Unboxing: Frostgrave Knights From North Star Military Figures #FrostgraveWeekOTT
December 27, 2020 by avernos
Today we're wrapping up Frostgrave Week with by unboxing the excellent Frostgrave Knights box set for second edition from North Star Military Figures.
Frostgrave Books - Frostgrave Miniatures - Frostgrave Terrain
Gerry is back with more Frostgrave for you all. This time he's unboxing a set of knights to join your warband. The sculpts are clean, highly detailed and the box provides a large variety of options for assembling some meat sacks in armour.
The set is hard plastic and allows you to build 10 different specialist soldiers, including Knights, Templars, Marksmen and Captains.
We also think this is great set for building up an Oathmark force too.
Will you be adding these to your Frostgrave force?

These might work well for Lion Rampant.
A detailed and well rounded set as we have come to expect. I’m not to keen on the high fantasy long horn helms but then I’m sure others will be and anyway there’s a pleasant amount of options all around
There are always nippers and files to take care of those extras… but yeah, it does seem like a good mix of fantasy with a nod towards some more historical options so everyone can find something they like.
Very true ?
They look very nice for the price you get 10 for 15 pounds which is pretty cheap. However I think like most people the wallet is a bit empty right now. I will have to make a note of them for possible future purchase.
yep. great kit for the price. I did not realize, there are 10 of them until you mentioned it. So there are 2 sprues in the box probably.
I’ll agree the woodgrain or no woodgrain does seem a bit odd when they are all showing planks (so they can’t really have leather over them
but overall a decent set
Not got a box of these yet, they do look lovely so I might have to pick some up.
Do they come with a shrubbery?
no these are French kniggets 😉
Verdammt!
Lots of options for weapon swaps if you don’t use them all in future builds.
Looking forward to getting some Frost Grave for my birthday in January
Nice set of figures
Having so many mix and match options is great for giving your warband some character.
Nice figures but I think will get the old soldiers box set first.
Hey Fred, why are you choking that chicken?
Well Bob, when was the last time you saw a chicken run through Felstad?
The variety on the sprue is nice. A lot of options is always nice especially when there are left overs 😀
How do these scale to other miniature manufacturers(GW, Reaper, …)? Any good scale comparisons online you can share?
Ohhhhhhhh I really like those helmet options ……. and the weapons……. and the pack/belt pouch options…… and the chicken !
It is a most excellent kit indeed.
I should get some for us of Feudal Patrol.
I like that the box only has 10 minis. Usually we all want more in a box, but because I would be likely just buying it for Frostgrave 10 is plenty. With less sprues they are able to sell it for less than the boxes that hold 20+ minis in and there’s less waste or painful selling and posting away what you don’t need.
North Star has been making great kits for Frostgrave.
Great game and the minis are excellent with plenty of options, leaving loads of bits for your kit bashing.
Pretty cool! I just recently got the first edition of Frostgrave. Played it once and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to BIG world of Frostgrave. Thank you for posting these vids.
Pretty cool! Looking forward to checking out the new stuff. Thanks for posting.
Great looking detailed knights for gaming in various systems
Another great classic fantasy set for Frostgrave
Very nice.
Love that you can mix and match everything with all the other Frostgrave boxes.
It makes for great individual looking warbands.
Really liked the more realistic looking heads. Definitely adding the kit to my growing frostgrave collection.
These would be great for a variety of games!
Nice kit. But I hope they will also do a female version of them in the future.
My only “niggle” with these (and the last few box sets in fact) is that they’ve lost their cold weather vibe (as you see with the first two Soldiers box sets). The one thing that set them apart from “generic” fantasy minis was all the layers of clothing and firs. The new Demon box set doesn’t even have any fir added to them (they would have looked excellent with fir cloaks added to them over all that plate armour).
Still the knights box set is good for kitbashing the specialists you’ll need (not only knights, but treasure hunters and marksmen (all of which have “heavy” armour)), and possibly for doing some officer/hero minis for your Oathmark human armies as well.
Great kit bash potential with all the different bits, not only with these sprue but others in the same range.
They look nicely detailed and I love the range of head sculpts included.
This is a great box! Great leftover bits afterwords for other projects… I have yet to assemble mine, but after seeing yours, i think i’ll do a few this week, i do have a few gaps to fill in my warband anyway!
Thanks for the vid!
It’d be nice to get to combine with their other sets.
These look fantastic… I just wish there were a few uniform shields. 3 similar, with 2 unique would be helpful.
I gotta get these!
some excellent pieces for kit bashing
I still cant get over how versatile these sets are when you think you can merge them with any of the other plastic sets they do, including oathmark!
Great looking models, pity there’s not a mixed box with a mix of the wizard, soldier, knight and possibly barbarian sprues availiable
That is a lovely kit but not enough shields and I am not liking the lack of woodgrain either.
I’m not that impressed with this set if I’m honest. Previous sets were better…it’s just a bit meh
These look real good, thanks for the unboxing!
I can’t emphasise enough how much I love these North Star boxed minis. I had great fun with the original soldiers set; have made WH40k civilians (and many cultists) with the cultist set and the backbone of my Rangers of Shadow Deep party (WIP – and I just fancied making a new one for Rangers) is a sprue of female soldiers.
I already have metal minis for the more armoutred Frostgrave soldiers but I just know they’ll be good for something, somewhen.
