Guild Ball Week: Faction Guide – Mortician’s Guild
April 27, 2017 by dignity
For this Guild Ball video, we take a look at the morally dubious Mortician's Guild. A Guild that the other teams hate to play against as they're likely to mess with their minds
Watch Guild Ball Week
A team for seasoned Guild Ball players, the Morticians’ have a lot of influence at their disposal which can be put to good use. For example, how about tricking your opponents into passing the ball back to you!
Plus we find out how a character uses fifteen dice in the game and uncover a bit more background too.
Prizes To Be Won
During this week you could win One of Three Copies of the Guild Ball Kick Off! Starter Set as seen in our Kick Off! Demo Game.
All you’re going to need to do is comment on the videos this week across Facebook, YouTube and Beasts Of War to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize.

I wonder what are the rules on weapons in Guildball are?
All weapons are already built into the models profile. In the in game lore the rule is basically, “Don’t kill anyone but you can leave them torn, beaten and bloody on the pitch”.
Bah forgot my Oxford comma make that, “…torn, beaten, and bloody…”.
(To the tune of the Adams Family Theme)
They’re creepy and their cookie
They manipulate, they’re spooky
The Morticians in the league
In the Guild Ball league
Haha these guys will be the death of you
they do it again,,,, more lovely figures to tempt me
Another faction with ‘drop dead’ gorgeous miniatures (pun intended). Sounds like a really fun faction to play as well.
They were. The guys failed to mention that the team just got a massive nerf in the latest edition of the rules. However, since Steamforge seems to be changing the rules every season it doesn’t surprise me. After 3 seasons of constant changes I doubt I will continue playing. Especially since the plastics in the starter box are only about 70% of the quality of their metal counterparts. Even co-creator Rich Loxam admitted that the plastics aren’t where they want them to be yet. Ditching perfectly good metals for cheaper plastics will probably be the nail in the coffin for Guildball as far as I’m concerned. Pun intended though.
I was under the impression that the only plastics were going to be the starter set and that all other releases were going to still be metal.
And I always hoped they would improve on the modelling front. Although I don’t mean the technical rendition but stylewise, i.e. really catching the spirit of the characters’ illustrations. It’s not (entirely) about the pose though but details and proportions, too. All of these creating a certain air about the characters. Of course, that’s only nagging me because I like many of the illustrations so much…
Ghast as they mentioned even in this video is a good example for these deviations. Or Obulous himself. Or Dirge.
@spaderfish they still are fun to play, they had a few bits not working as intended, and where altered as part of a whole game rebalancing. You only need to look at the unofficial rankings to see they are still doing fine in terms of power level as well. I like the fact Steamforge regularly (Not constantly – that would be at random intervals through out the year) check and amend balance, it keeps the game balanced and fresh.
Also you seem to be mis-quoting Rich, the only time he has mentioned 70% is when talking of the quality of the new teams coming in plastic, saying the Kick off box contents where only 70% of their quality as they were sculpted for metal. The farmers and new teams being the higher quality – not that there is anything particularly wrong with the kick off plastics. You only need to know how important the modelling/painting is to Matt Hart and see the results of the Farmers at Salute to know the quality is maintained.
If it’s not for you that is fine, but had to pick you up on some rather erroneous statements.
I have every single model for the Morticians Guild. It is my most loved team, have won many games with them, love all their tricks and manipulation tactics. Obulus is the best and my most favorite captain for them.
Mortician’s Guild looks like the one for me 🙂
This is the guild I started playing the game with and this is the guild I am still playing the game with, love them.
my favourite team so far 🙂
Rather macabre as you would expect
It was fun!
Love it, if you hit them it costs you points.
Cool team, I’d be tempted to pick up a couple of models just to use for necrmancers in other games…
This game has great themes, that seem to work well with the rules.
I like a lot about the Morticians. Think their group shot was the first thing I ever saw of Guild Ball.
Not so sure about this anti group attitude though.
Nor their play style. Control is fine but it seems to me you need to know a lot about each and every player in this game in general and with these guys even more so. Sounds stressful.
Yeah, they definitely aren’t a beginner faction.
Beautiful models! Very controling playstyle also :).
Really like the models and control strategy is good for my play style. I believe it will be either Hunters or Morticians for me.
nasty guild and they were the reason why i got another friend to play the game, he loves his evil .
I think cosset is a lovely one.
