Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Come To Kickstarter
January 20, 2019 by cassn
Cowabunga dudes! Late last year we announced that IDW Games were working on two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles miniature games. Now, TMNT: City Fall and TMNT: Change Is Constant have arrived on Kickstarter, and they're totally bodacious, man.
The games are standalone games, but they are also compatible with each other and together have over 100 miniatures and over 30 scenarios. The games allow you to play competitively or co-operatively (thanks to an AI villain system).
There's also the option to add on several extra boxes, such as the Deviations box which contains the corrupted turtles, the Villian Upgrade box, which allows you to control your favourite villains from the series, and the Stan Sakai box which has Usagi Yojimbo!
The Kickstarter campaign is already fully funded, and is currently unlocking some really cool stretch goals, so get over to Kickstarter and kick some shell!
Pizza anyone?
"Totally bodacious, man!"

Didn’t they do a turtles game a coupe of years ago?
And that’s an expensive buy in for the base game, not to mention the all in.
Getting tired of these expensive ks games.
Yes, this is basically the sequel to the Turtles game that is currently available.
This set introduces full coop mode (the previous version is only playable as One v all).
I haven’t played that game, but the reviews were more positive than negative. There was an issue that the minis scale was kind of wonky. This was true of other Kickstarters from that era, so hopefully IDW have figured it out.
As for expensive- yeah. I think the sweet spot for a KS is $100, but I can entertain a $250-300 for “all in.” Still, if I love the game enough, I’d go ahead and jump in for more.
They are presenting two separate core boxes (and $125 is easier to swallow). It seems that the turtles are all in one set, while the more popular villains are in the other.
That’s the problem. Who is going to buy the box with no turtles? And the other box has less well known villains.
I resisted first IDW game, so their attempts to coerce me into the all in will fail, which is good, as I’m trying not to buy games this year…
But with the FFG Journey of LotR I think I may fail on that…
However, I’m hoping to stay away from KS at least (got sick of endless delays and often by time I get the game… I’m bored of the idea), so hopefully the rest of KS for 2019 will overpriced to discourage me.
What is this ugly style and all those even uglier furries? Where’s Shredder and the Foot clan? No Brainiac, April either? Nah, thanks.
Shredder, the Foot and April as well as Bebob and Rocksteady are in the other core box (City Fall), the contents of which aren’t shown in the image above.
I was looking at that, hard. I looked again. If you say it’s supposed to be them I believe you but I’ll stick to my ‘nah, thanks’, this is ugly as hell.
I think you mean Krang. Brainiac is DC.
I suspect they’ll add in Krang at some point. That’s one of the troubles with a KS like this where we all know the property- holding back something cool for late in the campaign sometimes makes it look like something important is missing up front.
The turtle’s an the stockman fly figure’s look great.
I’d like to know how (if?) this fits in with the TMNT game they did a couple of years ago. I backed it, but like so many other Kickstarters, it’s yet to be taken out and played… Are these two games intended to replace the one I’ve already got? Of not, what’s the difference?
Ah, I should have looked at the FAQ on the Kickstarter page:
I own Shadows of the Past, what’s the difference with these games?
Change is Constant and City Fall are both considered stand alone sequels to Shadows of the Past. Here’s what’s new for you in these games:
-All sculpts are brand new, and correctly scaled
-Both games feature a fully co-op mode. No one has to play as the bad guys.
-16 new missions in each game.
-Change is Constant features new villains: Baxter Stockman, (re-tooled) mousers, and the Mega Mouser.
-Change is Constant introduces Small minions, the Mousers, which can actually fit 3 in a space. Making them more deadly as they bunch up and act like a advancing swarm.
-Change is Constant also introduces large minions, the Mega Mouser, that take up multiple spaces and act as blocking terrain.
-City Fall has 3 new heroes: Slash, Old Hob, and Angel. Each hero has their own set of 3 unique hero dice, a Hero Sheet, and Ability cards.
-City fall introduces new villains: Hun and Chunin (Dark Leo), and the Purple Dragons gang.
– Each game has 8 double-sided map tiles instead of 6, and each map features all new art.
The Kickstarter Exclusive add-ons like the Sakai and Deviation boxes, both have an MSRP of $25, but are FREE with your pledge of any single game, as well as their bonus figure. With the All The Loot pledge, you’re getting 3 free expansion, and 3 bonus figures, with your pledge before we unlock any stretch goals.
Great to hear that they’re fixing the scale issues.
Way too expensive and it seems like they’ve totally turned their back on the backers and retail purchasers of their first failed attempt at a turtles game.
When will companies learn not to screw their supporters and when will people learn not to support companies that screw their supporters. Surprised this hit the initial goal tbh.
Huh? I mean, this is backwards compatible (you can use the new rules to play the old Turtles game as Co-op).
The reviews for the game have been more positive than negative, so I don’t really see why people who already have the original would hate to have some standalone expansions. It is like Zombicide, isn’t it?
Nostalgia is not enough to move me.. nostalgia is not enough to move me…I will not buy this for the minis. I will not buy it for the minis.
Are all the good miniature sculptors on a mission in space right now?
Those look really good.
What, no Vam-Mi? Gotta add my fave Turtles villain.
