It’s the XLBS Show! Happy Sunday CoGs…..
Congrats to @capta1n5kyhawk I’m glad that I’m not the only person that looks closely at packaging material before tossing it out. I’ve been scratch building for decades and learned a long time ago not to toss without a ponder or two. WELL DONE!
@curis love the old Space Marines.
@dane001 I’ve always wanted one of those dragons! Really nice paint job on that mini (is it still a mini?) Very nice.
This weekend I’ve been working on my American War of Independence miniatures. Boy did I find a great resource book for painting uniforms. I found it on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-History-Uniforms-1775-1783-Revolutionary/dp/075481761X normally I always buy Osprey books but this time I stumbled on this one while searching. Took a chance on it and man did it pay off big time. I never realized that there were so many varying Uniforms for the Americans.
I did receive my new 2nd Edition ‘Muskets and Tomahawks’ core book and ‘Redcoats and Tomahawks’ supplement book. They stepped up the contents in this one. Lots of pictures of miniatures and play tables. Great stuff.
I’ll be trying to get enough minis assembled and painted for the big Fourth of July Celebration so I can challenge my Son-in-law to a game. (If we have a party that is, things are spiking again around here with more cases of that plague thing)
I forgot to ask my fellow CoGs………where can I get houses and buildings for my American War of Independence tables? I’m even open to paper models just to get started, but really want some nice long lasting models that can take paint and some weathering.
Thanks for any info CoGs! ??
Haha, thanks. I suppose she’s not so much a mini, even at 15mm lol
Happy Sunday!
You do realise that glossy American wrestling WWX s#!t was and still is all a sham, unlike the real TV wrestling of my era with Big Daddy (Blond Adonis Shirley Crabtree), Giant Haystacks, masked villain Kendo Nagasaki (in no way a 70s racist stereotype) and Mighty John Quinn. For a start their names were so much better!*
You just wait until that pile of recyclable bits I’ve put aside over a number of years is actually turned into something other than a pile of rubbish…
* Don’t worry, I didn’t watch that s#!t either, that was ITV rubbish for your Nan on a Saturday afternoon.
I remember my Grandmother who was tiny and also being Edwardian the most ladylike person I have ever met, on a Saturday afternoon watching the wrestling and advising the combatants in ways that would shame a Liverpool docker. That was in the era of Jackie Pallo.
That’s proper wrestling… Mick McManus, Dynamite Kid all legends World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon ?
If GW/Citadel paints were really as innovative as they claim, they’d have sorted out a tartan paint by now…
Happy Sunday!!!!
It’s 1:30 AM right now, am I going to stay up and watch this or just say ‘hi’ and go to bed like I know I should?
It was a damn rough week, I’m stealing this time for myself and watching while I work on more gnolls.
I’ll go to bed at 3 AM and then sleep until I feel like waking up. 🙂 It is Sunday after all…. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I just copied the Binary into a translator and sifted through languages until I got it.
I loved Rome until I learned the real history now I just look at it and see massive lost opportunities. They have Caesar and Pompey both as Consul at the same time at the start of the Civil War. The whole f*cking point of the Civil War was Caesar was trying to run for Consul so if he was the Consul the whole thing is useless. Basically Caesar did some questionable stuff while Consul about 10 years earlier but he couldn’t be charged since a Consul was immune, then he left on a 5 year Governorship and again he was immune, he managed to get it extended and a whole bunch of other stuff but long story short in order to run for Consul again and therefore keep his immunity Caesar would have to cross the Pomerium and give up his Legions, his Office and his immunity to run for Consul and would have been arrested long before the elections.
Historia Civilis on YoTube has fantastic videos on the Caesarian era and the decades of History that lead up to it.
Don’t need to go via Hex if you just consider 2 sets of 4 as a Byte… for speed simply used an Excel equation:
=CHAR( BIN2DEC( ## )) …Where ## is the cell reference to the cell with the 8 bit binary value.
