I was thinking that if I wanted a space battle game I would have to choose between the various things coming out. But this sounds such a different prospect from the rest that its almost an entirely different genre of game.

OMG Dave, what have you done! That ship is unbelieveable! The amount of work you put into that is staggering and so is the end result. My jaw literally dropped when I got the true scale of it (i.e. when Warren stood be3side it and it made HIM look small). Major Kudos mate, you are now oficially elevated to the status of Demi-God.
The new ship game looks fantastic as well – adds another layer to the already brilliant Dropzone universe. Can’t wait to see it!
Was a little concerned about Hawk entering the space battles market given there’s an obvious elephant in the room as well as some other popular ones.
Dave’s not disappointed though by making the setting so specific and different to what all the others are doing. Sounds like you might be able to blow up pages from an atlas and play over them.
Hope it’s not all metal, was my only issue with Battlefleet Gothic, I imagine the final production ones will be resin though.

Big spaceships winning Salute so far. Halo, Full thrust BSG game and Hawk’s Avenger all pretty cool. Hawks ship models (both scales) look great but the rules sound totally fantastic, a more ‘realistic’ submariney (I invented a word!) take on the genre really really appeals to me. I’ll be looking forward to getting more info on this.

I saw the HUGE ship in your 2014 Salute coverage and it was awesome. The 2015 version of it it AWESOME-ER! The spaceship game looks really good, the detail on the ships is pretty impressive. Also, always fun to see Mr. Chambers! I once shook his hand some 15 years ago and I’ve never washed it since. True story (except for not washing my hand). He had more hair back then, but then so did I. Hmm…I don’t have a spaceship game yet. Perhaps it’s time to start saving up money for this game 😉

Was worried that with the likes of x-wing etc this game had been beaten to release and would be unable to differentiate itself. I should never have had a doubt that Hawk would come up with something different, can’t wait to see how it all plays.
what we need now is for hawk to release a 28mm skimmish game for the troops fighting it out in the buildings and holding those objectives.

As many others here have mentioned, it’s nice to see a space combat game focusing on orbital engagements and taking into account stealth in space.
I’m really looking forward to this game now, let’s hope they take the time to make sure it’s properly balanced and well-written at release.
The next major question I have about this game: is it gonna be metal, like most of DZC, or plastic like the new starter stuff?

The spaceship game sounds really interesting, I cant think of any other game out there that is basically about fighting a planetary assault.. outstanding idea. Not only does it give a reason why the loosing fleet wouldn’t just jump away it also adds the opportunity for some really awesome boards to play on. I am going to be keeping an eye on this one.

The detail on those miniatures is absolutely astounding. I was thinking about getting into Spartans Halo game, but now I think I’ll wait for this.
Already a big fan of DzC but this looks amazing. The models are genuinely beautiful with an insane amount of detail. I really loved hearing about some of the rules; varying ranges due to scanners and such, three different levels of atmosphere and winning by dropping troops planetside. I’m sold.
I absolutely love spaceships and space ship games. This must be the golden age…I am blown away by the variable range electronic warfare mechanic mentioned! Looking forward to this immensely!

You know your eyes are going bad when you realize you can’t see the comment quote bubble for the post. Anyway, I just wanted to mention (in the third posting location) that Warren has convinced me to put “Dropship Commander” on my must buy list. Really enjoying DzC, and I hope Hawk publishes a linkable starter set so I can stack a couple game tables to play DsC and DzC together at the same time.
I remember seeing this last just in plan I don’t think even undercoat white and thought it looked awesome but now just wow the lights the paint job just stunning.

Really like this approach, and tie in! And the ranges/ecm makes it sound like you’ll be playing a David weber invasion of a planet….in other words really really cool. Video makes it hard to see details, but can’t wait to see close ups of the models. Besides…spaceships and Andy …..it’s all we need to know that we want it!

