better troop survivability.
“The most badass aliens in the universe…” Hell Yeah! 🙂
Wow lot’s of vids this week.
Keep m coming.
Interesting changes. Seems like the Morats keep getting bad ass by the minute. I can see the benefits for my Haqq army also.
It’s a real shame that we have to wait a few more weeks before we get our hands on the full rules.
Very educative.
Being new to the game I wonder, was retreat a problematic rule in 2nd ed?
While retreat heralds the end of the game, the previous rule made most troops impetuous and forced to use these impetuous orders to attempt to run off the board. The only way to stop this was to spend another order in order to cancel the impetuous order, which you would likely have few of to use as you’d have casualties of 60% or more. While it certainly means you that the game is over, it was a more restrictive and made it more difficult to get objectives. The new rule allows for a higher causality rate, and therefore allows for longer games. It also allows for attempts at objectives to be much easier during retreat, which allows for the retreating player to attempt to either win (if unlikely) or gain more objective points (which is important in ITS, the official tournament system). However, the real prohibitive state in 2nd edition was Loss of Lieutenant. In the previous version, it caused you to only have, with some exceptions like religious and impetuous, 2 orders every turn until you started a turn with a new lieutenant, which cost two orders to elect. It essentially meant that unless you had a religious or morat army, you’re pretty much giving up your turn. The new Loss of Lieutenant is much less restrictive.
Although it did make the ‘guess the Lt’ game a lot of fun, and a massive tactical advantage if you could pull off an ‘assassination’ (in most ocassions would probably give you the win if you weren’t playing Morat or religious-heavy forces like Haqqislam, as you say)
Its still to your advantage to take out the Lieutenant, its just not the virtual instant win condition it used to be. You can still guess the LT even if they don’t use the LT order if you’re familiar enough with your opponents WIP value as well as unit placement and unit movement. Plus it’ll make the use of less conventional LTs more viable, such as TAGS, characters, and higher than faction average WIP units.
Really like these changes! Space baboons and ALEPH are in it til the end it seems 😛
Glad to hear infinity will be a bit longer too 😀 –anyone else want to stroke Killian’s hair (gentleman is fabulous!)? Keep the vids coming BoW still waiting my op. Icestorm fiz but more Tohaa on the way to tide me by.
Cool stuff but i really love to kill them all ……. Or being killed ………… Or ….. Ok retreat than. 😉
I’d better get some more paint on some more Hassassins then
those are some significant changes to retreat an LOL. i think that it will make it more fun. and those charts makes it very easy to understand
loving it more with each video
cool the new white flag …
non combactive state 0_o Cool now I can shoot at someone in the back while running
new retreeat will be relly painfull
Being able to stay active while in Retreat sounds great. It offers another layer of planning when assembling an army for your next battle.
We don’t retreat, a fighting withdrawal!
I like the Ariadna is getting some exclusive stuff since they can now be effected by hackers and their Heavy Infantry will probably be the slowest.
Very logical ruleset. I like it
LOVE this change.
Looking forward to a battle report.
No Surrender, No retreat
so far so good must have more goodness keep it up 🙂
since getting operation icestorm from GenCon, I’ve been playing infinity like crazy. I can’t wait til this book comes out!!!
While i like most of the chenges the “explain everything better” part will be by far my favorite thing in 3rd.
While i like most of the changes the “explain everything better” part will be by far my favorite thing in 3rd.
so now wait till next video, a good start for such week!
Agreed, this coverage has been absolutely fantastic so far.
great show guys !! I like what i’m seeing.
I’m loving how third is shaping up!
And that’s a damn nice change. LoL and Retreat were a real pain in last ed, I am veyr happy to see them more nuanced now.
Loving all the new info! I can’t wait for N3 now!
Liking the new rules and diagrams will always be better than pages and pages of rules!
Hoping we get a demo game at the end of this week. 🙂
I like the new rules alot
Loving the info keep it coming
Really interesting change. Retreat becomes more subtle
Ooh… this makes my Yu Jing (and JSA especiall!) happy!
Huh, yes, that would make the game longer.
I’m taking it all in but how much will stay there?
I’m definitely liking the look of 3rd edition.
Yay! hopefully now I won’t be in retreat after turn 1!
I like the concept of a retreat state, give the game a level of realism so to speak
Keep it coming guys
It just gets better & better.
Really looking forward to these – do you think you can medic in non-combative mode?
Always happy to see how well narrative/fluff translate into rules, sounds intriguing.
Agree that this change to the rule sounds a lot more logical, an incentive to try and keep your troops alive.
And now Morats are even more bad-ass than they were previously.
hahaha the preview image of Carlos! xD
Looking more exciting with each video.
Better than the old rules
Morats!!! What a thorn in my side
Hey man, I really dig it! That’s a great improvement, I mean it also reflect fluff gamewise (ie. MAF or religious troops) what can we ask more? Moreover it’s a kind of bonus plus a malus dependeing on the situation, and this rule implementation would streamline gaming and avoid irrealistic behaviour of troops like retreating and than go foward as it is possible sometimes in N2. That’s cool and neat, well done CB, well done.
