Does this Man Pack Finecast?
June 24, 2011 by brennon
Take a look at these pictures from Wayland Games!
Apparently they have been forced to return some Finecast due to various casting defects and... inclusions... but what we're all asking is...
Does this man pack Finecast?
If you want to see more of the stuff Wayland are returning... then click here.

If Tom Sellecks hair is in your finecast blister then its actually worth more imo
I think your forgetting it’s from GW!
I was worried about hairline cracks…
But the problems seems to be crack line hairs…
good catch man have 5 free karma
BoW Justin
I need to make a couple hundred fake accounts just to give you a thumbs up on all of them!!!
You just got more karma in one post then I have gotten combined. You sir are the god of comments. *bows*
Ew, chesticle hair …
To use the World of Warcraft-generations way of speaking; Epic fail. The hair is just pure comedy gold though.
Think this demands a pubic enquiry.
GW finally give something away for free but haven’t quite worked out the concept.
or is it a sign that they are pulling their hair out over quality of Finecast?
Out of 60 blisters 33 were flawed/with fails. That is 55% as they say on wayland games!
GW needs to sort themselves out! I was going to play a geme in my local GW store but aparently GK are banned there!!? Ive decided to move on to flames of war, GW has jerked us around too much so i say screw them im outta here! D:<
Grey Knights are banned in your local Games Workshop? Which store is that? I’m pretty sure if you phoned customer service to ask about that they’d be upset that a store was restricting the use of any official army, let alone one that came with a massive expensive to produce wave of plastics.
GW bluewater
Yeah, I have to know more about this. Where is it and what was the reason given?
Interesting turn of events.
Having sites like BoW and the various forums criticise the product is one thing, it hurts PR a bit in a specific group, but having whats probably one of the two largest indie dealers of GW in Europe publicly state they are returning all stock because over half of the items they looked at had faults?
Thats starting to hurt commercially, which is a whole new ball game.
I for one applaud Wayland, its very easy for an indie to just send these out, GW cannot ever be faulted on customer service and they would replace the bad ones without question, but they have taken the stand that these things shouldnt be sold in the first place, even with the knowledge it will be replaced, and I agree, its a gutsy move business wise, and it benefits us as customers more than wayland as retailers I should think.
mybe thats what they want 2 do send out alot of defects 2 the indies that way peeps will buy of them. also recent footage of jfk assassintion show clearly that if was GW who shot him with a bolter
@nogginthenog sorry mate fat thumb knocked you down to12 rather than up to 14 do’h!
Don’t think there is any real need for concern.
It might be a Space Wolf character so it is just the hair of the dog. 😛
If you saw that in a gw store and pointed it out, they’d probably at £5 to the price.
‘finecut’
Citadel Finecast. Hair today, gone tomorrow.
Man that’s a bad joke.
Okay I’m not a huge fan of the lord of the rings minis so I have no idea what’s actually missing from
But I’m pretty sure Gothmog would prefer it to be there….
The hairs are a bit nasty but not really as big deal a deal as the missing.. whatever is missing, its not like you’re gonna’ lick the models all over before you paint them. Dear god I hope nobody posts to correct me on that..
Weeeell…
Not so much splitting hairs as spitting hairs! *shudder*
Ewwwww there’s been a filthy Moltaguiste packing Finecast!!!
Has GW made any public statments about the quality problems with Finecast?
Every movie with tom selleck should get an academy award for best actor (tom selleck’s mustache) and best supporting actor (tom selleck)
“To Sheldon , live long and prosper , Tom Selleck” …..” I POSSESS THE DNA OF TOM SELLECK ? ” *sob sob* “DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THIS MEANS ? ” “All I need is a healthy ovum and I can grow my own Tom Selleck!”
Risky business that Partisan
Sir Dickie Attenborough tried that and look at the trouble it caused!
At least he had the forsight to perform the experiment on Tracy Island so only International Rescue got eaten by Raptorvelocipeds
This is too true!
Seriously risky stuff this whole ovum and Tom Selleck thing…please reconsider…for all our sakes!
for the love of god, it’s not a bowl of soup ppl. i can’t believe that a hair in your blister merits a return…you just want to complain for the sake of complaining. no matter how good the finecast would have been, someone would have bitched about something else…yeah, the finecast isin’t perfect, but you know what, even if it was, someone would find some obscure, small, insignificant detail to moan and groan about. the finecast is in it’s infancy…give it time, and they will improve. that’s the problem with most ppl these days…they want everything done perfect, and they want it yesterday. grow the hell up and be patient. it reminds me of when we have to do construction in town…they want it done in 5 mins. and it has to be perfect, even though they don’t know jack about construction…they just like to hear themselves talk…or in this case, they just want to see they’re comments posted, no matter how idiotic and uneducated they may be. i’m not saying everyone is, but it’s a healthy majority.like my mum always said, if you don’t have anything good to say…shut up and behave or you’ll get the backhand!!
@deathangel said: the finecast is in it’s infancy…give it time…
Why?
If I buy a model now and it has a fault, why should I accept “we’ll get it right next time” as an excuse?
I wouldn’t accept it in any other purchase. Why should I now?