So, I’m fairly new to wargaming. Stumbled across W40k when I was 15, and loved the IP. The only problem was I couldn’t afford it. Spin forward 19 yrs and found 40k again. Played for (approx) a year and then found I stalled a bit with the direction GW we’re taking the game in. Then in January 2015, a friend of mine picked up the 2 player starter set for DzC. It is amazing. The content of the starter set, the intuitive nature of the rules and the immense detail of the minis had me hooked straight away. I have now picked up my own 2 player starter set and am looking to expand my burgeoning scourge army(my friend had chosen UCM).
Just from the video, you can tell that dropfleet commander(is that it’s actual name?) is going to be not only new, but fresh. If Dave approaches this with the same determination, dedication and attention to detail as he did with DzC, this will be spectacular. Cannot wait for it, and I absolutely WILL be picking it up as soon as it hits the shelves.

DzC is such a fantastic game. Nothing really covers the manouvre nature of modern warfare so well. O have auch high hopes for this and look forward to getting into this. Dave and Simon have done a great job! Roll on sensor pinging the enemy for hostile forces.

I can honestly say, the video really doesn’t do the Avenger justice. The detail on it is insane, and to top it the orbital game is sounding really cool too, with it’s submarine combat style feel – trying to actively scan the enemies vessels to create energy spikes (well that’s what sprang to my mind.)

I have been interested in Dropzone Commander for a while, and have been giving serious consideration to jumping in, but I really think that it is Dropfleet Commander that will push me over the edge – those ship designs are things of awesome sci fi beauty, and the rules sound incredibly tactical and interesting. Add in the ability to preside over an orbital drop, and combine the two games to both land forces and them wage a surface battle with full orbital support options – it is a wargaming dream come true.
And that 10mm scale Avenger model is almost obscenely pretty…

The highlight of the show for me hands down. Can’t emphasise enough how good those ships looked in the flesh. The detail density is just fantastic!
If there was an award for who “won” salute, it would have to be Hawk. Their display board was an incredible look at Scourge vs Resistance and that ship was stunning. The detail with all the UCM condors and the the secret Seraphim was the highlight of the day for me.
Seems like a fascinating ruleset!
My word that looks like an amazing game.. Drop zone looked awesome enough but the spare battles concept and mechanics really are quite amazing..

It sounds like the intentional is to have the two games link up, so you can have orbital and ground battles both to effect the eventual outcome.

At first I thought, another spaceship game. Now I think, cool, a real space ship game! The mechanics sound awesome and the minis are gorgeous as you’d expect.
Hawk were lovely, friendly and happy to talk all day, plus that ship! I couldn’t believe just how much effort had gone into it, what an accomplishment!
A spaceship game that actually effects what is happening on the ground EPIC lol. Great idea and I love the look of the ships. Very different then anything out there.

Finally caved at the Hawk stand today and bought a starter box. Just take my damn money!
The ships… look beyond amazing which is both expected (Hawk has an incredible vision and attention to detail) and unexpected (because at some point you think they simply can’t outdo their previous work, then they do). Not normally massively into the spaceship genre but this, this I am looking forward to.
missed out on a demo game unfortunaely but had to pick up the two player starter box as a result of the special BoW weekend event and live blog. hope to get it put together and get some games in soon.

A little bird told me I’ll be getting Dropzone Commander for my birthday in May. The assault ship would make a nice addition to my upcoming UCM models.
A nice twist on the swarm of spaceship games that are out on the morning. Nice that it will tie in so smoothly with DzC. That model is just amazing, how could I forget

I’ve been avoiding Dropzone Commander due to “too many games”, but the orbital space game looks really good dammit.
This was a popular stand so I didn’t get see as much as I wanted to. It looked awesome though.
Wow! That’s all I can say about this game. The models look amazing and the game sounds utterly stellar. And Andy Chambers. It’s gonna be a a long wait for this one to come out but totally worth it.
Also I like how the lady at 2:05 in the video looks at Dave as if he’s completely mad, shakes her head and walks off. LOL. Mad genius maybe. Definite winner in my book.
Once again pure excellence, as someone who has been with Hawk from the start you continue to leave the competitors gasping in the dust. Well done.

And there I am video bombing with my enormous backpack in the background (3:07 ish). Only stuff I picked up this year was from Hawk, mainly down to massive indecision on my part it has to be said.
BFG was so much fun, but without direct support by GW getting the correct ruling for something, or anything really, was very tough.

