In my opinion, you can’t Assault out of a Drop Pod even if you have Heroic Intervention Darrell! It specifically says under the Drop Pod Assault Special Rule that, and I quote, “A unit that Deep Strikes via a Drop Pod cannot assault in the turn it arrives.” So in my opinion, not even Heroic Intervention will allow you to assault out of the Drop Pod on the Turn it arrives,
I thought that was the point of such special rules though.
But Heroic Intervention is in a codex and drop pod rules are in the brb..so codex rules overrule brb rules.
Heroic intervention only applies when using jump packs not drop pods though so it’s a moot point. Only the silly FW pod lets you assault out of them as far as I know
What’s an FW pod? (sorry I’m really new to this)
Forge World do a drop pod called the Lucius pattern assault pod, it allows dreadnoughts to assault out of it which is just plain FUBAR’ed when it comes to furioso’s
the Drop Pod rules for Blood Angels are in the Blood Angels Codex. So what overrules what for Blood Angels: Heroic Intervention or Drop Pod Assault????
Nothing overrides anything. Heroic intervention only works when deploying with jump packs, not if you stick them in a pod. Drop Pods use the Drop Pod assault rules that say no assaulting
Heroic intervention specifies that you must be deepstriking via jump packs to use it…
As the rule for Heroic Intervention is in the Codex for the Blood Angels, it takes priority over what the 40k Rulebook states. I feel your pain, but your pain is my pleasure <3
Dropping Dreads are just a waste of points, dropping a combatsquad with a melta, combi-melta (or plasma instead of melta) can well be worth it 🙂
Also thinking about dropping a commandsquad of with 4 meltas/plasmas, maybe not the best, but should be fun 🙂
Now the “Forgeworld” lucius pattern assault droppod for dreads is the answer. If they sell enough of them maybe they will get into the core rules.
I absolutely love droppods in objective based missions. I tend to use them to block off passages, force my opponent to turn back and take care of whatever I dropped behind them or funnel larger amounts of troops through a corridor so I can more easily anticipate their next move.
Saying you should always just take a rhino instead of a droppod is just bollocks. To my experience there is a huge merit in dropping ironclads in droppods to slow down an advance.
Yer, but that’s the same as saying’ “well you carnt not use a Carnifex just because the trygon is better!” Yes granted, sometimes the droppod/Carnifex can be better, but most of time the Rhino/Trygon is better. and am a strong believer in not building list’s to fit your opponent. to make it fair for people with smaller collections and in the logic of i cant change my list in the middle of a tournament! And dude if your playing on a board that has passages to objectives that are soo small that a droppod will block it ….. =/ seems… Read more »
Our tournaments tend to make good use of a versatile terrain set-up. There may well be as little as a droppod worth of space between difficult terrain and a building. I don’t see why that should be an issue. it’s not like this is ever the only way to get to to the objective, there’s always the long way round which you want em to take. Try using more terrain for the fun of advanced tactics. I build my list to enjoy the game. No-one is allowed to change a list during the tournament. I just love playing with droppods… Read more »
The only way to assault out of a Drop Pod is, as has already been stated, by buying and using the ‘Lucius’ pattern from Forge World. It specifically states in the rules that you cannot assault from a Drop Pod so I really don’t see the need to even ask the question.
