Shopping for your other half’s valentine at charity shops?!?!?! Romance isn’t dead! But is clearly not very well 😉
Great weekender guys. Really enjoyed it after getting in from DJing. By the way, the pizza guy from the Wanderers is the late great Erland Van Lith AKA Dynamo from The Running Man and Grossberger from Stir Crazy. He was also a wrestler and a barratone opera singer! His version of ‘The Birmingham Jail’ in Stir Crazy is just beautiful.
FYI if you plan to get healthy geek wise then why not get all the box game manufacturers to weigh what they think is their heaviest boxed game then see which one is the heaviest, buy it then develop a BOW work out routine using the box! 😉
Losing weight starts with diet guys. No unhealthy cabs, eliminate junk food and cut right down on beer (sorry, didn’t mean to swear at you all). My diet is 100% fruit, veg, chicken and fish AKA protein. I have a cheat day each week but the key is not to overdo it. I do 3 runs or walks of 30 minute plus a week. I also lift weights 2 or 3 times a week, even though I find it dull. Motiviation is the key of course but it all starts with diet so you need to get that right! RE: Godzilla….. you need to read the noise on the movie. Godzilla will be fighting other monsters in the movie. Director Gareth Edwards (who made the excellent MONSTERS) said the movie is a homage to the original TOHO movies. Trust me its in safe hands. Also, the red smoke is a homage to the original Godzilla movie where they use smoke to distract and lure Godzilla out to sea. Y’all need to get your knowledge up! Love the movie content by the way. Movies and movie worlds go hand in hand with gaming
The best and laziest way to get healthy, is change your food diet and sit on an exercise bike infront of the tv for 30 – 40 mins 4-5 times a week at a cardio level. Job done and you don’t lose much time, trust me it works 😉
FIT CLUB Thread can be found here: http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/news-rumors/forum/topic/bow-fit-club/
I made the same noise Lloyd did when I first saw the SM centurions
lol
It was pitch perfect! If I do say so myself 🙂
On the subject of fit club … I look, er, less of a stereotypical gamer than I did 6 months ago.
I started walking to and from work. It won’t work for everyone but I can walk it in 40 minutes vs ~30 minutes on the bus. So on a good day I get 1:40 exercise at the cost of 20 minutes of my day.
I’ve no time to go to a gym (I used to but now I work full time and study for a degree part time) and my legs are too kanckered to play football. Walking to work works for me.
If it’s doable (with distance and not too much rain where you are) it’s the sort of thing that’s easy to keep up.
Been doing the same for years – and it is also a nice way to clear your head before and after work – and the joy of sitting drinking coffee for 8 hours which must be healthy right.
8 hours of coffee is definitely healthy. Science!
Desolation of Smaug was bloody awesome – but, I am biased as hell. Either way I really, really loved the film and I genuinely want to start playing the GW game more now.
BoW Ben
GODZILA ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don’t care what you say !!!!
For those that missed the Godzuki reference:

Sigh. You guys have no clue what Godzilla is do you? You know the character but it’s as if you’ve never seen one of his movies. Okay, here you are:
Godzilla is an amphibious radioactive mutant dinosaur from some unnamed Pacific Island that was subjected to an atomic bomb test in 1953-54. The giant fire-breathing monster is nature’s wrath against humans for messing with nuclear weaponry. He never ate anybody, he’s all about the stomping and collateral damage. He is there to destroy cities and soak up radiation from power plants. Godzilla is a force of nature -a walking disaster that no army or conventional weapon can defeat.
The only time Godzilla is a hero is when some other monster or alien pisses him off enough to start a fight. Generally the fight leaves whatever city they are in wrecked so he’s happy to wade off into the ocean with his task accomplished as a byproduct of an epic monster battle.
How is Hollywood going to take that and reboot it? I have no idea but it has to be better than that failure from 1998.
Oh, also, Godzilla’s roar is a rubber glove stroked across a violin.
Comment of the month!
+50
I would also like to chip in, having been a fan of the Godzilla films, what dais says is correct. Godzilla is natures wrath against humanity for using nuclear weapons.
The Showa series was the only set of films where he was sort of friendly to humanity,
the Heisei series revamped it and brought Godzilla back as a natures wrath and vengenace. It is all explained in the 2 following films, which i would urge you to watch to understand Godzilla, if you can get over the cheesy american voice dubbing they are ok.
Hahah I challenge you to watch them Warzan 😉 😉
1 The Return of Godzilla, is a direct sequel to the original film and explains what he does and why.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_of_Godzilla
2 Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, actually gives his origin story, and he has a bad ass look.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_vs._King_Ghidorah
Now i am hopefull that this reboot film wont be like the 1998 film as its being directed by the guy that did monsters which was a good film and Legendary who to date haven’t made a bad film.
