A Adeptus Mechanicus train from a titan forge world would be awesome i think!
Exactly what I was thinking before I read the comments. Some kind of forge transport train moving tanks or armaments from the forge to the big off-planet shipping yards.
Big flatbeds for tanks and an armoured caboose for holding a detachment of skitarii with a tank / anti-aircraft turret on the roof. Armament would be more to keep bandits away than actual armies.
For the dump trucks, there’s no better inspiration than the old Necron Excavation site from White Dwarf 220 (in old, old money).
Sorry, can’t find any better pics at the moment.
I third that opinion. 😀
You could surround part of the track with construction machinery and cranes to create the tunnels Lloyd was talking about.
And because it’s an industrial track I think the limited curvature of the track is also less of a problem. This could just be a short span of track to get very heavy materials transported a fairly short distance.
You might even transport parts of a Titan, to be fully assembled at its destination point.
This ^
With an engineseer driver called Thomassium T’Tankium. 😀
I think you should go for the desert theme for the trains you can carry on your imperial guard colour scheme. The train could be either a supply train with ammo and tanks or a prison train carrying the deadliest criminals from the galaxy. You could have a train robbery game with orks trying to loot tanks and un-hitching the train or trying to free a captured warboss. You could also buy one more set as well as getting more track you then could have a smaller ork looted train that is chasing behind with rockets and big shooters. The spare trucks/carridges could be converted into ork gun platforms that are sitting on the tracks in front and the guard have to blow them up before the train reaches them and crashes. If you set it in a desert you could use it for wwx or mantic or the haqislam in infinity.
Any way that’s enough imagination for today I’m off to Tesco
I like the idea of an imperial armoured train.
removed the drive and made it go limp ?
You gone and neutered that poor train …
//
Orkses is what I was thinking of first.
Konflikt 47 or Dust could be a good match too.
Maybe a Russian/Soviet armoured train ? The ‘standard’ look combined with the sci fi bits would make it relatively simple compared to going full 40k Imperial / Ork.
Armour it up a little and then use it for Wild West Exodus or Wolsung. Or save it for a 3D version of Rail Raider when it comes out.
i like the idea for the orcisch train 🙂
and if you want more trackpieces, you can easy replicate them with a lasercutter.

IF it works at 15mm I think a modern day Ardennes style battle using Team Yankee would be really cool. You get to make your train tunnels, but also get planes and helos flying over. If not Ardennes could go for Munich-ish as there’s hills and mountains in SE Germany. The train becomes a Russian convoy with tanks and troops aboard and air support and the western troops have to get the main forces to back up a smaller border force at a station before the reds can demount the train or get reenforced through hill roads.
I think also like Blaeyn that Wild West Exodus will be the awesome setting for using this trainset
An imperial armoured train sounds good. Then you can attack the train with orks.
Armoured train with turrets!
With that intro, it should have been “For the love of bog!”
Warlord is making armoured trains for Bolt Action, right? So make your own armored train for Bolt Action! Slap some cladding and tank turrets on, and you’ve got a stew going. Since you have two engines, take off the current bodies (but keep the chassis) and make two versions, one for Bolt Action and one for 40K. For the 40K one, start by taking an old tank o two, hollow it out and remove the treads and attach it to the motorized chassis. There is nothing stopping you from having an engine with a turret, either.
http://www.warlordgames.com/new-bolt-action-armoured-trains/
For the 40K-ish engine…

and
So I was thinking that you could use the train as a logging train. There are a number of youtube videos’s of them. You could set it up as a logging camp and loading the logs for the trip to the sawmill (maybe on another board?). You could also get fancy and create a log boom in a “near by” lake (this could be for the fresh water terrain). The main thing you’d have to create for this is a lot of logs.
This wouldn’t be a 40K idea but could be used for a lot of other games like warmahords.
It also allows you to create a tunnel because the logging camp could be in the mountains.
@warzan talk nicely to @tonka73 and he might 3D print you some track! Ben has the same set so we can get dimensions 😉
why you not reverse polarity in second train to make it go backward? 😀
do it Imperial guard!