A spue designed by different people then I assume? One guy liked wood grain and another didn’t?
Watching this week has really got me fired up for making a warband. Definitely going to get some of theses sets and kit bash the hell out of them!
Interesting, not really something I’d use personally.
You could even share this box set with a few other players if needed, as the knights are more elite (and actually cost the wizard to hire) you wouldn’t have a lot in each warband normally.
cant complain regards the options on these sprues
Think you’ve missed a trick here. If this had been uploaded on the 24th, it could have been the “knight before Christmas”.
it was a nice frostgrave week, really love it!
another good box set from this series, best of this box is the plucked chicken.
things to distract your opponent is always welcome and usually cheerful during a game.
all have a good end year and especially a safe one and hope we can play together again in 2021.
????
Knights box is a great one for warbands. I’ve been repurposing Burrows & Badgers for Frostgrave but would dive into this box to get some proper minis
I love all the customization options that come in this set!
These look really cool! Love the extra bits!
Cool looking minis. Good video, thanks Gerry.
Had to buy two boxes of them…
It’s been ages since I played this.
Nice knights.
Love the lantern, proper fantasy that is.
There should be far more companies offering figures/sprues with lanterns.
I do have this box on the way, but with the various lockdowns I’m expecting a bit of a delay in it arriving down here in Australia. Good to get a sneak peak of what’s heading my way.
I will be picking these up for sure to kitbash with my other kits. Still need Soldiers II also!!!
a good detailed kit. it could be used in d&d.
Got myself a box pre Xmas, nice figures, plus can be mixed with the other sets.
All hail the Gerry from the bathroom 😛
looks a lot like double handed axe guy was glued upside down, or is it me being blind?
Flexible like their previous boxes.
Probaly the most amazing fact about Frostgrave plastic sets: all the part are interchangeable so the options for conversions are almost endless :).
Someone else mentioned it, but I think Northstar would make a gold mine if they released a “Frost Grave Starter Box” with a collection of the various sprues. A Wizard, soldier, cultist, Knight, etc. the one issue with these boxes is they are individually cheap, but you only need a few minis of the 10-20 in the box. If you buy several different boxes, they aren’t cheap anymore.
Could just as well work for Shadow Deep. Lovely models.
Well, I’m glad we all now know one of Gerry’s pet peeves about inconsistent wood grain…
Lol.. I’m wondering if I’d have even noticed!!! Then again, I do like the options you get in this set… like he said, it’s flexible for a lot of different styles.. and of course, with things like the shields (or even specific weapons or helmets) there are probably a LOT of options out there for unifying your force if you needed to.
And I’m not saying I’m going to be mixing the undead parts from the Cultist Box in with these, but I’m going to be mixing the undead parts from the Cultist box in with these =p
Love all the frostgrave human kits , just started converting the soldiers with freeguild pistolier bits from GW to make a Mordheim band
I can see how the wood grain can be a little bit of an annoyance, but over all love the kit.
I’m curious, would it be possible to mix those torsos with barbarian arms or head?
I hope so!
it could be useful for making for your rpg none playable character
need to get a few of these
So is it justme or do you not have frostgrave in the store?
Good basic human soldiers models. Much better value than some other makers. Not easy to source here in Canada though.
Please enter me in the Frostgrave Bundle Draw!
Yaaassss!!! So many more lovely bits! These knights are a great addition to the North Star catalog.
These look nice. I may get these for some other games as well.
I love the Hyborian vibe from some of the helmets.
Those are cool looking models with lots of options to choose from also kinda cheap 🙂
I want a box of these!
Great value and variety in this set to make a groups of town guards for other game systems. I need to check out the other sets as well.
Need to try the 2nd edition sounds really good.
There North Star Frostgrave kits are fantastic. I’ve got the Soldiers ket and have kitbashed the contents very successfully to make many different adventurers. If I were to get another I’d probably go for the Cultists. So many different uses.
These would be great kitbashed with the new demons. Make some interesting heroes.
Question : How do you know if you’ve won ? Hate to miss an announcement of that magnitude
Those sprues are filled with interesting bitz for many games !
This looks great!
As the guys have demonstrated, combining the various Frostgrave kits together for an ultimate mix and match is so exciting.
Yet another great looking kit. I know everyone says it but it’s good to get such a nice collection of options in a box. I wonder if 10 instead of the 20 like the soldiers is indicative of the points cost in game or just a bit of a tweak to the boxes for Second edition branding.
I was lucky to see this demoed last year. Looked fun. Just need to make the plunge.
As for semi-coop…Love it. I prefer those kinds of games.
This Frostgrave ranges’ greatest asset is the ability to mix and match between sets. Quite fun in this regard actually.
What are the magnetizing options here. I can’t tell how well that would work, but in a game like frost grave I would think being able to change out weapons would be a great option, sorry if this was asked and answered, cant see the text on my crappy little phone
I got a test sprue from Northstar at release. Nice one, but haven’t used it yet.
In 1st edition I wanted to start a warband based of on knightly order, but couldn’t decide to run thaumaturge as my wizard, and no other fitted the idea IMO.
Ah, veeeery cool looking minis.
These look like some nice mini’s for Frostgrave or can be useful for other games.
I like all the options, I usually buy minis that are all one piece or no options for weapon swaps.