So is there still xp for golden buttons?
Asking for a friend…..?
I was never into WWE/WWF wrestling always thought it was codswallop. I grew up watching boxing though my brother was a massive wrestling fan. I much preffered to watch Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, John Conteth, Barry Mcguigan and Lloyd Honeyghan.
Happy Sunday All ?
So Warren wants to start a cultist group focused on colour called the CCC? They sound like dislexic white supremacists.
Happy Sunday folks
Not even indulging Lloyd with his “hobby” time? Rome is a great TV show, they make the city feel truly lived in, it was just a shame that it was cut after two seasons, it meant a lot of history needed to be packed into that last season.
lol 🙂 – I didn’t have stuff ready to show.
But Lloyd your sunlight bleaching of your cart has become a staple of the show, just feels wrong to skip everyone trying to judge weather it’s got lighter . . .
lol NICE!
Happy Sunday !!!!
Thanks for putting my XP on the chopping block this week @lloyd. If I lose it all me and you are going to be re-enacting your sister’s People’s Elbow moment and Warren can be the ref 😉 I imagine I weigh a lot more than your sister did too hehe.
I love the Songs of Ice and Fire minis, such a nice looking range.
Your welcome.
@warzan
Re your trees, why don’t you print off some scary tree faces and simply stick them to the trees you 3D print as I’m sure that’s going to be cheaper than the GW route with dryads
@warzan Warren, have you looked at Caliver’s Minifigs range? They do old school metal Tree Men in their Aureolo Rococo range
Lol great intro XLBS.
Is the link to submit the codebuster answer always the same? Didn’t get an email this time….
Not always but yes this time its https://www.beastsofwar.com/redemption/
Big Daddy an Giant haystack would kick all their asses?!? Lol
On the subject of soft drinks cans as terrain, Warbases sells a few mdf conversion kits to turn them into sci-fi industrial terrain.
Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior was Wrestlemania VI. 🙂
I’m hopeless at the code bustering like algebra I see it an my brain go’s NFW and turns off.
Anybody point me to a youtube link for the covid 19 video… really funny… i need to spread the love
BIG DADDY……
Safety warning – playing wrasslin’ is well dangerous. My fake elbow drop properly connected once, cue one lad being driven to A&E with concussion. I was old enough to know better but drink had been taken. That was quite a party!
Anyway the Undertaker was the best and everyone else was/is rubbish.
An the show his triple X.
With regards the dampening down off the contrast paints (which I haven’t used) don’t you just need to resort to old trusty and agrax earthshade the hell out off the paint job? Problem solved.
happy Sunday folks!
What a great start to the show, brings me back to all that time spent watching the WWF and lets not forget Sting and the WCW back then! I remember attending a WCW show at the Kings Hall in Belfast when I was small, Sting, Big Van Vader, Steve Austen, Dustin Rhodes, Heavymetal Van Hammer!
I was never a Hogan fan I must confess!
Enjoy your day all!
A fab show guy’s an congratulations to the gold button winner’s.
Painting US army with contrast – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eai34eU6nA
Painting German Grenadier with contrast – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMvyM52DChw
Andre the Giant? King Kong Bundy? George The Animal Steel? Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat? The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff? All you youngsters there… Happy Sunday!
Gerry, it is a saffron coloured cloak, not yellow, and it doesn’t need tartan… so go ride yourself 🙂
didn’t look saffron to me 😉
But I shall look into taking your advice
I’m so with your @brennon … I think XBLS is lifting the shtick from the Drew Carey version of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
ie “where the games are made up and the points don’t matter”
Happy Sunday.
Contrast paints allowed me to finally complete my Imperial Assault, Core Space, and work on Zombicide collections quickly.
My fix to identifying colors was to prime old unused Space Marines and just do one color per marine with a label.
That way I can see how the colors go down on various surfaces.
Bonus, I have a Space Marine Skittles army.
I went all in on Instant Colors. Like Gerry I wanted to expand my range of paint by number paints.