I once thought about getting an ‘N’ scale train and doing it up like it was in Mad Max. You don’t get post-apoc train sets in your local hobby store, and I think that’s wrong.
@warzan – I see what you did there with the second engine but I didn’t know reversing the polarity also made you lose drive and stiffness….
My vote is for desert Imperial train.
Couldn’t the diggers/ trucks be made into Genestealer Cult vehicles?
Definitely a Genestealer Cult train..style wise it fits perfectly in with the new Goliath vehicles 😉
Train! Terrain! TerTrain!
Make a tunnel in the FOAM hill in your conversion table, Keep the foam in 1 piece that forms the mouth of the tunnel and you can use it as a Plug to make the tunnel disappear!
I vote Konflict ’47 train. Get some blue glowy effects coming from the engines.
Imperial Guard armour train.
OK you need to weird world war 2 the heck out of that train that’s the only way to go.
I’m so mad at you guys for putting this idea in my head! Hahahah
why not use it for the walking dead? Zombie Murder Train scenario!!!
How about instead of a desert themed train, go with a winter themed armored train and board. Switch buildings for either 40k or Bolt Action.
Maybe build a tunnel on one side and hide a small Christmas tree stand inside for the holidays?
@warzan , With 2 engines, imperial train and an orkified engine. The flat beds could have holes cut in them or brackets glued on and make posted interchangable walls. A set of aegis type walls for the imperial, and coriggated glyphed walls for orks. Only the engines would be set in style and the rest could be changed out as needed, possibly do the same for the cabooses.
I like this idea. Do it as an Imperial train and have orky bits and panels that attach via magnet or clip or just slot over the cars. This way you can use it for either or both. You could even set up a table with two smaller trains, one Imperial and one ork, as if they collided and a battle breaks out between the two crashed trains.
full on Ork looted train!!!!!!!!
sounds great go for it guys.
Anyone remember the train from Ghosts of Mars? If you make it Generic scifi you can use it for anything from next week to 40k.
Don’t get by those flying sawblades as you hop on!
This would be my preferred option too
but you could also keep them as Two trains(ork (and post apoc raider) and imperial (rough sci-fi) then you could have them both chasing each other around the track….
No “I like trains t-shirt!?”
I vote for an Imperial cargo train, allows you to use for Mechanicus, a colony or whatever.
Add the proper bits, rivets (lots!) and an Admech cog or two and your good to go!
First off go with the desert terrain with a tunnel.
As to the trains I advise a compromise, my Solomon Act as it were, you have two trains so do one Imperial hauling equipment and the other Ork with them fighting directly from the train.
The Imperial would be a target and objective and then the Ork train would be them rolling up to surprise everyone with guns and infantry.
@warzan, you know when Justin is right, he’s right. He gave the right answer ages ago, only the question was wrong. It should have been: How do I make the second engine go backward? #changethepolarity
I really like the idea of a Adeptus Mechanicus train transporting parts of a giant titan and the GW gothic crates. Would be a nice start for a scenario (don’t let the titan get to X), at the same time, I see your constraints on what you have available, so I would go with the Imperial Guard.
Regarding the length of the track. You can easily double it by using long tunnels. In the tunnels, you can just glue down plasticard or even small wooden rails to make the tracks, as they would not be seen inside the tunnel. This in turn would save you straight original track sections to lenghten the track.
All the above idea`s are great, and i for one am stuck between doing an Imperial Guard Armoured Train and an Ork one.
Now there is a simple solution to this and one i would like to see happen…………………………I have a spare “Tenner” on me, i`m willing to donate to @Warren (through pay-pal) towards them getting two more sets. Anyone else up for this and (but only if @Warren agrees) helping it happen. On the plus side they`ll have lots more track to play around with……..
well I think there is an opportunity to try out some 3d printing here for new track sections meaning you could have all the wibbly bits you want or you could try casting them. Also if you rewire that motor back in and reverse the polarity it would run in reverse pushing the train while the other engine pulls.
tunnels at either end hiding track returns etc with raised platforms over top of each so your trains can turn around at either end in hiding
I do like the idea of a manufactorium floor with tracks all over the floor and walkways, raised platforms etc for your forces to fight over. either adeptus mechanicus or genestealer cult,
The train looks imperial already. A bit of a paint job and some fettling BOOM
ork train for me
Also if you had swapped the polarity on the motor (swap the leads to the other ends of the battery) it would have run in reverse so you could have had a push pull on the two trains, which would do almost as much for its speed as painting it red 😉
Scrap that entirely, get these and glue to the rolling stock and use as a bodykit!

