Happy Sunday everyone!
2 quick apologies
1) Sorry we are a couple of hours late the post was set to private by mistake 🙁
2) I get over excited as usual in this one and (as usual) do a fair bit of waffling! I shall introduce a gag for future episodes lol
we shall allow it, and happy Sunday
This was a test……..
Wanted to see how long we would wait around for the show to be posted.
Well…….we waited! 🙂
I was wondering if it was late; typical that the week I’m up all night with back pain is the one week the vid’s not out on time. ?
You waffling is the highlight of the show sir! Never stop
Really testing us to see if we could survive for a few extra hours, and we did so no worries.
A gag, not a gag……now i have a mask going spare if required, zip across the mouth type. Zip closed no talking, if not required i`ll put it back before the wife misses it.
Top of the morning Sirs!
?
@ Warzan
It seems everyone of the usual suspects has gone back to bed. Well, that’s my moment then…
HAPPY SUNDAY!!!!!
Typical.. someone always types faster ?
Happy Sunday COG/Backstagers!
It’s the Super Stealthy XLBS SHOW!
So good that it had to be hidden from the world.
Early or late, I’m always ready for the XLBS.
Happy Sunday all!
Looking forward to watching, got plenty of Space Marines to work on!
hurrah!
The fact GW says not to dilute the contrast paints with water still makes me think it’s a glaze medium. Glaze medium if mixed with water breaks and separates the paint pigment making it practically useless.
Happy Sunday!
Greenstuff world fluor paints!
Been using them to highlight items on my infinity models. I could imagine a watered down Lime mixed with white for a ghostly wash over a zenith sprayed primer/base (grey to white)
Looking at the GW contrast painted Space Marine example…
I reckon the ‘technical step’ is still requiring the edge highlighting as well as the gold etc. (although the classic model hasn’t got edge highlighting so not a true comparison… Dodgy marketing!) All it’s saved is the shade step.
For more organic skins and scales it looks good.
@avernos. I had forgotten about Scroggy. Is he still about. I played American Football with him for quite a few years
I assume so, I’ve not seen him and his mate Chris in years, shame, both excellent painters
Yeah they were
Great show!
My Anycubic Photon arrived on Friday. Any suggestions on website where I can find files for terrain and miniatures? I’m currently just starting this process.
Y’all have found some amazing towers and items to build. I might have a Qidi Tech 3d on the way soon.
Flowers on. A splash of color here and there makes them look great.
For the GW paint. I would love to see if John can mimic some of the current Armies he has painted recently using the new GW paints. Maybe just mimic one soldier of vehicle.
Thingiverse has probably the largest collection of 3d models. My Mini Factory is a bit more, “premium” but there models usually cost. r/3dprintedtabletop over on Reddit also has people post their free models almost daily and is another great, and unfortunately unknown, resource.
Chernobyl is awesome. Really enjoyed the first two episodes. Much better than Biker Grove with PJ and Duncan!
A point to ponder regarding resources, resources are only as limited and finite as mankind’s ingenuity is limited and finite. Doomsayers keep going back to a Maulthusian view of the world, I am slightly more optimistic.
@warzan your ghost army is how I did my KoW undead. All my skelebobs are just washed and glossed varnished. White undercoat, then washed in green or purple then gloss varnished. For my elites, I did a black undercoat, white dry brush then the wash. I’m happy enough with it but probably would be better with a dry brush at the end. Not done my calvary yet though. Zombies, characters, ghouls and werewolves are painted as normal. My basing is just black, or on some units I used the white jewelry box insert things to stimulate ghostly smoke. It looks more realistic than cotton wool. Two things I am going to experiment with is wadding that crafters use when making patchwork quilts and felt. I reckon pulling them apart will look far better than cotton wool. The big problem photographing my army is the gloss varnish!
Regarding your storage, perhaps make some inserts so you can stack armies on top of each other.
I have the Xcom Boardgame, I don’t like it. Opened it, read the rules and was so confused I didn’t bother with it again.
Happy Sunday guys!!
Still talking about the Pyramids and still no mention of their use as power plants!!
Loving these conversations dudes, brings me back to my youth as a wide eyed psychonaught!!
Keep up the great work guys and promise us you’ll have some video footage or maybe even live updates of the |D-D boot camp, that would be awesome for those of us who couldn’t make it 🙂
There is a thread on the tomahawk forum about sci-fi saga. It is about 6 years old though
I’m sure I’ve seen shallower storage boxes at B&Q
The other alternative is to build some inserts and stack a couple of armies on top of each other.
