Horsemen of the Apocalypse Ride on Wild West Exodus
February 27, 2014 by dracs
A bunch of new concept sketches are appearing for the game of Wild West Exodus, concept sketches that might just signal the end for all of us as these show the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
These sinister riders spread the evil of the Dark Council throughout the war torn territories of the western frontier. They definitely look the part, bringing the iconic appearance of these harbingers of doom and giving them the twisted, mechanical style of Wild West Exodus.
Are you playing Wild West Exodus? Can you tell us anything about these horsemen and the mysterious Dark Council?

I really want to like this stuff. My main stumbling block as just been really their pricing levels. I keep watching their range grow and thinking that’s cool! Then I proceed to drop money on other games … maybe someday I’ll take the plunge but I just really don’t like supporting the entire industry raising prices to be in line with GW. That said I know their small, I know it costs alot to get things started, I know that there are many expenses running a business, etc. I just don’t know if I could pull anyone else in my area into the game at their prices. Everyone I know locally just says “cool” and looks at the prices and then asks my why they wouldn’t just stick with Privateer Press which basically scratches the same itch.
Also these guys have cool minis on one hand, but its more of the soul-less 3D CAD shite … their entire line is 3d CAD render sculpts … which for the friggin prices their charging they could have easily hired the best sculptors to hand sculpt all their stuff. Don’t get me wrong I like some of the 3d CAD sculpted stuff, in big loss leader boxed sets its great, I’ll take the soul-less minis to get piles of them for cheap.
I’m a little torn on their aestetic as well. On one hand I totally love it, on the other hand its looking more and more like a rip off of bad (but I love them still) 80s cartoons, it has a strong Thundar the Barbarian/He-Man vibe going. The proportions of the figures are World of Warcraft-esq and very cartoony overall.
Just idle complaints that will likely get flamed to the high havens 🙂
I took the plunge, and I like the minis, but I do see where you are coming from. At first, I didn’t really like the look of the iron horses, but then I saw Sky Spirit and took a serious second look. I like the style for the most part, but I think the story is what intrigues me more. If I lived closer to my dad and didn’t work all the time I think we could really bond over this game.
To call Wild West Exodus miniatures “Soul-les 3D CAD Shite” tells me that you have not seen them in person. I backed the kickstarter and I can tell you that they are far from soul-less. The details are amazing!! The poses are dynamic, and the quality of the plastics and resin is second to none.
These miniatures are some of the best on the market. And if you do a price comparison of Wild West Exodus to other skirmish games you would find that it is not the most expensive to get into or to continue to play. I know someone has done a price comparison already. I’ll find it and try to post it later.
As for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I think they look awesome. The corrupt Union General on the jet bike looks a little off but I think that will get fixed with the sculpting. As for the rest they are sweet. Can’t wait for them to come out.
I found the link I was talking about. Its a Cost Comparison: WWX vs Malifaux vs Warmachine

Going to be trying the game out at my friend’s house this weekend. If I enjoy the gameplay I’ll be taking the plunge. The aesthetic is a little hard to wrap my head around at times but the detail is amazing on these minis. Whether a model is CAD or hand-sculpted means nothing to me….the end result is what matters. I’ve seen both amazing and horrible examples of both.
I’ve been in a bit of a gaming funk recently. With the exception of Bushido I haven’t been able to get really excited about playing any other game. I was loving DZC until it came to painting the minis…found out the hard way I hate painting anything below 28mm scale.
I finally got my Warzone stuff and despite my frustration with the company I actually really like the models I got. Unfortunately the people in my area who got their pledges before have, for the most part, abandoned the game already. Who knows if I will ever get a chance to play it now.
I’m hoping that this game can deliver and give me something else to look forward to. Based on battle reports I’ve read it appears promising. And as far as price goes there are more expensive games to get into out there. If you aren’t committed to too many games like myself it hurts the wallet less as well.
like I said before to you in an earlier post its only $70(£48) for a starter set that’s hardly expensive but best is the 2 team starter kit($130-£89) which also has the rules dice and token set in it. as for the models themselves they are top notch
Have infection will travel.
He’s stalling. He’s spotted us for what we are: a bunch of mean
macho bad ass desperados. We’re going to kick his boney butt clean
across the town. Enjoy the show. Who’s got
the guts to go with me one on one, hand to hand, mano et mano?
If only to keep quoting this is worth it 😀
In my opinion, the all time best episode
I agree the mini’s are in the upper end of the price bracket @lordofexcess but they are very good. Very little clean up work, and some supreme detail, down to the stich line in the pants if you care to paint it….
The poses are great, but they lack the flexibility of other manufacturers, changing positions and weapons of the miniature requires a large degree of cutting, pinning, greenstuff and skill.
You only need a small amount of mini’s for a possie so the pricing is not that bad, but the Microart Scenery is very disappointing. Not even close to the 4ground range for finish or value. They need to fix this, or plead with 4groud to do a 35mm range.
I agree with a lot of what @lordofexcess says, these miniatures don’t do it for. I just don’t like their aesthetic but, that’s should be ok. We don’t all like the same things right? It’s shame that someone decided to give the poor fella the thumbs down just for having an opinion.
Loving the looks of these bosses. The Warrior Nation themed horseman does it most for me as it looks super raw and aggressive. The horseman on the light support vehicle shooting the arrow is also a great concept but for the opposite reasons. I could see a lot of conversion work being possible to the bike, which makes my happy. 😀
