### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- Have you bought any miniatures yet?
And now back to the show.
January 3, 2026 at 4:25 pm #1957427Pledge: To do hobby! Hah, that was easy!
Answer: No. Not that I know of.
Music:
And now to contemplate on the personal question: do I paint build and primed models or do I build even more minis? XD
January 3, 2026 at 5:55 pm #1957428Pledge: Ditto on the hobby.
Answer: Maybe… I placed an order with Etsy on December 25th and it’s due for delivery tomorrow… so I spent last year and delivered this year… so I’m going with maybe!
January 3, 2026 at 6:17 pm #1957429// Have you bought any miniatures yet?
nope … but I’m pretty sure there is some starwars crisis protocol in my future.
I’m trying to focus on my hobby room, but keep getting distracted / stuck in the design phase.
I really thought I could get something done these past two weeks, but my body wouldn’t let me and my mind was weak.January 3, 2026 at 6:51 pm #1957432I ordered some Dead Man’s Hand stuff on Boxing Day that hasn’t arrived yet, does that count?
January 3, 2026 at 6:56 pm #1957443No, things you ordered/backed in 2025 do not count as “bought in 2026”. They are just delivered.
My two cents 😉
January 3, 2026 at 10:10 pm #1957456Pledge: Get some hobby done, what little hobby I did in 2025 I really enjoyed, I played quite a few games and attented lots of events and those where the memorably hobby experience, more than average but got very little hobby done comparatively. I want to rekindle some of my ongoing projects and get them “finished” to a playable state so that I can use them for more games. I very much cemented my love of Naval wargaming so I want to make that a big feature of 2026, I also love Space Wierdos, and I really want to get my long standing 40k Space Wierdos project to a playable state, and begin a mini Inquisitor style ongoing rpg/wargame.
Question of the Week: No I have not bought any miniatures yet, those a order from Waaaaahlaaards Christmas sale arrived in the new year. I suspect I’ll last until mid next week when I visit the Office and nearby wargaming stores for “supplies” which we all know means a bottle of paint plus a pack of minis 😀

January 3, 2026 at 10:43 pm #1957489Pledge: back to the Harlequins commission!
Minis: I did! Pre-ordered the Chaos Dwarf new box, Festus the Leechlord, and Nurgle dice. All supposed to be for Sigmar, but I’ll use them for Old World.
January 3, 2026 at 11:16 pm #1957521Pledge: Get some more Fomorians finished and get some Krieg put together.
Answer: Yes. I ordered the last copy I could find online of the Death Korps Combat Patrol this morning to go with the bigger box I got for Christmas. I’m glad the ruling is that stuff ordered last year for delivery this year doesn’t count as I’ve got a Foundry order coming (for Warriors of Athena). Also if last year doesn’t count then 2023 definitely doesn’t as the long delayed WA Blood Pact / The Damned are also due at some point very soon (please WA, you are over 18 months late already). Nobody knows about those though, so I think I’ve got away with it, phew!
January 4, 2026 at 12:02 am #1957523Pledge: get the hobby room into a useable state again. It served as santas storage prior to Christmas and he and the elves are sloppy bastards, left it a right mess!
Answer: do we count recurring patreon subs for 3D models as ‘buying miniatures’? If not, then no. If yes then far more than I’m likely to paint this month, or most months really…

January 4, 2026 at 10:00 am #1957574Technically patreon creators don’t sell you stuff. You give them money to exists and do what they do and in return they gift you stuff in the form of ones and zeros. So I’d say “patreon is not buying”.
Sunday.
No XLBS.
Back to work tomorrow.
*sigh*
January 4, 2026 at 12:54 pm #1957609oh … I kind of keep ‘forgetting’ that I got the mantic subscription.
Is this the year I buy a 3D printer ?
Maybe … but I shall resist even though those Bambu Labs printers do look sexy. And yes .. back to work tomorrow too.
If the snow had started two weeks earlier we would have had a white christmas.
January 4, 2026 at 1:28 pm #1957610I’m happy to go with that definition, I want to avoid new models for the first half of the year at least. 1s and 0s can be safely ignored!
Yes the bambu labs machines are a dream, particularly for terrain.
Personally as I work from home I’m more excited by the prospect that my kids are back to school tomorrow so there’s a chance for a peaceful cup of tea
January 4, 2026 at 2:43 pm #1957623I’ve added my recent experiments / scribbling / prototyping ideas to my warroom project.
That should keep them somewhat safe, because I’ve noticed that LLM’s like Gemini and Claude.AI tend to make it tricky to retrieve any documents they have created. It’s a bit like talking on discord, because the data these thing generate tends to evaporate the longer a conversation lasts.
Some may say that this happens because the ‘free’ versions have limited storage capacity, but I think it is part of the design as well. These things work best when there is a limited scope as any long conversations expose their alzheimer like tendencies and increases the chances of hallucinations f*cking up your results (which is what happened almost every time I’ve used them).January 5, 2026 at 7:32 am #1957802Never trust an LLM!
Monday morning. And not wanting to scare anybody but I did some mini painting yesterday. Shocking, I know!