@warzan if you are thinking of using those Parabellum minis and the GW contrast paints, but perhaps don’t want to lock yourself into being 100% ghostly, might I suggest taking a leaf out of Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere setting, more specifically the Stormlight Archives series? Those books feature “Sharbearers” who wield one of two types of artefact known as Shards – Shardblades (giant swords with no weight that the wielder can summon from the ether and which slice through victims souls) and Shardpalte (armour resistant to Shardblades and most other weapons that enhances the bearers physical abilities) – that are characterized by having ethereal and otherworldly colours (armour especially gets described as “leaking stormlight” after sustained damage)….
(Sorry, I kinda love the Cosmere setting and how Sanderson has given each planetary system it’s unique and consistant systems of magic, but really want a Mistborn game that plays into the super-powered cowboy aesthetic of the Wax & Wayne novels…)
@warzan, couldn’t you just re-skin gates of Antares for 40k?
I have never played it, but i I have played WoE and the weapon choice that people enjoy doing, that family of games gives that in a lighter manner (again based purely on WoE). Just thought it might stop having to reinvent the wheel…
GoA is the edition of 40k
Rick never got to write. It would very easy to bring it into line I think
for a minute there i thought @dignity said Biggins, instead of big’uns. Which would be a VERY different sort of army 😛
Dip,banners and shield decals restore most figures
The World could do with the return of the old Swagger Stick. You look very proper, you won’t stand around with your hands in your pocket and you can swat the local youths when they knock your top hat off.
We should absolutely reveal the existence of Aliens. If Aliens come for us we’re either going to be their slaves, wiped out or traded with and we need to find out which. If tabletop gaming has taught us anything it’s that Humanity owns the stars and must “Purge the Alien, the Mutant the Heretic” in the Emperor’s name.
@warzan you’re right about what’s the point. Pyramids were not built by slaves but by skilled and paid tradesmen who were very well looked after at great expense. Why waste so much time and money not to mention draining time and money from other areas of your society to make a fancy space clock that would basically mean nothing?
The Ancient people’s did have some amazing tech. The Greeks had a Steam Engine and could have started an Industrial Revolution but it didn’t get far because slavery was so much cheaper and more efficient in those days.
I wouldn’t use the GW Oxide myself (It’s brilliant for rusty Bronze) it leaves a sort of powdery rust film on the minis.
How do you get the minis off the bases without damaging the minis?
If you’d like some wood plank bases I could take the Coin bases and put some wood grain on them to save you some time.
@dignity and @lloyd I have some half finished Historical Siege Towers I’ll upload to thingyverse during the week
Happy Sunday folks
Flowers on the lizardfolk army. The colour just adds something. As my late father used to say when I asked him about paint schemes, “there are no clashes in nature, son”, then proceeded to show me the flowers beds in the garden and usually made me weed them when i was out there, but oh well!
Brother @averos your Crusades army looks great, very, very effective. I’d agree with Lloyd, and not bother with the black rims. How many 10mm figures do you reckon you could get on a 25mm round? How small a sized figure do you think you could go for Saga and it still look good?
cheers, I wouldn’t drop below 10mm to be fair, and stick with 4 infantry and probably 3 cav on a 40mm base. @torros has based some 10mm greeks on 25 rounds on his project
@robert. On a 2p you can get 3 10mm figures across with upright spears. or 4 if you put them in 2 rows of 2
Cheers, instead of going and painting all the tiny fighting men I have unpainted, I’ve been looking on the Pendraken website looking at even more tiny fighting men to buy.
As we all do. Just waiting for the rest of the TB line to be released
Ordered a few Copplestone 10mm fantasy figures as an experiment, so will see how they look and whether I have the patience to paint them.
There easy enough. Not sure if you’ve painted 10mm before but if you need any help give us shout
Happy Sunday COG’s one and all
Happy Weekend!
on the subject of Alien Life elsewhere in the universe and revealing this to the wider population, two quotes come to mind.
“Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.” ― Arthur C. Clarke
“A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.” Agent K, Men In Black.
AS for the Lizardmen of Warhammer, in the World That Was there were no females or males for that matter they emerged spontaneously from the Spawning Polls in and around their Temple Cities in accordance with the alinement of the stars. Whilst now, in the Age Of Sigmar, they have become the Seraphon, who are Daemons of Order formed from pure celestial magic, and so could be said to be beyond mortal concerns.
HA… until he provided clarification I thought @warzan s all Ghost army led by one non-evil Necromancer sounded like the finale of Bedknobs And Broomsticks.