Came here to say this. I see dais beat me to it for the most part. 🙂
Godzilla was never really a “good guy” in any of the movies. He either showed up to beat up some monster who was pissing him off or was lured into the fight by humans. And even when he was fighting on behalf of the humans he was never really viewed as a hero…more like a rabid animal they had managed to trick into fighting the more dangerous rabid animal.
Mothera was the only “good guy” monster in those old films.
Oh man, I could hear the squealing rage in my head as they went on about Godzilla. I grew up with him, every movie, all the cartoons, and absolutely hate that abomination of a movie that came out in the late 90’s. This seems like a true reboot, and dais, thank you soooooo much for letting them know. I stopped the show and went strait to comments looking for some beacon of Gozilla knowledge other than I. Thumbs up from me for sure. The roar was a leather glove, coated in resin across a double bass, only odd fact I know about it.
The Gaffer’s version of a diet plan: eat less, crap more.
I see where I have went wrong…
ate more, crapped more 😉
What Dias said. Also the creature in Rolland Emmerichs’ Godzilla film has been been retconned to be a separate entity known as Zilla. In the last Godzilla movie made, Godzilla Final Wars in 2004 (there were 6 films released by Toho between 1999 and 2004) they finally faced off against each other with Godzilla casually batting Zilla into Sydney Opera House before one shoting it with his atomic breath.

Ahh. THey don’t make ’em like that any more…
( Thank God! )
lol
Really enjoy Gloom. Did anybody else’s cards smell funny when they were new? Sort of flowery/perfumy (have smelt 2 sets).
I think that smell would be the new plastic and ink. I guess you can’t question someones taste in perfume. 😉
And Cthulhu Gloom makes the game even more fun. It’s a separate set, but can be mixed with the original game. More insane events, more ways to get family members back from the dead and Story cards as a secondary goal to claim more points.
Just picked up a pack fo the cthulhu gloom, seemed like the perfect christmas game!
Sam is as wise as fair of and face and hair.
You all would do well to listen to his words !
I totally agree that Gloom is the perfect Christmas game to play with the family, well at least with my family! We have played it many times, yet sadly I have never won. I can never seem to kill off enough of my family or at a high enough score. However, our oldest daughter seems to always win. Not sure if that says something about how she has been raised or not, but it does make me one happy gaming mom!
Today was my little girls Birthday party (turning 3)
I had my proud daddy moment, when she came back from face painting, with all the little friends all painted like princesses… Savanna was sporting the most Amazing Spider Man Face!!!
Proud Daddy lol 😉
Excellent! I find there is no better feeling than knowing you have passed the geek gene on to the next generation!
@lloyd – I heard a great quote on American National Public Radio: Fiction is not about what happened, but about how it felt. Godzilla is about how Japanese citizens felt when two nuclear bombs destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki…it was like a giant radioactive lizard emerging out of the ocean and flattening a city and killing tens of thousands of people, the military is helpless, and all you can do is watch in terror, then pick up and carry on after the monster leaves.
Gloom looks really fun! Thanks for that! I’m really enjoying the game of the week segment!
The 5-2 Diet is great, but it may take a while to drop 3 stone (~19kg). I’ve been on it since July and lost 12kg to date.
Don’t have time for the gym so this has worked great for me.
Pretty much everyone here has said what I was going to say about Godzilla…it may not be your cup of tea but there was far more meaning behind the older films than just “monster destroy city.”
In regards to Pacific Rim…I enjoyed it enough but that is because I went in not caring about plot or art. I went in wanting to see giant robots fighting giant monsters. For the most part it delivered.
A game would be interesting but I would agree it would be very difficult to make it enjoyable. The way I see it you would pretty much have to have two games going at the same time; the battle or battles that take place against the monster and a sort of “big picture” game where you have something like a team of scientists working in the background trying to develop a way of stopping the monsters…sort of like a campaign system.
And the purpose of the battles would not be to destroy the monster, but maybe more of an attempt to slow it down…not only to buy time while you come up with the way to actually defeat it but also other objectives such as evacuating the populace.
Thanks for sharing an early Christmas present Justin.
I’d like to see some Empire of the dead content. It’s one of those games that I wanted to get into but somehow never did. So a bit of inspiration on here would be cool.
The WI App is an exciting development I’m looking forward to exploring that.
Natalie is an unhappy kitty! XD
@dignity: *attacks J with vicious claws* >:D… Soo getting payback for u calling me that.
@huscarle: He told me he was bringing it back for me so I knew :3 Still, his face in this when it was opened was hilarious.
The beauty being you can playback whenever you like. That and he’ll have to get you something else now as well.
