Hobday & Hicks Preview New Warhost Fantasy Dwarves
October 14, 2025 by brennon
Hobday & Hicks previewed another of the Fantasy forces joining the Warhost range in the near future. Forged in Stone and Honour, these new 28mm Dwarves will be marching to battle soon to take on the likes of the Orcs or perhaps even the Elves!
Dwarven Guildmasters Concepts by Marco Capparoni // Hobday & Hicks
As well as showcasing some of the wonderful concept art by Marco Capparoni, Hobday & Hicks also talked a bit more about the lore behind the Dwarves. Their society is governed by the Contract, which binds them all together and defines their way of life. They are also, as with most Dwarves, driven by pride and self-reliance.
They also live in the classic mountain halls and fortresses that you'd expect, resplendent with glowing forges, throngs of Dwarves wandering market halls showing off their wares and preparing for war.
Dwarven Warrior Concepts by Marco Capparoni // Hobday & Hicks
When it comes to war, their warriors march forward with shields at the fore, whilst spearmen brace to repel charges. You also have archers taking aim and picking off enemies from afar. The armour takes on a slightly more Eastern design, which I think is a nice point of difference.
As well as the ranks and ranks of warriors, you will also find their Earth Mages, who can draw power from the mountains around them. They fuse together magic with the power of the forges and are often found heading into battle alongside the intriguingly named Ironclad Mageguard, rune-bound animated constructs with molten cores.
New Dwarf Miniatures
As well as the nice concept art by Marco Capparoni, there have also been some miniatures previewed for the Dwarves, sculpted by Paul Hicks.
Dwarven Archers // Hobday & Hicks
Based on the concept art above, Hicks has managed to create another set of gorgeous and dynamic figures representing these Dwarves on the tabletop. They all have their own personality and character, something that Hicks is exceptional at working into his sculpts.
Dwarven Spearmen // Hobday & Hicks
This new range of Dwarves comes from the army lists and lore included as part of the Battle for the Bylands Campaign Book, which is already available. You'll be able to get your hands on around sixty miniatures covering your warriors, hunters, characters, mounted troops and something intriguing called the Guild Wagon!
Warhost Dwarf // Hobday & Hicks
The hope is that this selection of glorious Dwarves will be ready before the end of the year. I think this new range of Dwarves looks excellent and once again, my resolve is crumbling when it comes to diving into a new Fantasy project. Maybe now is the time to look at Warhost or Oathmark...
What do you make of these new Dwarf previews?

Those can’t be dwarves! They have knees!
they are historical scale dwarves, of course they have knees like all proper Demi-humens should!
Amazing! I shall be backing this I think. The only thing I don’t like is the shield – I just feel like a round shield would be a better match
These are absolutely lovely. I was trying to avoid getting a second Dwarf faction after I went all-in on the Ragnarok Dvergr but my resolution is crumbling. Rus themed Dwarves it will be.
Ooh a mix of Germanic and Slavic Eastern look works for me!