Great Show Guys ??
I realise there are legal concerns, and that now you are in businees with GW you need to keep them happy, but might it be possible for you to lead a community built alternate rules set for 40k? I’ve thought before that 40K could use the kind of rules changes GW cannot impliment because they have to honour 8 editions worth of iterations to keep their audience happy and for it to still be the “same game”. The IP has a lot of potential but the game could benefit from starting again from first principles. Ditch the large volumes of dice. Ditch the phases. Ditch the turn based system. Ditch everything except the IP and the desire to have a large fun battle played out in under 2 hours. Poll the community (who would be interested in such a thing, not those too precious about their game and would work against this even though they could just ignore it) to see what they would prefer to lose, prefer to save, and would like to see, and then build up from there. Maybe try to maintai (but perhaps redefine the use/meaning of) existing stat profiles so any new releases can be played as soon as they come out. Get it functional and then have the community play with it in open beta and constantly tweaking it between us?
I would go to squad fire points to speed the game up and bit. If you account for an opponent’s armour etc in the hit roll then the whole hit/wound/save can be got rid of
Something definitely needs simplifying there. Theres definitely too many steps to damage someone.
I’d like to see some more granualarity in being engaged in melee. A whole unit should not be engaged if just one of its members is, especailly if the unit is large enough to spread out over the whole table. This makes no sense. I’d also like to see models being able to retreat from melee and still take shot, even if they take free strikes. Its too easy to negate a tank with one measly farmer with a pitchfork type grunt.
Agreed I had my first real game of 8th Today and wow a lot of rolling.
I roll to hit, then to wound, then he rolls an armour save, then a Feel No Pain then a Special 6+ Last Chance Save.
There has to be some way to get that down.
Maybe if they used D10’s they could get more modifiers on the dice? +1 or -1 on a D6 is pretty big.
I agree that increasing the size of the dice opens up more granularity and would be good to see. Even if they moved to a 2d6 system like with Warmachine that opens up more possibilites for dice results.
Another thing that bugs me is the terminology aroung hurting someone. The terms Wound and Damage are so easy to muddle it makes it extra confusing when learning the game. It’s easy not to notice they refer to different things. Another good reason to reduce the number of steps there.
Ever since 3rd edition people have been talking about a D10 system. Many years ago we played 40k using Stargrunt but they were very small scale games. A friend says Squad hammer by Nordic Weasel games us very good
Yes please for the 40K SAGA, ton of work though to design a battle board. And See Gerry has a painted army now for Joan or Arc 🙂
350 years too early ish
Happy sunday all!
Gerry, I laughed with you at your medium joke even if the boys did not. 🙂 (46:13)
mostly I do then for myself if anyone else gets them that’s a bonus
“No Spoilers” – no one tell Justin how D-Day went either; don’t want to spoil the boot camp for him. ?
I think you’ll find Warren Necromancer are evil, it’s the Department of Post-Mortem Communication at the Unseen University that’s not evil.
?
Happy Sunday! All those projects look great. I am really motivated to get back to the hobby, which is currently interrupted due to a move and construction at the new house. As such, you all are my hobby and doing a great job. The plus side is I will have the whole finished attic for my new hobby room.
I also still want to come across and see how the Campbelltown/ St. Nazarene project is coming along.
Regarding painting restoration and dirty paintings – there’s a we’ll known painting called ‘the Night Watch’ which was called that because of how dark and gloomy it was, then a few years ago the restorers went in and cleaned it up and discovered it should have been called ‘the Day Watch’ because the dark dinginess was actually just dirt that had accumulated and the original was actually quite bright.
Completely disagree with you guys over 15mm Saga Fantasy; I think you’ll still see the ‘wierdness’ as that sort of thing will mostly be on the monsters and characters and whatnot. I think if anything Fantasy would benefit from going 15mm over 28/32mm as it’s always seemed odd in WH for example that you’ve got this fairly small force being lead by a top general with monsters and specialised/rare war machines in tow. Dropping to 15mm and multibasing would allow you to have a larger, more epic army without actually having to deal with more/larger units and either cramming them into a regular table or having to have a large table. It’s something I’ve considered in the past, using Warmaster minis to play regular Warhammer or KoW. Dropping the mini size while keeping bases and measurements the same also has the benefit of ranged weapons not being so reduculoudly short ranged.
On GW Ogres – aren’t they Mongolian themed not Arabic themed? ?
