I’m looking for 1/56 metal , brass or resin spare track lengths for the Panzer 3+4 as well as T-34 . I’m wanting to replicate a couple of Eastern Front tanks and the stowage sets from Warlord and Rubicon are lacking in numbers . Any ideas ?

I’ve never seen any in that scale; only for 1:35. It’s literally like building a real track only less smashy. I’ve done it in 1:35, I would find it even more frustrating in 1:56…

Edit: realized your looking for stowage, not more realistic track for the model

Doesn’t Rubicon make spare track lengths in their stowage kits?

Maybe 3D prints are your best bet.

Have you tried summoning @johnlyons for this topic?

The Rubicon German stowage set ( of which I’ve had 3 ) gives you 2 x  40mm , 30mm & 20mm pieces of Panzer 3-4 track , and the Russian stowage has 2 x 40mm length and a couple of single links .  I’m  going to need a lot more than that . Might take a chance on 1/48 scale resin track , while it gives you 180 odd links , but its almost the same price as the tank kit .   Gasoline out France makes some nice resin 1/48 Churchill track that might look good on the sides of my Canadian Sherman hulls , but that’s a future project

1:48 probably won’t look too bad on a 1:56 scale kit. Especially considering that wargaming minis aren’t exact true to scale either. It may look a bit odd next to the actual tracks if they’re visible enough.

You’re right limburger . I tend to use ,for example , spare Churchill track as extra armor on a Sherman . As the tracks look different the size 1/48 vs 1/56 isn’t noticeable  . I think 1/48 Panzer III-IV track might work if the tank has full side skirts and only the vertical runs front and rear  are visible . You could then lay lengths of track horizontally , your eye  wouldn’t notice the substitution ( I’ve done that years ago with 1/35 scale track on 1/32 Airfix tanks ) Might just have to bite the bullet and order some 1/48 track packs .

I have to disagree on wargaming minis not being true to scale though , the Rubicon line of kits is fantastic . Of course with parts count creeping over 100 pieces in some kits , maybe they don’t qualify as wargaming minis . But the detail is awesome and the ability to kit bash them is one of the main reasons I buy them .

Rubicon are indeed very scaled “right”; many other kits – kind of hit and miss.

My favourite kits for WW2 are actually the Perry/Blitzkrieg ones, and they are actually a bit smallish, but if I was doing WW2 again, I would go with them.

Rubicon always feel like they are scale models adapted to wargaming.
    As are the Warlord/Italeri kits.

I’d still expect less detail and accuracy at this scale/price level though.

(I really hate how wargames rarely will use an actual scale … although both Warlord and Rubicon tend to be the exceptions as they do state 1:56 instead of 28mm as if it is an accurate indicator of scale /rant )

All the28mm / 1/56 vehicle kits I’ve bought have been pretty much right on scale , it’s the figures that are, shall we say, flexible in size. Even the same company can have different sizes in the same range. I assume it has to do with who sculpted the masters.    But as long as the personal gear and weapons are of similar size , they work well together .

Warlord is one of the worst offenders for scale. Massive heads, huge hands! And weapons that are made for much smaller folk. Can’t stand their infantry.

Perry on the other hand are wonderful and perfect in scale.

I really like the newer plastic Warlord figures . The new British box , the winter FJ , the seated British with the Bedford truck . Fantastic IMO . We might disagree because of where we started in building / painting figures . If you are  pure gamer then I can see the size differences would be a problem . Coming at it from a model builders pov , and having built Airfix , Heller , Tamiya & Italeri in the 70s, the Warlord stuff are awesome . Personally I find most Rubicon too small with soft detail , although some  plastic blister packs are really good . I tend to give the Rubicon gun crews away and replace them with kit bashed plastics and resin / metal figures from various companies . Mind you most of the Italeri/Warlord plastic tank commanders aren’t much better . I swear the TCs for the Pzr III , IV , V & VI are all different scales .  But to each their own , that’s what makes the hobby so much fun .

Now if only the aftermarket companies would show us some love like Value Gear do with their 1/56 scale resin stowage .

Daft thing is Rubicon DO have you covered for almost everything PZ IV and a few T-34 track pieces (they are actually 3D printed) in 1/56th scale, BUT they are only available from the Rubicon Asia store. It gets a bit annoying with them have three different webstores all with different availability of models, but there you go.

3D Printed Products – Rubicon Models Asia Pacific

Perhaps there’s a BoW member who lives out that way who might be able to order them on your behalf and then ship to you in the UK?

Yes I’ve seen those  in both the US & UK store web sites .  Not what I’m looking for I’m afraid . I want pieces of track to add as additional protection like on this Panzer IV JPzr IV J

If I where looking for 1/56 tracks I would start with 3D printing or looking at the leftover tank part lots on ebay, particularly the Warlord kit ones (they have more parts than Rubicon). For 1/48 tread bits for that project I would look at Hobby Boss and Dragon first, they should sell treads that are “one tread bit to glue at a time”.
