November 26, 2012 by dracs
Hawk Wargames have announced that their selection of resin modular terrain for Dropzone Commander is now available for pre-order.
Hawk Wargames have a wide selection of detailed terrain for you to set out your table tops with. These buildings will be able to help you to create a great looking game, providing you with interesting settings to steer your ships and vehicles through as you wage sci-fi warfare.
Will these buildings make their way onto your Christmas lists?

Holy Christ… How Much!?
F- That.
Ive had a chat with some of the other people on the forum and it seems yes, its very pretty, yes it has lots of components, and yes it can be assembled into many configurations, all of these are good things, plus also remember Hawk Wargames are a very new company but this does seem very expensive to me. Maybe the choice of material isnt the best, but I think it wont do well. Most wargamers I know game in the 28mm scale, or maybe even in 15mm, but trying to get people into a new system is hard enough, even if the models are gorgeous (which I think most of us can agree) but im sorry, its too high a price point to get me collecting a new system in a new scale.
I hope the guys at HW are reading these comments. I was eagerly waiting for this terrain to be released. When I saw the prices I was literally stunned. 15 building for $1200 US? Insane!!! These buildings are tiny! they added an extra number in there on accident I think. Maybe 75 pounds for 15, sure as hell not 750.
These buildings will not sell to anyone, no matter how nice. I wrote that off and started looking into some laser cut MDF buildings. They are way more realistically priced.
HW you guys need to reevaluate these prices. They are impossibly too expensive for anyone but the richest gamers on the planet.
But they do look nice.
All of us that are complaining about the price tag of the terrain should look at the rest of the line. This is an expensive game right from the get go. Look at the starter sets, its close to $100 Canadian! Dropzone Commander was such an expected game when it first hit the sean and now that its out I can’t see myself paying that price for them. Its such a shame really.
Hahaha! Nice one! Oh… What? Wait… It’s not April!?
Joder!
no bro, its not April fools 🙁
Wow, just wow…
I don’t think I’ve seen anything so awesomely expensive for a while. They are incredible pieces of design and the quality of the components looks amazing, but they don’t exactly look easy to put together (as in wargamer simpleton level easy) and you’d need to drop, what? A grand or more/less to get the buildings you’d need?
If anything needs a kickstarter it’s to get these buildings into a cheaper material and made available for 6mm and 15mm scales. For me the benefits of these buildings don’t overcome the cheaper option of their free print and play designs they have on their site.
I love the look and design of DZC but it’s sadly out of my reach, with scale being a big issue as it’s not compatible with anything else (save the vehicles for maybe 6mm). Still if I had a couple of grand to burn I would love to get into it in a big way. Any donations? 😉
The price for those buildings is daft; it might be justified with regards to how much it costs to make them, but I struggle to believe many people are going to buy those buildings. Even if you had a group of people pooling together so that they could make a nice board, the cost is still too high.
What is puzzling though, is that at the other end of the spectrum, you can download pdf’s from dropzone’s own website to make your own buildings for very little cost. You can in fact make a very big city for very little cost.
It is shame really, because I was looking forward to the release of those buildings although again it might be worth emphasizing that you can make a bunch of reasonably good looking buildings for not very much money at all.
A couple of the guys at my local play DZC and they sent me the link, and I nearly fell of my chair at work with shock. Surfice to say they will be using the downloads and make their own instead.
I love the stuff but the price is sooo expensive.
Hmm, its great quality, no doubt, and I do like the models I have, I bought the Post Human starter set , but I’ve never played the game , havent even got around to painting them yet to be honest.
However, I think Resin was a bad choice for materials if these prices are the consequence, maybe something like hydrocal would have made them a more affordable product, not as nice obviously, but perhaps a better selling product.
The biggest problem they have is that really, this terrain is only good for the one game, it cant be cross purposed very easily, even if you expand to 15mm the other big games out there at this scale are all ww2/historical, which this stuff isnt really suitable for, so for a single use product, I think its unfortunately just not viable at these prices.
Costs way to much but it can be crossed purposed for heavy gear for one and if you do not care to much flames of war
I liked the look of the game, then learnt it was 10mm not 6mm. I understand that it means there are less proxies and your models are prettier, but I couldn’t go for yet another scale. Especially when it apparently costs the same as hiring a modeller to make a city as buy their unpainted.
Anyone knows if this is still in production? Cant seem to find them on TTCombats webstore…
