    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Questions:

    • Have you been outside yet collecting some stuff for basing and building?
    • Are you planing for Christmas yet?

And now back to the show.

    • Not yet but I plan it every year and miss the proper window XD
    • Yes. I am anal like that. Plans within plans so all can go horribly wrong.

    Happy Friday.

My pledge is to finish painting a shadow knight and an ogre both from North Star for Rangers of Shadow Deep. I started the shadow knight this morning and he should be pretty quick to paint. I haven’t started on the ogre yet but I’m having a hobby hangout with friend tomorrow evening so I’ll get most of him painted then.

Have you been outside yet collecting some stuff for basing and building?

I don’t really do that as I’ve heard if the materials aren’t treated correctly it could go mouldy. Also I have way to many tufts from Army Painter and Gamer Grass.

Are you planing for Christmas yet?

In fact I’m just returned home with a Christmas present for my Mother. I like to get all presents in before the start of December.

I just updated my project with my latest model for 2022. My second bust, this time in even bigger scale. https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1706063/

This week’s pledge is to start planning the final entry for my 2022 bingo challenge. What I have in mind will take some preparation and probably quite a while to pull together.

    1. Have you been outside yet collecting some stuff for basing and building? – Nope
    2. Are you planning for Christmas yet? – Nope

Monday evening and my pledge is done. Had a lot of fun painting these two.

I’m not sure weather to keep the black background or use it for just up until halloween, I’m starting to like it.

Next up is some naughty imps from Northumbrian Tin Soldier and a couple of models from Oakbound Studios which I got today. Going to start cleaning them up and assembling them tomorrow.

BTW, this thread has been really quiet these last two or three weeks. Where has everyone gone?

I like the black background. Works good on colourful minis.

The thread is slow. I blame the 30 minute painting thread for stealing the thunder.

Or my questions aren’t provocative enough.

Or it’s just a general “forum fatigue” because people “need to be everywhere”. From Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Discord and the gods now what else. The internet is spread to far these days I find.

This thread gets “second wind”. All rules still apply. A semi fresh question:

    • Is the forum dead? Or are people just too busy with life? Is this the beginning of another “dark age”?

My answers, in a nutshell, to all those questions is: yes.

Forums haven’t been “hype” for a long time, the majority of the world seems to be on the brink of utter chaos (if you believe most media) and money is tight all around. At least for most of us.

    Stay sane, remain indoors.

It’s not dead but it’s certainly very quiet. I’m sure it dried up about a year or so ago as well. Hopefully they’ll be back.

I’ve prepped a few miniatures, ready to paint, two from Oakbound Studios, and the imps from Northumbrian Tin Soldier. Haven’t got around to painting them yet as I’ve been busy playing Rangers of Shadow Deep and Five Leagues From The Borderlands.

This is my first post on an [unofficial weekender] thread. So in answer to the question – not quite dead.  Perhaps the issue is that there are so many places to post about things now.  But joining in is fun so here I am.

And now to my pledge.  I want to finish my Rohan army.  I have been saving this weekend especially for this mini project to get my remaining LotR Rohan figures finished.  I did the riders a couple of years ago and have been wanting to get the foot figures done so that I can chalk off another force as “finished”.

    Quick stock take then:

I have 56 Riders and mounted characters who are painted.  Not entirely happy with the basing and may sort this out this weekend if there is time.
I want to paint the 53 foot.  Of which 7 are characters and there are also 2 standard bearers.  I’ve had a root through the bits box and there are another 3 unused or broken models that I can make into casualty markers.  The total to do is therefore 56. I like symmetry.

I do hope so too @demonsub

I think I saw a video by one of The Army Painter guys today stating “If you’re living in the northern hemisphere *now* ist the time to prime your models” and I do agree. If you don’t own an airbrush or some fume extractor *now* is the time to get your minis stash for the winter primed.

Perhaps the issue is that there are so many places to post about things now.

There is definitly truth in that @zoidpinhead (also welcome to the fun part of the internet). “Back in the day” we had maybe a homepage, a webring or a newsgroup. Later came forums (which I feel where the best part of it all) and then facepage with groups, twitter, instagram and all the “quickshots” what diluted the hobby space. If you want people to talk to about game A usually it’s now a facebook group and increasingly discord server. And it get’s hard to keep it all “in one place” to update.

    I like symmetry.

Me too. But be aware of the dangers of shields on models! @lloyd knows what I’m talking about… it’s a trap! XD Looking forward to your progress in the project system.

    > Have you been outside yet collecting some stuff for basing and building?

In the middle of the pandemic, I had to get more sand for basing. Except that a) it’s playground sand I use, b) I had a mask and old coat on, and c) thankfully, there were no kids or parents around to watch a man scoop up sand that kids were playing in. 😛

    > Are you planing for Christmas yet?

Well, the retailers certainly are! Noble Knight, Amazon, and Miniature Market have had sales, and it’s not even Halloween yet. Already dropped over $200 in games. Birthday is in two weeks, so anything I buy until then doesn’t get opened until that day. 😛 I read your posts on how expensive things are (and that includes KS games I’ll never get around to playing), so switch to retail sales for awhile. Tabletop Bellhop, at least in the USA is great for finding sales on Amazon. Saw some SW Legion and other SW miniatures with coupons…! : https://tabletopbellhop.com/

You could always say “I saw a dog poop here. I’m cleaning it up”

And shopping locally I find is always “better”. You have the box in hand and sometimes the thought of “is this really worth X amount of money?” is much easier to answer when the box weighs next to nothing 😉

This is where I was at first thing this morning.  Three colours are up with the leather primer, dwarf skintone and chainmail silver all in place.  I suppose I’d better put some green on as well though.