However, I agree that sending it back because of a hair (that may not be a pube) is a bit silly.
I bought a Death Star the other day, but it had an exhaust port in it that’s a potential weak-spot for a lone starfighter to exploit, so I’m not very happy with the designers.
But it’s ok, the’ll get it right next time…
The hair in the packaging is funny and no big deal as was said above.
The other problems on the other hand…
If someone wants premium cash for what they proclaim as being a premium product then it jolly well ought to be premium quality.
Flipping a coin for a 50/50 chance of a good cast is simply not good enough,
Give it time and the casts will get worse as I understand it because the moulds will suffer wear and tear,
If that s the case, you will have to wait for the mould to be replaced before getting a good chance of a good cast.
Remember when talking 50% faults, they didnt open any packs up.
You can only see , at best, 50% of any given miniature, and mostly about 30% , by looking at the clampack.
That suggests an even worse fault rate in truth.
Well if you advertised yourself as the best in the world, charged the highest prices and then didn’t construct up to those standards, would you blame people for not being happy with your work? We’re not talking about the vocal minority of those who always find a reason to complain. We’re talking about how is it possible that a company in the current financial climate says their work is the best, prices it very high and then has such a rate of failure. Imagine a new operational procedure or a drug with a 50/50 prognosis. Or a new car model. Sure noone’s going to die because of the minis (hopefully not even the fanboys will sniff the finecast dust), but that’s not the point here. A company that thinks it’s OK to put out a product in the spirit of “it can be fixed later” should be put into a deserved place on the market by the consumer. HP’s Compaq felt it, Microsoft is feeling it and I think GW will, to some extent as well. If people say they don’t want a single, micrometer wide bubble on their minis for the cost, who are you to say they’re whiners?
I think the problem here is that it is Wayland Games …they dont buy the stuff for themselfs ..so it might be no problem for a normal person to find a hair inside …the thing is If I would find a hair in a package I wouldnt buy it and as Wayland Games has to sell this stuff its a legit thing to send those back to GW because in the end they might be left with these.
Well if your paying GW prices then you bloody well expect perfection not the rubbish that they have bought out!!
You’re damn right people want their construction done perfectly. They are paying premium prices for skilled tradesmen to deliver a product and service they are trained to provide. I’ve seen enough “full of themselves” contractors, electricians, plumbers and carpenters who can’t do a job properly to know. People don’t pay you to do things half-arsed and they don’t pay for a good enough job. They pay for a specific service. If you don’t provide that service, you don’t deserve to be in business.
The same goes for GW. They claim to be the biggest and best in the business. They charge prices to match that claim, yet obviously their product doesn’t show it. As I’m sure your Mom has also said, “Don’t let your mouth write checks your arse can’t cash”
So if your paying premium prices you dont deserve a premium product? And please i’d love you to try to backhand me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what the betty is wrong with you? A HAIR is not acceptable in ANY product, let alone one at such an inflated, vicious price! GW Fanboi omgz. GW gets away with what almost NO other products or companies would get away with.
If they call themselves FINECAST and charge £36 for a Shaggoth then you EXPECT a HIGH level of quality. GW dropped the ball and they deserve all the negative consequences that come with it. HAIR in the package for crying out loud! You like hair in your KFC?
I suspect the hair comments are a joke and the returns are due to actual casting imperfections /facepalm
“When I die I want you to cremate me and throw my ashes in Tom Selleck’s face.” (From Bob’s Burgers)
If GW charge £15 for a single human-sized miniature I’m going to expect absolute perfection. Their justification for that price tag is that these are the “best miniatures in the world”. Well, at that price they had better be! If it doesn’t march right out of the packaging and salute me, I’m gonna complain! GW need to either man up to the quality issues, or reduce the price to levels charged by other companies. Either way, even one bubble, or pube, is too much!
come to germany here they charge you 20,75€ for a symbiarch ^^
Oh just great. I’ve got the stinking Magnum, P.I. theme song stuck in my head now.
Whenever your troubled by a hair in your blister
You can always go Backstage!
Whether it’s straight or the hair is a twister
You can always go Backstage!
Hope the unofficial BoW signature tune helps alieviate the ear worm for you
and God bless Petula!
You’re lucky. I’ve got the A-Team theme in my head. I wish it was McGyver instead. 🙁
I have a strange feeling that Charlie Sheen might have packed the fincast sent to Wayland Games. Therefore don’t touch or risk being quarantined.
probably not a good idea to let mr Selleck use the fine tooth comb used for quality control
Chuck Norris has perfect finecast modells!
I seriously wonder and worry about GW, as in what the hell were they thinking and who does their quality control ?
Ah, so that explains why my order from Wayland Games was three weeks late. They were too busy checking blister packs for miscellaneous man hair.
You’re a lucky one then. My order has been awaiting stock for almost 2,5 weeks. I’m beginning to wonder what is in that order that is so hard to get. Better check if i ordered the 8th edition special edition rulebook, signed by both popes and Dan Abnett.
This is to both Spider and Jonatanrullman.
