    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    Introduce yourselves (New member thread)

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Questions:

    • In light of the recent events would you rather have geo-political topics discussed or do you want your hobby space free from it?
    • What was your last hobby related purchase you did?
    • Is there any Podcast, YouTuber, Streamer or maybe even blog/forum/website you love and think to yourself “more people need to see this!”? Please provide links if yes.

And now back to the show.

Hobby pledge: continuing work on the Luke Skywalker SW:L mini.

    My answers:

    • I’m split in this. On the one hand I want the hobby to be a place of peace and quiet to relax and recharge my batteries. At the same time the very nature of part of our hobby is war. So.. yeah. We can have discussions on recent events but I think they should be kept to separate threads/topics and we also should respect if someone just says “I won’t talk about it, don’t mention it to me please”. After two years of pandemic peoples skins are understandably thin.
    • The last things I ordered and that are actually in my possession are the Army Painter Speedpaint Starter Set, a glass of Tamiya liquid plastic cement and the “Ulterior Motives Red Herrings II minis” for Frostgrave. Last thing I ordered but have yet to receive are some 25x25mm & 25x50mm bases, rattle can primer and varnish and the “Winter Snowscape Gaming Mat 3×3 ” from Battle System (Yes and the Bot War 2 Turbo Edition is still on its way… I hope…)
    • Nothing on top of my head at the moment… Viewers of the uHH will know that I did a cheaky sneaky thing but I won’t provide that link here. Go watch the YouTube video 😉

Now, I have coffee, 5 more hours of office to go and then it’s off to the weekend. Stay safe and play games.

yep … my hobby time was exactly as I predicted last week : effectively zero …
Sure, I technically got today to do a bit but I’ve already got things to do that aren’t hobby related (need to check up with my dad at his new place).

    (1) In light of the recent events would you rather have geo-political topics discussed or do you want your hobby space free from it?
I prefer to be as far away from it as humanly possible, because I like having at least one spot that isn’t tainted by the real world. Plenty of sites for that sort of stuff as is. OTOH it is good that there is a ‘#world-events’ channel on the OTT discord now so I can clear my mind as it were.

    (2) What was your last hobby related purchase you did?

hmm technically that would be the pirate borg kickstarter …
I also got a few bits incoming from Warlord and OTT store.

    (3) Is there any Podcast, YouTuber, Streamer or maybe even blog/forum/website you love and think to yourself “more people need to see this!”? Please provide links if yes.

The Spiffing Brit can be fun to watch when he demonstrates how broken certain (video)games are :

I wonder if anyone ever did something like that for tabletop games … needs to be a proper British voice though 😀
I literally cringe every time I hear one of my fellow country men/women try and speak English.

most Dutch speakers are still much better then your regular German…

The spiffing Brit is cool but I guess it would be hard to transcribe that to tabletop wargaming….

Happy Friday. I’m now 52 hours into Elden Ring and zero hobby done last week. For my pledge I may try and finish a few Gates of Antares miniatures that have been patiently sitting on my painting table for over a week half done.
Saturday we plan to play more Reich Busters board game fun.

In light of the recent events would you rather have geo-political topics discussed or do you want your hobby space free from it?

It’s good now and then but really I’d rather have this as a pure hobby related and escape place.

What was your last hobby related purchase you did?

I recently received a fairly big order from Otherworld Miniatures, more stuff for Rangers of Shadow Deep. I also got some 3×3 battle mats (dirty streats and grassy plain) from Battle Systems this week, again mostly for Rangers, but will be perfect for Sláine.

Is there any Podcast, YouTuber, Streamer or maybe even blog/forum/website you love and think to yourself “more people need to see this!”? Please provide links if yes.

    Podcasts;

Tabletop Miniature Hobby Podcast (some good chatter and interviews) – https://bedroombattlefields.com/podcast/

Rule of Carnage Podcast (Mike Hutchinson of Gaslands and Billion Suns talks game design) – https://gaslands.com/rule-of-carnage/

    That’s enough for now.

This week’s pledge is to finish “assembling” (i.e. gluing to bases) some 10mm stands. Then they need undercoating along with a GW artist’s proof toy. Then I’ll pick one or the other to start painting.

    1. In light of the recent events would you rather have geo-political topics discussed or do you want your hobby space free from it? – I don’t mind if they come up. If I don’t want to engage with them I can always ignore that particular thread.
    2. What was your last hobby related purchase you did? – The artist’s proof toy mentioned above. I thought it would be interesting to paint a 250mm figure.
    3. Is there any Podcast, YouTuber, Streamer or maybe even blog/forum/website you love and think to yourself “more people need to see this!”? Please provide links if yes. – Well yes, but it really depends what you are in to. I quite like a guy who does videos on swords and other forms of “old” warfare.

@sundancer I’d say the latest 40k/AoS codex is likely to be a goldmine of things that are either broken or will break other factions.

Heck … from the intro to that TotalWar 3 video it sounds like a typical AoS codex release.

OTOH … I don’t care enough about GW games that I give a *beep* about how broken their games really are.

Your English isn’t bad. I can understand what you’re saying and it’s not riddled with Engrish expressions, except when it’s fun to do so.

No work today, I’ve got the Weekender on, and last night I painted for a fair few hours.

My pledge is mostly done, just varnish and basing. I think having some time off from the hobby every now and then is really good for me as I really enjoyed painting last night. I suppose you need a little time off from everything just to recharge.

Next I’m going to assemble a model I got from my friends a few weeks ago for my birthday, a werewolf teddy bear from Northumbrian Tin Soldier. I wanted him on a larger rounded lipped base which I had to order off eBay, hence the wait.

Happy Saturday…. I had a good nights sleep, finished the Luke Skywalker mini and will now do my best not to ruin Lando…

I wonder, how often do you have ideas in your head for something that never lead to anything? A few days ago I was reminded that I still have an unpainted Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka and Makari model sitting in the box. You know the really old model.

    http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/10/5/544469_md-Gazgul%2C%20Ghazghkull%20Thraka%2C%20Orks%2C%20Thraka%2C%20Warboss.JPG

And my thought was something like: “If if put him on a really big base, the same diameter the current edition would ned, and pile a lot of dead enemies beneath him, he’d still be the OG Waaaghboss but “rules accurate””

Sure that would look cool but since I’m never going to play 40k anytime soon… what’s the point?! Plus so many projects waiting to be done… SO MANY!

welcome to my world I’d say …

soo many ideas that pop into my head and so little time to actually do anything.

    Never mind playing any games.
At least I should have a bit more me time now that my dad has moved to a home for old folks.

    // — edit —
So yeah … hobby ? Not much, unless watching a video tutorial about Docker can be considered ‘hobby’.
It kind of is for me, because I like writing code and this was interesting as it opened up new options for my hobby project (still in design phase ’cause I’m doing “research” 😀 ). I do think I’ve got the basic ideas for what I want to do ready, which means I think I am ready to do some actual work.

Happy moanday. It’s cold, foggy and (did I mention?) Monday.

On the plus side: almost done with Agent Kallus for Star Wars Legion

Wednesday my dudes. Here’s me talking to the void so we keep it simple and short? I’ll just go full promotion!

Andy from Heresy Miniatures has made a Kickstarter for a family of undead ghouls. 32GBP will get you a set of 12 ghouls in Siocast or 41GBP for the same set in resin.

Andy is shifting all his metal minis to plastic and resin because metal is just to expensive for him. In this KS he has a ton of options which are basically things you could get from his shop but at a very discounted price.

Also he’s gone out of his way to find ways and means to get things shipped to the EU without people having to pay way to much import taxes and fees etc.  Give it a look.