Personally, I would look at doing the train as an Imperial Guard Armoured Train. Make one or two armoured box-car type wagons with a drop-pod style ramp out the side as the armoured personel wagons, repaint the cranes and wagons with the tanks and have the crane “deploy” the tanks on the battle field. Maybe even an armoured wagon with a Leman Russ (or simlar) style turret. Look at the German and Polish Armoured trains from WW1 and WW2 for ideas.
Konflikt 47 all the way, gotta transport that top secret super weapon some how
Looking good guys, I would love to see some MERCs 2.0 BatReps using the train. If the train is armored/teched up the right way it could also be used for Infinity. With that many platforms you wouldn’t even need the train to run you could have a running battle jumping from train car to train car. Either to capture the engine, rob the med supplies (i.e Firefly) or to stop the bomb from reaching it’s destination!
Why can’t you have both Orks and IG?
Fix up the other engine unit – make one Ork and the other IG. The flat trucks won’t need a lot of work and you have two “caboose” things as well.they could both be altered to suit.
Infinity would be a good fit, but I do like the idea of an elevated rail line…
Go desert!
Chaos Train covered in spikes and skulls and bones and eyes and such.
I think it would be cool to have the train carrying prisoners. Like orks in big cages and then they could liberate the units on the train to join the fight. You could go ork train carrying imperial guard too. I’m just thinking that the game needs to incorporate the train as more than just terrain.
Or even orks who have commandeered an IG train and the imperials have to win their tanks back.
Turn it into an Imperial armoured train. Block the track with a rockslide and have it being attacked by an ork horde. Can the rockslide be moved allowing the train to escape or will it be overrun and captured by the orks?
I would say if you were to put some bigger magnets in strategic places and then you would be able to magnetize add on parts to change the train for different games. Then you could choose an appropriate colour scene that with these add on bits would be enable the Train to be used in different games.
In addition you might be able to have two colour schemes for Engines(Silver and red??) and then a neutral colour for the carts (Black, grey, silver?) which would give more versatility with the simple changing of the Engines.
I can easily see a scenario with the train, it runs the entire length of the row of tables and the imperum is controling the train and the orks are trying to board and capture it. They jump across from their trukks and battle with the guard on each car to try and disconect it and slowly piece loot the train.
Are they just ‘toys’ trains or are they to scale?
@warzan @lloyd any chance of getting some “scale” pics of the different parts of the set up?
i think the train would be perfect for 40k, if i had one i would:
1) paint it a dark metallic colour (regardless of where the train is)
2) i would use it as an troop transport/mobile fortification, so each carriage is not only a troop holder, but also a sort mini fort with gun emplacements etc, there would also be some ammo/fuel supply wagons for the army marching alongside it
3) I would also about halfway along the train, make one of the wagons into a railway gun, similar to the German one in WWII, the Schwerer Gustav i think it is
4) On the Engine, i would put a plough/scoop. If you look at the House Robot Shunt from Robot Wars, im thinking the pointed scoop it has would be perfect to put on the front of the train, to push away any snow, debris, enemies that try to block its path.
5) as for the diggers etc, take the cabins of them, put command platforms on them and control panels, and stick some mechanicum tech priests on them, and use them as land clearing and construction vehicles that could be used to make a field base for the imperial army.
Also with regards to making some track, rather than actually making track, you could maybe make something like tram lines?. So just get the base board, cut two grooves in it where the track would be, maybe then line the grooves with plasticard so its more durable with the train running over it, so then you have the track lines set into the board rather than making track that goes on top if it.
