Let’s Play: Mythic Battles Pantheon – Flooding The River Styx
May 1, 2017 by dignity
Leonidas of Mythic Games is back with a gruesome scenario as he faces off with Justin over the River Styx. Justin will be pulling out all the stops to avoid becoming like Achilles!
This scenario is just one of many that will be part of campaigns and more in Mythic Battles: Pantheon. How do you think it went?
What would you like to see next in Mythic Battles?

I doubt @dignity will see dice like that in any other game he plays EVER 😀 . I reckon you owe the dice gods a few favours now 😉 .
I wonder what he sacrificed/promised to the dice gods for this.
The way he was rolling, probably his first born, second born AND his beard 😀 .
@kantor72 Great! XD
Buuut, lest thou not overlook the righteous words of revered Klovis, The Redeemer himself:
“IF IT DOESN’T HURT, IT DOESN’T COUNT.”
Thus, the last bit wouldn’t be much of a sacrifice, valued any way the bristle per se might be. Considering how often Justin seems to change his facial attire from full blown to zero and back again this man must be blessed with very healthy beard sprout. That thing would be up again in no time. ^^
Just insane how many 5 Justin rolled in a go and getting to use lighting bolt 3 times.
Cough (loaded dice) cough
An intriguing variation on the ‘usual’ game – I love the dilemmas each payer faces and the hemming in that the swamp tokens cause over time. Fabulous game guys. Leo – the power of the Vertical Hair needs some Omphalos recharging
Thanks for the ongoing let’s plays for Mythic Battles. I’m very glad I managed to get my slacker backer in on the pledge manager. Would love to see Poseidon or some of the Titans in a battle.
I think they did a Sea battle using Poseidon in the last KS Livefeed ?
They did indeed 🙂
Whilst a sea battle was played, it was a scenario and the forces were already specified. Alas, Poseidon or any other god was not involved. It was only heroes and troops on boats vs. aquatic monsters. Still a great battle and preview of the aquatic rules though
Thanks, missed that (as a slacker backer I don’t get the updates automatically.

burn
Between being hit twice by Zeus’ lightning attack and then Justin’s insane dice rolling for those… but I like the scenario nonetheless.
Augh! Should have been vs. @warzan
oh how i wish i could lay this kind of beat down on Warren 😉
This was so much fun to watch. Can hardly wait for my pldge to arrive 🙂
Yeah, a really fun game, even our poor Leo was totally crushed by a All Mighty Justin!
Well done!
Very interesting gaming system for this scenario and the flood. Put more stress on the game ^_^
well that was interesting, I hardly no where to start.
first off, well played Justin mate. from the draft to the killing blow a pretty much flawless display.
yes you had a couple of strong dice rolls that helped compound the problems you were causing poor Leo, but it was more about good play. Leo was so focused on how he was going to take out those tough pieces that he took his eye off the ball and boy did you punish him for it. it rattled Leo and he reacted by retreating and bringing forces on to the board to compensate, at which point you only went and did it again. the flooding made it worse by getting to him naturally bunch his forces.
I guess tough to kill and AOE are king in this scenario.
@dignity:
I’d *really* like to see a bit more screen time of the minis you didn’t use so far (or less prominently) in your battle reports. I reckon you rather primarily feature painted minis and probably ones included in the core game and non-KS-exclusive content though. For me personally it’d be perfectly fine if you used unpainted figures. Also, I quite liked the ones only painted in shades of grey (hur, hur…).
Here’s some ideas popping to my mind right now:
– use only gods you didn’t play so far (and/or troops, heroes, monsters… Apollon, Persephone, Hekate, Artemis I’d love to see in action);
– face off choices that work in a certain similar way (terrain throwers, or ranged attacks, or fast collectors, or multiple activators etc.) or the other way around with directly opposing fields of specializationis;
– scenarios / game mods where you must use a distinct type of unit very prominently
(e.g. lots of troops with very few heroes/monsters and maybe one or two gods who might aid their champions/forces for a limited amount of “time”, say, beam on the field to do one trick and beam off again…);
– pitch themed forces against each other (either pre selected, or each god has a limited pool of choices only partly overlapping with the opponent);
– play intentionally uneven sided scenarios, maybe inspired by mythology (e.g. a hero and gang in one of their classical plights) or based on the new MB:P background (what if people joined forces exactely the other way, or now it’s retribution time for the monsters, or escape from Tartarus etc.);
– very small scale campaigns, like gods on their journey to new power gathering followers and forces to amass omphalos.
That said I very much enjoy your ongoing coverage of the game and appreciate your presenting the vast amount of flexibility and variability, thus re-play value.
Much obliged, guys, to BoW and Mythic/Monolith. Btw, you team up very nicely.
Haha I had this on in the background. Was a quiet, calm, battlereport for the most part.
What really got me watching it was Leos first “NO!!!!” at the first lightning. The emotion and intensity then draw my attention towards watching further.
As the report progressed the ambience changed into a somewhat apologist attitude (very host-like and gentlemanly) from Justin. That was nice to see.
Also last ditch attempts to score that one VP! We´ve all been there and it´s nice to see it done right!! cheers!