Guys we have as you are probably aware had the largest surge of orders ever during the second half of May, and we very quickly during that period made it clear on our front page and facebook that the volumes would have an impact on the service levels we provide.
We updated these comments constantly to ensure that as many customers were aware of the issues prior to ordering.
It is incredibly frustrating for us not to be able to plan adequately for all situations, but when a dominant supplier changes terms in such a way to create a huge rise in short term demand we are unable to react as we would if the situation was fully in our control. It takes 6 weeks to take a new member of staff and bring them up to scratch normally. We had less than 2 weeks notice of these changes.
The vast majority of orders from before the changes have been shipped, and now we are catching up rapidly for orders since, by Thursday we should have caught up and be processing normally.
We have been completely open and honest about the delays even if it is bad news for our customers.
I recommend you click on the link above to check out the flaws in the minis Wayland rejected — sure, a hair in the packaging is worth a laugh, but there are some obvious and SERIOUS miscasts in there. There’s such a thing as quality control — you can’t pass problems like these on to distributors, then retailers, then consumers, who then have to complain and shoulder the burden of sending the product back on up the supply chain. “Fail” indeed.
NOW I know where my money is going to! I will excuse GW for the silly embargo on my country and give hurra´s for this fine fine cast…
Wayland has announced today they will not carry finecast at all and all existing orders will be canceled and refunded.
Were did they announce that?
Their web store and facebook pages both still say “Although we will be returning our present stockholding to the manufacturer, please be assured that we remain committed to carrying the Finecast line and will be restocking in due course.”
i knew Darrel had a secret fetish for finecast, shame he was trying to use the wrong sort of sticky material to put it together haha
The product is unacceptable.
The thread illustrates how well GW stands on the goodwill of its player base, I understand one may be forgiving if he or she loves what the company does, but the pics show an unacceptable product, I beleive GW is burning goodwill when they should expanding it.
Citadel FinePubes. Yum.
Now why didn’t I see this comming? I knew it was a bad idea when GW took all their metal miniatures off the shelves! But who still does metal miniatures????
It seems that hair is from a fiber bundle of some sort but who knows, maybe, just maybe, magnum P.I. is doing an investigatin into the secret process of finecast. Maybe he was hired by the guy who had the melting Gandalf to seek revenge and did a shotty infiltration job. Maybe mantic sent him for the top secret documents for the formulary mix. Hell he could even be working for willie wonka, but I’m convinced gw bought the oopa loopas long ago and are holing them captive in lenton. I think we should send in knight rider to save him.
“It seems that hair is from a fiber bundle of some sort but who knows…”
Easy; burning it should show without doubt weather it’s hair or a synthetic fiber; if it shrivels and drips its synthetic. If it smells like seven hells … you get the idea … 🙂
We all got it wrong. You’re supposed to cut the hair into little pieces and stick them to the mini for realistic hair effect. Or use it as a bow string.
I have plenty enough strings to my bow of my own thank you! lol
As I wrote elsewhere, you are all missing the obvious and brilliant marketing ploy of the decade.
Buy a Finecast get a FREE pubic hair.
So if you buy lots of Finecast models, you get enough to make your very own GW Muff Rug!
“But I don’t need a nether wig!” I hear you protest, “My minge is fully formed/trimmed into a bush in the form of the Aqulia!”
Ah, but consider this my topiary tushed friend, the target audience of pre pubescents who will soon be moving up into secondary education and having to shower communally.
The nerdy tykes can strut around the changing room with pride!
No wind in the willows for the Warhammer players, unlike their baldy crotched classmates.
““But I don’t need a nether wig!” I hear you protest, “My minge is fully formed/trimmed into a bush in the form of the Aqulia!”
Expect a missive from the IP Police! 🙂
You sir win. Congratulations. You may have all of my internets. 😀
And by ‘you sir’, I meant ‘chibi’.
This COULD be an epic fail on their part. If you look at the left boot of the chaos exalted hero
), the bit that they are saying is a crack is in fact a tear in the boot itself on the miniature
)
Is that the sound of GWs lawyers i hear?
a hair is unacceptable, it’s gross and should not be there. also releasing a high cost, high quality model that is not perfect is also wrong. if the process needs refining then it is not ready for public release.
I bought a pack of treekin, they actually had a hair molded into the model. Thought it was odd, cut it off, then didn’t bother about it anymore. The hair looked a bit lighter or perhaps greyer than the one in those pictures though, but about equal length.
While generally I’d find the idea of returning a mini because it has a hair in the packaging laughable, things are different here.
GW insists the reason they charge the same or more than metal models for Finecast is because it’s a ‘superior product’. Really? Well then folks are going to expect superior products. Superior products don’t have hairs in the packaging and little bits missing.
If they’d charged less and simply said: “Hurrah! It’s cheaper than metal! We make a little bit more and we charge you a little bit less! Enjoy!” I’d be a lot more likely to overlook a few faults and do some greenstuff work.
Why don’t we use this hair to clone the real culprit, Gerald!
Who’s Gerald?
Mark Well’s pet gerbil?
I made a grave faux pas on my attempt to make a funny. The real joke is below.
‘Let us clone the hair DNA, but we will only will find it was Darrell, lol’