Aw god… Spaceship games are my kryptonite. Looks like I’ll be dropping a tonne of cash on this when it arrives. Plus the Halo game. Plus Imperial Armada. Along with the games I already play – Firestorm Armada, X-Wing, BFG…

That is so clever of Warhawk to base this game in orbital range.
as each game will spur on the sales of other system you will be running the orbital battle game as you ships rain down drop forces and ordnance to planet surface at the same time you will be running a DZC game as forces drop in and what is going on is effected by what goes on in orbit and what is raining down as well as DZC forces use orbital defense cannons and weapon systems so these effect what is going on in orbit. Also could include constantly expanding battles of DZC as you have a never ending supply of reinforcements dropping in.
Then once these 2 are established it allows you to do a big ship deep space fleet game that can effect what is going on in orbit and on planet surface as well as these 2 can effect deep space game .
So that means the first 2 games will spur sales in third and the 3rd will again boost sales in the first 2 games.

That display model is amazing, nice to see a company doing stuff for sheer love of the hobby and product. The Halo game caught my attention from @stvitusdancern‘s coverage but rules for this sound far more intriguing. Could be a real toss up between which to get – sadly both won’t be an option. Then part of me also says Armada is in the same category – fantastic reflection on strength of the industry but rough on the poor hobby butterflies like me
I’ve been looking for something in this scale to play and replace those great memories of BFG looks like I just found it.

Saturday 24th April I proudly gave my daughters hand in marriage, a fantastic, joyous event that will live in my heart. Missing Salute for the first time in many decades was trivial to such an event.
But a unique miniature to start a new gaming experience would be very nice!!

Wow, I have been tempted by DZC for some time and seeing what they have planned for their orbital game it is time I started. If the children hadn’t already drained my cash on the day I would have been walking home from Salute with loads of DZC stuff, will have to order online now when replenished!

It was great to see the large ship completed after seeing it partially complete last year. Treated myself to some of the Resistance stuff, Can’t wait to see the new game, Hawk continue to go from strength to strength.
The Avenger was so awesome. And the rules sound really promising. I am really looking forward to this!

I took quite few photo’s of the giant miniature (bigature?) frigate, bloody incredible detail.

That ship has blown my mind. Love the sound of a space game in and around orbit, and being able to link the scales of the two systems in my head makes it feel ‘realistic’ to me in a way. Cant wait for this!

There’s been a resurgence of interest in Firestorm Armada at my FLGS, and folks are wondering if Dropfleet will be able to carve out a piece of the available hobby time and space. From the sounds of it, the answer is “Yes!”, as its a very different approach to a “spaceship battle” than what’s out there at the moment, or what’s on the horizon.
Really looking forward to running demo games of DfC!!!

Wow I’m from Australia and when you see something as brilliant as what the dropfleet is already I’m really tempted to jump on a plane and camp out in front of hawk HQ chanting the now famous chant from warzan ” WE WANT IT NOWWW, WE WANT IT NOW TAKE MY MONEY CAUSE I WANT IT NOW ” until they just sell it to us lol.

This orbital battle idea is a really interesting way of giving a spaceship game a purpose other than just blowing ‘stuff’ up. What little could be seen of the minis was very appealing too. I think my BFG days may be numbered.

Dave has absolutly outdone himself with this ship. It´s amazing. And even a big shiny “statcard” to go with it. I have seen the ship have done and unpainted in Essen last year, and it was amazing already. This is a Million times better.

At first I thought that the giant ship display was going to be the only thing of interest and while it was indeed fricking awesome (the backlit print with the schematic really helped finish it off) I was surprised at how much I liked the actual ships. There were several fleet scale games on display at Salute but it was Hawk’s ships I liked the most. I guess I like my capital ships curvy!
Never mind winning the little model. I want the big one!

I fell in love with that ship, that thing is an amazing piece of art! The idea of the orbital game that ties in with dropzone is a really well done idea. I can think of a ton of different things you can do with that while running a campaign.
