Happy Sunday and Christmas Backstagers, CoGs and OTTers!
Happy Sunday and Merry Christmas!
@dignity at 27 minutes – I have to disagree and hope GW dont ever revive Battlefleet Gothic, it will just be set in the Horus Heresy and limited to imperial Navy and Space Marine ships.
The rules are free and the ships are all available for 3d printing. Long may that be the way!
@brennan at 42 minutes absolutely my number one wish! The pinup 3d printing campaigns have to go. I can’t believe how many of them there are now!
yeah, GW ‘reviving’ anything just means we get less content for more money.
Bloodbowl is probably the only exception, but that’s because the teams themselves are small so there is a limit to how much they can abuse it.
A battlefleet Gothic revival would find a way to not only parcel out the factions in separate codexes, but do the same for the various ship classes too. We can kind of see that in Necromunda & Killteam and how many rulebooks they managed to squeeze out of those games (until they had to reset and try again … ).
I’d rather have someone else create a space battle game in that scale. We’ve got Dropfleet, but there’s nothing else within the same concept (AFAIK).
‘AI’ as a force multiplier is a bigger threat to the status quo within the creative industry as a whole than we can even begin to imagine. The tools are out there to generated images, videos and music.
And as Gerry points out actual creatives can’t win against companies that will simply dump a lot of half-baked generated content at ridiculously low prices. Sites like Reddit and Deviant Art are already getting swamped with ‘AI’ generated nontent.
(It may even start to threaten GW … but maybe they are already embracing ‘AI’ as they certainly had no moral qualms about removing artist names. Don’t be surprised if new GW books will feature ‘AI’ art all the way through.)
On a more positive note. These ‘AI’ tools can assist folk in getting their vision out there as well. The downside is that it creates even less work for artists as ‘AI’ slop will be cheaper. It is a race to the bottom and it sucks.
One minute in and Gerry has called everyone whores and I chose to believe that Ben was referencing ballchinians from MiB
Backstagers assemble! happy Sunday!
27:38 I second that vote @dignity
36:45 a very a-trak-tiv head ornament @avernos
44:35 I’ll let you in on a little secret @brennon but keep this between you and me. It might upset some folk. So Karsten, the lad I’ve been playing Battletech Star Wars: Legion and Frostgrave with for the last years wants to play 40k. So I’m kind of in the opposite position than you with your G’Wullu loving mates. We’re still trying to figure out which edition to play. I have 3rd, 4th and 9th and Karsten has 8th. It’ll be chaos! XD
48:35 Star Wars: X-Wing had an “app”. It was more of a website but it worked on your phone as well as on your PC and you had collection management, list building etc. FFG was way ahead of their time. Sadly they did pursue that further.
50:25 STEPPING! DREADFULL STEPPING!
1:09:00 star schlong?
1:11:00 Watching Hitman movies? If you say so XD
No com spot? Did I miss it.
And what’s with that weasel!?
For starting new with 40K,I’d say 3rd is the most straight forward version imo and 3rd had get you by army lists in the core rulebook, so with the 1 book your friend can try it, buy a few other models and then see if he wants to commit and expand. 8th is also good for being self contained if you had all the at launch codexs.
Thanks for the advice. Just don’t tall youknowhow about it 😉
I love having a guess as to what the future hobby will look like. I’m not sure I agree that the smaller scales will have a big impact. I find them hard to paint and they certainly won’t have a regular place on my desk any time soon.
I think that Warriors of Athena will have a big impact, along the lines of Silver Bayonet which is one of North Star’s biggest sellers. Personally I hope we finally see the reboot of Kislev for The Old World, not because I want to play the game but I’d like to paint an army if the miniatures are any good, and if a winning lottery ticket is in my stocking 😀
Happy Solstice to one and all.
My plan for 2026 is buy no minis apart from some of the Chinese stuff for Team Yankee when it comes out. I have far too much to keep me busy throughout next year that needs building and painting. Most of which is either 10 or 15mm.
I was thinking of going all ‘Flash Gordony’ next year as well, but I really need to paint up my Silver Bayonet stuff first (because I play so much of it), so I hope to start the pulp sci-fi in the 2nd half of the year – if civilization still exists.
And a Merry Xmas and Happy New year to all my brothers and sisters in gaming.
Have a brilliant Christmas everyone!
I’m hoping to get a couple of Epic Warpath armies and finally my Kings of War army done.
@brennon background video for your Hitman game. Watch out for the squinty eyes it’s Brechin https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mMDPgH8ZQGQ&pp=ygURaGl0bWFuIGFuZCBoZXIgaGQ%3D