I long to see the rulebook to find out if they put in it some missions or scenario that would be awesome. Listening to Bostria it seems we have quite something to speculate on …
okay now I don’t have a reason to not buy a Combind Army Force with the cool new stuff and the Morat rule change.
damn my wallet cry that it schould stop…
Such great stuff!
I love that the system seems to be aiming for simpler understanding without losing the complexity of the rules – and complex isn’t even the right term – this isn’t advanced squad leader – It’s like simulation quality but simple – a simpulation? no, but something that’s a reasonable proximity to that – can’t wait for what’s next!
The mechanics seem good. Will be interested to see it in a real game situation.
It’s perfect that morats never retreat! Now just make the vanguard playable and I will be a happy monkey.
I like the changes
Really good changes! thank you for the video
Great! Can’t wait for N3! 🙂
I like these retreat rules, can’t wait to play 3rd ed
Gonna take a loooot of robots come N3…as if I didn’t already >w>
i love the change but morats… morats… morats… morats…
No longer will my vet kazak be my lt 😀
I’m loving 3rd edition.
Never retreat!! Ariadna goes forward!!
Why am I commenting? Ah I remember why!
Seems good so far, great infinity week guys. Thanks
Cool, cool, cool, again, cool!
I really like the way you have boiled down all the rules into charts.
It makes for a much cleaner (and faster) understanding of the game!
I can’t wait to try out these changes. Looking good so far.
I like this additional rule
These rules are super tatical (all infinity rules in general) and fluff orientated But as a newbie to the game I’m gonna buy the physical rulebook as it’ll be alot to get my head round and I sold my tablet lol
These morale changes are spectacular. What good game design that gives you so many options building lists and during a battle, that also manages to fit the character of the narrative so well! Really good work!
Thanks for the video, really nice information we can get out of it. 🙂
sounds like the flow of the game is a lot more streamlined very interesting video
Another great video, Think I will have to give infinity a try
I like these new rules. The morats are unafraid!
So my space apes got a bit more badass woot!
I don’t know if i ever got the old rules right, but this is much more udnerstandable.
We don’t retreat. We tactically withdraw in a controlled manner! By that I mean screaming and waving our arms in the air with our backs to the meanies!
awesome! loving the new changes
Nice one
So glad I picked Morats.
Yes! Awesome boost for my Veteran Kazaks! 🙂
Cool changes!
Great video guys, keep them coming.
Glad I get a lot of religious troops.
Retreat sounds much better, I actually haven’t played too much campaign or ITS play so this’ll be all new to me.
Solid solid solid
Sounds like a good set of rules.
Awesome.
I really like the rationalisation of the Religious rule, fits the fluff perfectly.
Yes!
Run Away! -“The Brave Sir Robin”
Much better solution then before. LoL was such a crippling state. I once one a game wheremy opponent didn´t do anything as I managed to kill his Leutenant on my first turn and then on the second I again managed to kill the newly appointed Leutenant.
I like all the tables Carlos has. Hopefully they’re all in the book!
In Hoc Signo Vinces.
Religious troops are definitely badass !
Really love those new rules, send more!
Interesting changes. I am waiting to see more of the whole picture to see how all will work together.
Not sure I’m loving the retreat state yet, but non-combative makes a ton of sense.
The tables and markers do make it simpler to understand in my opinion. Also great news for Morats!
Well thought out retreat rules. Nice to see that there’s various ways a troop can react to breaking.
Like the changes
Veterans never been so… veteran, before :D.
I really am amazed at how streamlined CB is making everything. Cant wait for Dec.
Kazak vets all the way!!
This is AWESOME!!!
Carlos was really not fucking around when he said, that 3rd edition would be clearer and more concise.
Also that makes Morat troops into the ultimate badasses. I only hope, that at least a few ALEPH troops will get Veteran.
Very informative. I like that N3 brings some changes to extend gameplay.
I look forward to the rest of this week. The retreat change is great. The new rule set is making this game even better.
Nice
Not a particularly flashy rule, but interesting anyways.
Ah, the missus threw out my old tokens, through a grievous error…. just started replacing them, it appears that the markers have an even higher purpose than previously…..
I wonder if additional profiles with get Veteran.
I’m all for clarity. If that Phase Order is anything to go by, the new layout seems to work fine in that department.
great stuff, cant wait for the new book, and that sweet ltd bounty hunter
Hmmm i’m not sure about the new retreat % and the “be scared” status xD
if i lost 75% of my army, and no one (no specialist) can do anything to attack…i’m defeated. IF i have some specialists…cause having lost the 75% i don´t think so, maybe i can do something, but if all the rest are irregular….
i don´t know, i think we need to see all the rules and wait for the new ITS
Sounds awesome, I like all the new states. I think it’s pretty cool how Religious Troops and Morats react, definitely very fluffy.