I seem to remember some wager with Justin involving food when they were still in Essex…
Anyway, since this health and wellness carry-on seems to have taken hold, maybe the Saturday show will be renamed ‘The Wok-ender’.
And XLBS will be ‘The Second Helping’ 🙂
Are you guys all too young to have played OGRE? The new version only made a million bucks on Kickstarter…
I used to play OGRE on my breaks in high school. I hood to cook up a story sbout practicing chess so I could get a locker to store the game in (I had the deluxe version).
Actually, the new version should be in the mail waiting for me… There was even a miniatures version.
I haven’t played it, but it is the first thing that came to mind for a Giant Monster vs The Army game.
Diet Plan, agree an Army points system for eating well and exercising, this reward system should give you the focus needed to maintain discipline.
It takes 21 days to form a habit so for January be sure to eat breakfast before 8am and eat tea at 5pm, this new habit will help greatly.
A great way to loose weight easy is to eat a small portion of food every 3hrs, add exercise to this too and the weight should just drop off. Also, if you are feeling hungry, try a glass of water as thirst sends the same signal to your brain. For those people with weight issues, try swimming as it removes the impact stresses on the body and allows a large range of movement using all the muscle groups. I would also suggest eating carbs as this will be needed for fuel, protein increase too in order to repair your muscles after exercise and fruit and veg for vitimins and keeps you regular. I was a qualified Army PTI and these are some of the small changes people can make to increase their health. Also cancel your TV licence for greater results, hehe.
Gloom looks a great game and simple enough for non gamers to get into at xmas. Love the transparent cards, they are a great idea.
@warzan
I have the same problem with horror movies. Sometimes have them in my head for a week.
The problem with me is, when There is another one out, I think awesome let’s go see that, when I in the theater, I think maybe this wasn’t a good idea. Then the movie starts and I can’t wait untill it’s over.
Wished I would learn, but I’m pretty sure I’ll watch the next one.
Another great episode guys thanks again, I always enjoy the weekender.
I have some questions tho and I’ll probably get some angry responses but i’m not trying to cause offense i’m just curious.
So how come nothing on the new Warhammer 40k expansions and supplements, I mean there has been some serious discussions in certain circles of the hobby. They are making Super heavys part of the regular game now, baneblades and titans aren’t just for apoc anymore. You can make big defense networks now and add Inquisitors or small forces to armys without using a allies slot, there has been alot going on in the past few months. I’m wondering if you guys are going to do any coverage of all this new stuff. I understand an love your coverage of other games but Warhammer is a huge part of the hobby and as one of the premiere wargaming news sites I’m just surprised at how quiet you have been after the split. I understand the GW is run by a bunch of #$%^!s but the game and the universe is a big part of the hobby. Just hope to hear your opinions and reviews on where the game is heading.
Thanks and hope you have a great holiday.
You are absolutely correct to ask 🙂
I have PM’d you 😉
I wonder if the trick to a Godzilla-like tabletop game is for one player tocontrol both the monster AND the army, with the requirement that the army must always attack the monster, while the other player controls the team of survivors who must collect resources dropped by the monster when it is wounded, from army units when they are destroyed and must combine the resources at certain points on the map to acheive victory. The monster player, however, has to destroy enough of the city in order to win. Thus the monster player must minimise his chances to hit the monster while at the same time boxing iin the survivors with the army to limit their own movement.
Hmmm..
By Jove!
You may be onto something there…
Hmmm…
Another great episode guys.
I’m on your side Sam, Pacific Rim is a great movie!
And then there’s Lloyd’s strange howling…
If you want a game where little guys take on giant robots, try playing Battletroops, its an old FASA / Battletech game,it is a lot of fun.
Aha, 1 stone…
As nobody on the Continent knows that unit, I’ll try to loose 5 kg.
Hi folks.
There are a couple of things no -one has mentioned about loosing weight safely and sensibly.
Primarily and most importantly drink more water!
Drink a pint of water before each meal.It will hydrate your body and let it work at optimum efficiency. It also reduces your appetite slightly by filling your stomach with 1 pint of zero calories, before you eat!
Secondly watch your sugar levels!
if your sugar levels drop too low your body stores fat.
If you sugar levels go too high your body stores fat.
This is why so many people fail to lose weight even if they excercise and reduce their calorific intake.
Be aware some things you think are healthy are high in sugar, like fruit juice, and some granola bars.
best of luck everyone!
I have always enjoyed your reviews, videos, etc. I have some physical ailments and have gained a lot of weight myself. Count me in as a Battle against my bulge partner. I would love to feel better, and I would love to support you and join the club. I gave up soda pop about a year ago and I never thought I could do that. I know we are capable of many amazing things. I would be honored to be counted in the group.
Happy Christmas and Holidays. Looking forward to the new year!
