Holding out for a hero
Holding Out For Hero
Rambo is all done…..I’ve used mostly Speed paints with added highlights using regular acrylic. The priming stage was Colourforge Raven Black followed by airbrushing white to get the zenith from above. Once it’s all dry I dilute 1 part Army painter Dark Tone To 5 parts AK Interactive glaze and wash medium which puts all the subtle shading back the white covers this also tints the mini slightly and gives good outlining. Once dry a light drybush of pure white lifts the detail. This is my preferred method and gives nice results as shown below with a few examples.
Arnie as Terminator up next.
I picked out some Speedpaints following a quick look at some movie footage to get a good look at the actual colours. Stage 1 colouring in with the Base Colours.
Stage 2. Highlighting mostly with Daler Rowney FW ink mixed with the chosen colour
Grimm Black for the weapons
Black Legion (Contrast Paint) for the jacket, gloves, glasses and boots.
Occultist Cloak for the pants with a thinned layer 3:1 of speedpaint medium to Camo Cloak to over top to tint green.
Sachel Brown for the Hair.
Peachy Flesh for the skin
Robocop all done. For this miniature I wanted to have that blue and purple look on the armour, for this I used a thin coat of Caribbean Ocean one part to 4 parts medium. I then used Purple Swarm carefully to add interest while looking at Reference pictures. When adding the purple I use a small amount of medium to the area first and when going in with the purple feather the paint into the medium, this avoids harsh lines when dry. Purple Alchemy was used for the very peak of the purples for a pop. Grimm black was used for all the dark areas, highlighted in increments with ivory by Vallejo. Burnt Moss was used for the road textured base. I did try a few white lines but they distracted from the model so I remove them. The result looks very nice at a distance so pleased with the end result.
Rippley now looking good to go. The miniature had a casting fault line down one side of the face that I couldn’t do much with using files and sanding. I tried paint mixed with a little varnish which is thick and gloopy, it settled on the fault blending it away nicely.
Pictured are the main Speedpaints I’ve used. I did use a few regular acrylics to highlight certain parts like the weapon. The eyes took me around 6 attempts to get them equal and looking ok. I already had the base painted from a Necromunda gang project I did years ago, as I often do extras when batch painting for future use.
I just have to give all the heroes one last look over then varnish them.
final post pictures to follow.