Only just getting into Infinity, pity I have wait for N3 with these changes
Ok, so when in retreat you can’t attack. Does that include ARO shots?
Great coverage off the game, fantastic job CB and BoW for showing us what’s coming.
Did Morats just get crazy good?
Simple is good.
Morats are the best 😉
Looks like Morats will be a ton of fun now just through everything you got at the enemy without worrying about losses or lieutenants!
Not retreating, just regrouping at a position further from the enemy…er over there…
N3 is going to satisfy the chart lover in all of us.
Looks well laid out and easy to follow, I hope
Nice streamline on the phases. Having a simple checklist like this makes it a lot easier not to forget something crucial.
The retreat rules themselves are pretty great. Easy to understand and streamlined without losing depth. Basically the retreat marker just means you’re now “non-combative” and can’t fight and there are a number of abilities that keep that from happening. While being “in retreat” causes most units to turn irregular and there are fewer abilities to prevent it.
Great vid!
This new system of retreat is awesome.
It’d be neat if Religious troops could affect the “retreat” status of soldiers near them: I like the idea of everyone rallying around the scary man (or woman) with the powerful voice and fiery eyes motivating them all to ” Stop dying on the beaches and go die inland” to steal a quote. May need to proxy that after a few games to see!
…i really like the way carlos gets those dry comments out 🙂
I knew I should get a Morat force
Love some of these new mechanics.
This will make the game last longer for sure!
Wow, and to think of how many games don’t have a system like this, an army wide system.
Makes it seem like a fight to the last, which is a bit OTT for most games.
This manages to somehow add a cinematic feel to retreat. Dodging bullets while trying to save your own skin? check. Morats standing their ground until they’re riddled with said bullets? Check. Religious nut jobs refusing to give up ground? Double check. Sweeeet.
Awesome!
Can’t wait to start playing.
Hey, I resemble the religious remark. 😉
looking forward to this edition a lot more now
I think Warren said it well in the first video, a really complex game that you can slide towards. It really is a complete hobby.
Yeah, despite the lower model count, it seems to be as much of a hobby as other, larger games.
Why not !
Oh Carlos, you gave me a chuckle
Run away! Run away!
Love the game
The Necromunda ‘bottle roll’ makes it’s return 😀
I’m liking that points can be scored not necessarily by how much of your opponents army you destroy, but by how much of your own you keep alive. That’s a cool rule twist.
Really like the change to retreat, not an almost instent loss now.
Fantastic changes, so into my Infinity right now and my Operation Icestorm just arrived a few minutes ago ;0))
Nice, seems I’ve gotten my Morats done just in time for a giant dolop of extra whup-ass!
I do dig the fact that Morats just… don’t care. I hear aliens liek to say ‘It is a good day to die!”
Its gona be good to see how each of these rules changes act when put together for the complete 3rd edition book..
Run away! Run away!
Sounds pretty good
Give me that Jotum!
I need to get me some veteran troops
The changes seem for the better, can’t wait to play 3rd myself.
It’s late Thursday night and at last some time on my hands. My infinity week starts tonight
looks solid, happy to see all is not lost when you’re in retreat
Interesting way of handling morale in battle. Sounds better than most games I’ve played.
I don’t need these rules. My boys’ll never retreat!
I wonder if this will change the turn counts for ITS.
Bravely ran Sir Robbin, he bravely ran away!
This is so much easier to understand. I am lving N3!
Thank you guys so much for the series of videos
well it sounds like a cool idea.
Woah, this is so much better!
Watching these videos is extremely helpful for a newbie trying to understand how Infinity works.
Oh my goodness, Morats… 😮
Another great video by the BoW team. Loving Infinity week. Keep up the excellent work!
no retreat
carlos is looking gangsta in the preview picture.
A good lieutenant die but never retreat !
I’m really interested in what Carlos said about an “extermination mission” – I’m wondering if there’s basic scenarios/game types in the core book?
No retreat, no surrender! (^_^)
We don’t call it “retreat”, we call it “tactical rapid redeployment”.
I feel like picking up the rules just for the convenient charts provided – great stuff.
Morat. Never surrender. Never retreat.
Have only been in the table top hobby for a month now, practising my painting and and assembling on ‘hand me downs’ and I felt I was finally ready to take the plunge into one wargame that gave me multiple play style options. I must say. Infinity has done that for me :’)
More worth to courage. Great.
Glad to see my Morat are being made more badass. Retreat is for the weak.
This looks like a good change.
I can’t wait for N3!
Just learned about N3 and picked up Icestorm today. Now I’m working my way through the videos… and hoping I win the boxes to fill out my forces!
loving the changes
Morat Power!
This makes the retreat turn not nearly as hard on the player. Well done.
Interesting!
Looks cool. And it’s nice that it can be summarized in a couple of charts.
The Old Man in the Mountain is watching you.
Very interesting…
I predict an increase in ‘Epic Last Stand’ anecdotes…excellent!