The Morticians … the only team I hold a 100% win record against …… (okay .. okay I have only played them once ….. and yes, maybe it was the young bloke’s first game …BUT 100%!!!!! ….. I’ll never be able to say that again)
Not my team. I am, however, a little scared to see how an experienced player could mess with me using these guys. We have one morti player locally, but he’s just getting into the game at this point.
So yeah.. I only have like 2 wins vs Morticians… so does that mean I should join them or just keep fighting them? lol..
Mortician’s guild looks pretty sweet. I really need to check out guild ball =)
Casket is coolest miniature on the team. He can actually put one of the opposing players team in the casket.
This guild is very cool and I like their play style.
Love the models in this faction, Dr Death & Bonesaw in particular
I expected them to be a little creepier…
They excel at control. I’ve played games were you’re just scrambling for what to do next because the Morticans player has given me nothing but bad options after completely destorying my plans for the turn.
Studio models look amazing…
As an Undead player this guild really fits my aesthetic – Loving the idea of controlling the enemy team through deception and laughing at my opponent as they injure my players!
Very nice minisin this faction.
Super creepy. Look complicated for sure.
Nice Video
This is probably my favourite overall guild, the tricksy, hard to play, harder to play against style seems really cool. Might take a few games to learn and many more to master but that no bad thing.
Plus they have my favourite model in the whole of guildball. Well it’s actually two models, Brainpan and Memory, but they only cost one. Between playing them and captain Obulus I think I could come up with some tactics that would be hard for any team to play against.
Love the miniatures, not so sure about the playstyle.
A very interesting team, but rather daunting. I may revisit them after playing for a few years.
I must admit being a little disappointed. I would have loved to see them as a team that everyone avoids and distrusts because they’re so creepy, thinking “Of course they’re the bad guys!”, only for us to find that they’re actually a bunch of lovely people 😉
i love these miniatures
The Morticians are a morbid looking team
I actually own most of these minis. Oh for the time to paint them!
The artwork of this guild (and specially Obulus) was the first thing that got me interested in this game at the time of the KS.
I’ve got a few Morticians minis and I always planned to use them when I finally make my great foray into GB.
Having discovered that they’re really not a newbie’s team, I think that I’d better pick up the starter game and start with Brewers or Masons.
I like the look of these models but dont think i would play the team
Interesting faction for sure but not my cup of tea
These may be interesting to play with
I would like to see how they play
Minis look great as they do with all the guilds but I don’t think this one is for me.
Is it wrong to want these just so I can paint them?
I’m playing the spooks since early season 2. I love their playstyle of influence and momentous controlling. AND they still do it with the nerfs and buffs in S3.
Have you played Brainpan and Memory, the S3 Player? They are great.
I think the playstyle is really interesting. Not too fond of the models, though. Some of those are just too.. flimsy, I think.
This is one of my favorite guilds
I am guessing, debuffs to movements, poisons- damage over time tar pit units and lots of snares
I love Corset and Casket.
Casket looks like a mix of DC Comics Lobo and the Protagonist from the PS2 game GunGrave .What an Awesome mix.
Awesome!
I’ve played twice against their season I captain, and they seems very centered on him. He does a lot of work, but his team feels a bit influence starved with him being fully loaded every turn.
The artwork for this faction is really gritty and beautifully executed. I’m not sure I definitely would get this faction, but would love to play against this faction for the tactical / strategic aspects they force you to think about. I think if you can resoundingly beat an experienced player running this team, you are probably getting very good at the game.
This is my current guild, love them.
I like the Morticians’ artwork more than some of the sculpts. Those static, menacing poses suite them very well.
Cool faction, but it seems hard to master their playstile
In the vain of Evil Dead… “ooooh, groovy!”
I really like the concept on these. I will definitely be buying into this game now.
Great looking miniatures and I’m also liking the back stories.
Those guys can be a pain in the backside
Hmmmm very cheeky play style! Interesting!
I am not sure if I like the style of this guild, but I still appreciate how well designed these factions are to give the Mortitians their own unique play style. The designers of this game have done a great job to create a good variety of factions as well as play styles.
nice minis
Some nice minis. But not sure that I like them as a full team.
These guys sound awesome! Please show a game with them.
I love this team. Great sculpts and interesting rules.
I think i’ve found my Guild. The mini’s are fantastic and the ascetic is really cool
Well maybe I get those again, was my faction from ks, but money issues made me imperative to 2nd hand it, so maybe someday I get the mm again
nasty looking team, and an annoying little bird
Lovely models – really torn between which faction to go for!
got to be my faction. great models & great demo games. thanks
