Star Wars: Legion Weekend Completed! (plus some prizes)

That’s it for a glorious weekend of hobbying friends. We’ve had a great time in the studio spending time with our community members and hearing from you at home. For five lucky hobbyists here we have some prizes to reward some of the stand out moments for the weekend from teaching people to play games to just been the loveliest people to be around.

It’s been a packed weekend where we have talked about 3D printing and the benefits between FDM and resin 3D printers for terrain and models. We’ve filmed a few tutorials talking about airbrushing. We’ve had livestreams where we painting U-Wings, constructed bases for Ewoks and assembled buildings. We hope you’ve enjoyed all of our content which you can find on the liveblog!

Finally a big thanks from everyone on the team for tuning in, whether it was commenting on the live blog, taking part with your own Star Wars: Legion projects at home or joining us on our livestreams. Hope you all enjoy the new Star Wars movie (and the new episode of The Mandalorian).

May the force be with you!

Creating The Perfect Scenario For Our Gaming Tables

Two of our hobbyists have been setting up a very interesting looking game on our Skellig table.

Dan and Nick are chomping at the bit to throw their armies out on the table but they’ve also constructed a really cool scenario for the table which involves capturing the central bridge. The Imperial side has a few manoeuvrable units that can cross the river in the centre so it will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

Opening Our Hobby Advent Calendar

One of our fabulous community members – blinky465 – sent us a handmade advent calendar with a miniature behind each door. Having been eejits with a bit too much drink in us we forgot to open it on our XLBS stream last night.

So without further ado we open doors 14 and 15 of blinky’s wonderful advent calendar!

We’ve got a couple of pictures of Josh’s army who we’ve featured throughout the weekend for his marvellous base toppers.

Here we can see his battle droids in full splendour atop these very stylish bases made from milliput and plasticine. You can check out our videos earlier on in the live blog to find out exactly how (spoiler alert: it involves a pasta maker)

Figuring Out Rules For Our 3D Printed Ewok Force

Warren and Gerry sit down to talk about the 3D printed Ewok force and the rules that Gerry has been coming up for them.

The regular Ewok force can be found in little squadrons of three for that beautiful swarm effect. There are also gliders to drop rocks on AT-STs.

Somebody Painted Their Freakin Baby Yoda!

Cuteness personified. Eater of frogs. Leader of the free worlds. Baby Yoda has come to stand for all that is good and holy in this world despite all that might drag us down. Of the figures who have united us this year (like the goose) one slightly tip toes above the rest.

Having given out baby Yoda figures last night to attendees someone has gone and painted him up. Adorable! However, our attendees have been doing loads of other hobby work that deserves recognition!

Join Justin For His Sunday Morning Build Stream

The people have decided!! Justin will now build the hanger on stream. And if time permits he will also blast through the guild hall.

You can join the stream to encourage the egg at your leisure. What kind of game would you love to see the hanger in? Would you use it as a location for objectives? Or would you subvert the build and blast a hole through the side so it becomes an epic set piece for your army to roll through?

A Real Stand Out Group Of Rebels

Tony has been quietly industrious in a corner of the hobby hall and produced a beautiful collection of Rebel Alliance figures.

In a gorgeous forest green they’d be right at home on Endor provoking the imperial pigdogs of the empire. Having finished his rebel force he’s now moving on to his Imperial army which we’re looking forward to seeing tomorrow!

Some Quiet Time For Warren & Gerry To Paint The Thala-Siren

Thankfully the butterfly hobbyist within Warren has settled down enough to continue work on the beautiful Thala-Siren model made for us by John Haywood of Hayland Terrain.

Using a combination of sprays and water to reactivate the paints and guide it into the crevices of the mini it has turned into a quick paint job but a striking figure altogether.

Airbrush Master Dan Continues Work On His Downed AT-ST

Dan has continued work on his lovely downed AT-ST model.