On the “Train Table”-topic:
I would defently go the Ork-Way! Let it be set on the ash waste of Armageddon and the train is a supply train that goes from an Ork village (ex-Imperial) to a small harbor section to restock the Red-Orctober!
What if it were a Pirate train? Eeeh?? eeeeeeh??
Like peg-leg bicorn-hat pirates w/ skull and bones moldings on the front and lines of broadside cannons towed along?
Okay, not sure how well this would work; however could you make a magnetized parts that fit perfectly on each car and have multiple themes!
easiest, best, everything’s relative.
@palaeomerus pirate train. you could use it as a ghost train for your Scooby doo game.
and its Halloween theme right now.
I think its great for 40k.
I would go with a Imperial Train and you could have it transporting Military Ordnance. Then you have Kill team battle where a Genestealer Cult Is trying to hijack it to help get weapons for their upcoming rebellion. You could have a Team of Admec Skitarii, Arbites, IG storm Troopers guarding it, or it could be a set up by the Inquisition or the Deathwatch and they have a team waiting. Also you could have Chaos or Ork mercs trying to hit it at the same time and them and the Genestealers have to fight it out along with whoever is guarding. So many cool scenarios. I can’t wait to see what you choose.
Yeah Warren Lloyd’s supposed to be the one excited about trains !!!!!! Stop stealing his thing!!!!! Brothers!!! Sheesh
I’d love to see a vlog converting the train, or any toys, to gaming terrain/pieces. I’ve got a bunch of cars waiting to be painted up for dropzone commander and what Ive tried looks terrible.
As for the train, I’d prefer to see it get a multipurpose paint job. Something that works across multiple systems, ideally modern city for batman/marvel, into future for infinity/40k. If it can also work for ww2/bolt action, all the better.
I think you should do a 40K train, but I don’t much like either of your ideas.
Ork Train: you’ve already got the submarine which okay, isn’t a train, but you’ve already done the big orkified transport thing.
Imperial armoured train: it’s just not interesting enough, or 40K enough. Camoflaged will just make it look like a big and cheesy WWII train. We know the Squats in 40K have land trains which don’t need track. So this will look out of place I think.
Idea: got for an Adeptus Mechanicus transport train. Inspired by the models and by the feel of the new Lord Inquisitor movie. It can look and feel amazingly sci-fi, gothic and ridiculous. It can be red, if you want to paint it red. And it will look like superb setting. Basically, just don’t do it as a military unit.
Now I’ve read the comments I see that several other people have had this same idea!
I say have it for a genestealer cult game … The cult have to steal the equipment off it before it reaches the end on the board
In the land of bad ideas …. imagine that horrible noise and a gamers arguing over a ruleset.
Hello folks – so just scooped up 2 of these beauties myself and serum sky pondering a third! First two are definitely for my Dust Tactics games – from the KS I got 2 of the fantastic printed railway station mats and have just been after some suitable trains and wagons etc to populate my abandoned Soviet Zervograd railway station to fight over. The scale is a little too big but hey – it’s the world of Dust do anything goes! Thinking is spraying the trains wagons etc Russian Green with red stars added here and there – simple not fancy – anyone any ideas how to prep these to spray – does one need to sand them down to put a key for the paint??? Third one gonna be a agenestealer Cult train scenery piece – Gitta just love these!
Glad you got the database collation issue sorted out, it’s pretty simple once you understand the problem.
For Batman and Infinity I suggest going more for something like this Light Rail\Tram I just picked up for infinity. The figure in this pic for scale is one the small side for the current infinity line (same for batman). Once you have a platform that put the base at level with the floor of the tram it’s a pretty good size. Scale is officially 1:48 and it appears to be pretty close to that.
https://1drv.ms/i/s!ArfN0Ru23bGoiLJ4K0WyF3ajmuG5_w
Ad mech would be cool. Armoured guard transport would also look good, but I do fancy attacking an ork train with some balls, maybe the proteus guard have to land on the moving train and reclaim vital material/ fuel/ high ranking officials?!?
Given the noise of the train, I’d put it outside to scare the local fauna away.
I’d love to see you do a desert board. 40k Imperial armoured train for the tank company all the way.