Wiki says the ‘dark varnish’ was removed in the ’40s (probably post WW2 as it was in storage during WW2) … so that’s not “a few years ago” 😉
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Night_Watch
In my defence I was trying to remember what was said about it on an episode of QI a few years ago and my memory’s shoddy at the best of times. ?
Uuuuuu Gerry, the crusaders look astonishing!
Warren, good looking bases.
The metre was originally meant to be 1/10000000th of the distance between the North Pole and the Equator, so it is something that could have been calculated at any time once someone has the idea that the Earth is a globe.
Another great show! Epic work on the bases @warzan and damn, that tower is pretty awesome! And holly hell, @avernos … I love those Crusaders. You’ll always have me with historical. 😀
cheers matey, that’s one fifth of what I have completed, just need to get a push on for the rest now, which is why I have a pile of 80 horses in front of me that I’m cleaning 🙂
Great show and perfectly timed – literally to within 10 seconds – of my drive home from Stonehenge this afternoon! It’s like Warren said “right, Dan’s home, let’s end the show! ?
Good afternoon, everyone!

We hope to see some of you there!

Do board games based off video games work… of course yes and no but Dark Souls the board game is an excellent game.
Every hobbyist is different, but if they really have removed a step, it’s the easiest and most satisying step. Good to see them innovating but it’s not for me.
? if Justin has a uncontrolled mind melt will that be as bad as Chernobyl.?
I was thinking was the rainbow marines one of the two original missing chapters ?
the new paints look great but I think they will work best for things like the LotR ghost army.
do any of you guys see the story of the vandal’s destroying a railway display?

Nearly £50,000 given on the Just Giving now!
That great its at nearly 52k now.
love the tower by the way @warzan
Ooh man down almost.
When is @dignity going to be making a start on his dwarves
Nice going @warzan, there
s hope for me yet. I like what youve done with your chaos army, such simple steps taken and look what you achieved. Think you should get a gold star for them, now you lizard army had my 2 1/2 year old grandson trying to climb into the screen to get at it. He just saw dinosaurs big and small, so if i start collecting army for him now. So by the time hes 5 i can have him playing saga, and take it from there.I missed joining the spring clean challenge this time, but i`ll differently be taking part next year.
Thanks guys enjoyed this immensely.
Spent the weekend “borrowing” the magnetised box idea as I was so impressed with the idea last week. Kids 2p collection was raided….don’t worry I’ve paid em back with some 10p pieces instead.
@warzan the bases rock! Good to see you enthused. Can’t believe the difference the dry brushing made to the tower, Really cool.
Jerry’s crusade saga is looking truly awesome. Can feel me slowly getting sucked into mini SAGA at this rate.
It’s still showing as private for me.
what are you watching it on?
Chrome, seems fine in another browser so I dunno.
running fine on mine with Chrome, if it’s still throwing up as private can you log it in the technical forum in case it’s an ongoing issue
I have been thinking about Saga 40k and building from the ground up would because perfect chance to go back to the beginning and Rogue Trader and have Marines as fire brigade teams within imperial guard armies so in effect would be the hearth guard.Crew weapons could work the same as the magic system in Age of Magic
@avernos Your side commentary is proof that you are a man of tastes beyond vanilla
I don’t know what you mean 🙂
@avernos. I forgot to say how good your crusaders look. I’m tempted to rebase all my 10/12mm Orcs on to round bases
What manufacturer are the figures @warzan bought?
cheers,
we’re not sure, the seller didn’t know and he had taken a picture from space so couldn’t see any details. I’ll know better when I get them in my hands
so i had to wait until i got to work to watch this episode and i have had several work colleagues come in to my office making sure im ok, because i’m laughing that hard i couldn’t breath due to the actions of sexing a crocodile!!
love the just pure randomness
I did my army of the dead with a black primer a white zenif and a spray of green plasma fluid
Warren and Jerry. Amazing work boys!!!! The bases and the “mini saga” have totally inspired me. I love the smaller scales now. We played some 10mm Snappy Nappy yesterday. The smaller scale really helps to create the large/epic scale of Napoleonic battles. Cant wait to try Saga. Picked up the Vikikng and Magic battle boards. Looking forward to getting in a game. Oh yeah. DONT SKIP MY WEEKENDER DAMMIT!!!!!!!!! lol. Happy Monday(a day late)
What is Snappy Nappy like. I’ve heard good thing. What does each stand represent?
So sounds like a Crusader era Saga bootcamp may be needed! I would be really interested in that!
@warzan here’s a Runewars Test mini I did using Army Painter Necrotic Flesh and Green Shade. Made for a simple ghost army.