Fresh from his airbrush masterclass from Jedi Master John, Dan has started laying out the base work on his model with reds and yellows combining to lovely effect. Hopefully John will have this rolling out on our Geonosis table tomorrow for a game or two.

You Decide What Justin Builds Tomorrow On Stream

Justin has so far put together two of the buildings from the Knights of Dice but he doesn’t know which one to start off with on stream tomorrow morning.

There are a couple sheds but the real interest is between the hanger and the guild hall buildings. Let us know down in the comments which you think he should build first!

The Results of John's U-Wing Painting Stream

John locked himself in a room with some paints and a U-Wing: the result is pretty impressive.

On our livestream today John was joined by fine folks all across the interwebs to share in his hobby time. Having completed the model to his satisfaction, Warren stepped in and added a few more steps to proceedings with some great weathering to the model.

This won’t be the last time you see this U-Wing as there might be some more steps to apply tomorrow!

How Would You Paint The Thala Siren From Episode VIII?

The secret 3D printing job that Justin undertook last night has born fruit – milky green fruit!

The Thala Siren from Episode VIII is something that Warren has been quite keen to get his hands on. And if we can get him to stick to the one project we might just see it completed this weekend. For now the plan is to give it a zenith spray and plan from there. This is a model very kindly made by John Haywood of Hayland Terrain.

Assembling Some Knights of Dice Terrain

Justin has taken it upon himself this weekend to assemble some mighty fine terrain.

Knights & Dice have sent terrain all the way over from Australia and Justin is sitting down to put it together. there is a hanger bay reminiscent of the one which held the Millennium Falcon in episode IV and a couple of other buildings that would fit right in to the Star Wars universe.

3D Printing The Mandalorian!

Josh has brought along with him a very fine bounty indeed: the Mandalorian!

Cooked up in the foundries of the Imperial Terrain Commission and Skullforge Studios, Justin shows Josh how you go about using a Resin Printer. From start to finish Josh is shown through the process and why it might be more advantageous to use a resin printer than an FDM one for models.

War Has Finally Broken Out On Endor!

Those furry, forest brats couldn’t conceal their ill deeds any longer! The empire has descended to restore balance to the force on the forest moon of Endor.

Gerry has been introducing a couple of keen players to the rules of Star Wars: Legion and they’re starting to get their first game on the tabletop. It’s empire versus the rebel alliance in this tale as old as time!

The Student Has Become The Master of Airbrushing

Now Dan is the master! Showing just how intuitive airbrushes can be Dan has jumped at any model he can get his hands on to practice.

Having honed the technique on the downed AT-ST, Dan swiftly went on to paint his healthier model and was so enthused about the process and the instant gratification that comes from airbrushes, he moved on to some of his friends’ models! That’s another convert to the ways of the airbrush!

Join Us For A Saturday Livestream Where John Paints A U-Wing

Join us for another livestream at OnTableTop HQ where we take a tour of the hall on this fine Saturday of hobbying.

After catching up with our keen hobbyists, we dive in to the cage with John where he is going to run through a tutorial of painting a U-Wing? What’s a U-Wing you ask? It’s like a U boat but in a galaxy far far away…

How To Make Delicious Base Toppers With A Pasta Maker

What do pasta makers and wargaming bases have in common? They both make delicious treats? Well, not quite.

Gerry returns to the industrious Josh to find out exactly how he is making his amazing base toppers. the secret sauce is actually a pasta maker. With a combination of milliput and plasticine, Josh has been feeding it through the pasta maker then putting a textured rolling pin over the top to get some amazing details.

Guiding Young Padawans In The Ways Of The Airbrush

Guided will young padawan Dan be in the ways of the airbrush. Master John shows him the ways of the force.

Dan has an AT-ST model that he would love to use an airbrush on. But there’s also a downed At-ST for him to practice on. So John talks him through the steps of transitioning with aerosol primers to airbrushing techniques.

I watched part 3 today. There are so many different sceneries on different planets in the order 66 sequence. So there are a lot of ways to tell the story