Happy Sunday everyone.
Congrats to the Golden Button Winners – both past and present. Maybe one day I will actually put a project together to see if I can join the hallowed halls!
Loving the 15mm stuff – it seems to be making something of a comeback at my local club, so I’m considering my options on that one.
Every show makes me want to paint more. Every glance at my unpainted miniatures makes me want to take up another hobby……
Happy Sunday, fellow CoGs! Thanks for another entertaining Sunday morning. I will be working on that Codebreakers for a while, I’m sure.
@warzan I, too, have had a crush on Prof Hughes for decades. Time Team is so much better when she or Suzannah Lipscomb do guest spots. Almost balances out Phil wearing shorts… almost. I have discovered that Hannah Fry makes theoretical math so much more interesting as well. My ex used to call it a “Brainy Babe” obsession. I’m really impressed with your resolve to find ways of adapting your hobby, rather than giving up. I’m right there with you, shields locked, grappling against the perils of aging.
@brennon love the big dry brush, great use for old brushes flat or round. I would recommend trimming those hairs curling out and back as they waste paint, create extra mess, and reduce control of color placement.
To solve Roman history you need to REMEMBER THREE WORDS. Kingdom, Republic, Empire. Three words.
“D-VON! GET THE TABLES!!!”
Loved the intro. Loved the stuff on Sparta. Loved the dragon and who doesn’t love recycling and scratch building. Can you tell I loved the show? Keep inspiring because I’m off to start another project now…
Cheers lads, catch you on the radio show!
What’s up COGS!!! Happy Sunday! Ok. That last Golden Button was off the mofo’n hook!!! Very near and dear to this old grognards heart. I love scrap scenery. My buddy’s used to ave me stuff from the job sites we were on because they knew I would make a piece of terrain out of it. Ahhhhh the glory day. Nowadays I’ve grown all soft with this damn beautiful terrain we have so readily available to us. lol… I think I will start a project where I will make a complete tables worth of terrain from all scrap/recyclable material. What say you COGS? Great show boys. As always. Much love from The Bay Area! ???
Perhaps now the Spring Clean Challenge is over, BOW @warzan could set up a Summer Scrapheap Scratch-built Scenery Challenge for the COGs? You know you want to…
@brennon Interesting point on licenced games. Do you think GWs plans for “TV” are going to be an example of flipping this concept on its head?
Really nice piece of terrain from @capta1n5kyhawk. Love the weathing techniques used. Well deserved Golden Button!
Excellent fun to just see you all having a tine together
1998 Hell in Cell Undertaker vs Mankind. Watch it.
great show as always.
@warzan, even though these are scaled at 28mm, here’s some stuff from reaper minis that I thought may be useful for your many projects….

https://www.reapermini.com/miniatures/figurefinder+plastic/latest/44056
https://www.reapermini.com/miniatures/figurefinder+plastic/latest/44045
I think the following may be the trees you want

https://www.reapermini.com/search/tree/latest/14504
https://www.reapermini.com/miniatures/figurefinder+plastic/latest/77495
are we talking about Centaurs or Gorgons for Code Breakers
Take you mythical pick, it’s all Greek to me.
@warzan Let that hair go! Then you too can become a SilverFox!
With the contrast paints have you tried different base colours? I’ve had some quite good effects when I put them over metallics, I havent really tried any normal colours.
The “A song of ice and fire” miniatures are really good.
The game is fun as well. I have the Night’s watch myself. The are great.
Ben should definitely get into this.
Why don’t you sell these miniatures in the OnTableTop store?
@warzan The Lord of Print Treant pack might interest you. You can also get them separately.
https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-treant-pack-123890
The Forest Giant/Ent from Mini Monster Mayhem might also be of interest.
https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-forest-giant-ent-123652
Or maybe the Twig Blights from Gloomy Kid. These are free as well.
https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-twig-blight-113296
All of these are 3D printer files and you can scale them as you please.
