@oriskany be careful not to mention another word war 2 rule set around Alessio… I am sure he has not forgiven my comment about chain of command at the last BA bootcamp… I was young and naive how was I to know he wrote the Bolt Action rules…???
August 17, 2018 at 4:14 am #1253633@brucelea – Sure enough, there they are. 3rd and 4th County of London Yeomanry, part of 22nd Brigade / 10th Armoured Division. Apparently this brigade would be traded between 10th and 7th Armoured, they seem to be attached to 7th Armoured for Operation Battleaxe, and then to 10th Armoured for Gazala (as seen here) and then back to 7th for the three battles around El Alamein.

So I got a single British figure off eBay to do a colour scheme test. I think it is a Perry miniature and as it is clearly an officer he’s now been named Rupert (because all the best ones are!) and he will be a two pipped wonder. I like to either do notes or, as I have here, get a bit of plastic card and make a reference card. I’ve had a look at loads of reference photos and then I have written down the colour that closest matches the bit I want to paint. There are a couple of other patches where I have mixed a couple of colours to get a closer match, Rupert is wearing a jumper so I wanted a greyish green. I also annotate the prime colours so I know which I used to mix the secondary one. I’ll block in the base colours and then post another picky!
Please ignore all the banshees in the background, another project, I mean how can you resist them. not me, I got eight! Bit of a glass hammer though but they’ll look great……………eventually!

First coats done, happy with the skin and most of the others but I’m going to add more grey to the jumper as it’s too similar to the adjoining colours to stand out.
August 18, 2018 at 4:40 pm #1254265@brucelea, haha I have picked up a German for the same purpose. Nice job buddy I especially like the pose where he checks with the SNCO he is heading in the right direction.
August 18, 2018 at 5:27 pm #1254266Cheers @noyjatat I can just hear it:
This way sergeant!
No sir, not that way.
this way sergeant?
NO SIR! (Mumbles, oh for f#@ks sake, why did I get lumped with that chinless wonder)
Ah! Then it’s definately this way!
(halle…..f’ing….lujah!) that’s it Sir, we’re right behind you (as far as chuffing possible!)

Right, I’ve been and done my chores whilst the first coat dried, second down and I upped the amount of grey on the jumper. Now to let it dry again and then a wash of strong tone me thinks!
Right, I’m off for some fish ‘n’ chips, with curry sauce. Can’t live in North Yorkshire and not ‘ave summat moist on tha chips! See thee later.
August 18, 2018 at 9:52 pm #1254321Anyone know good music for the Desert War ?
The stuff that was playing during the FoW Desert bootcamp was *eh* hypnotic and not exactly entertaining … 😉
I’d be suggesting this one at least :
And the English translations for our friends across the pond :

August 18, 2018 at 10:48 pm #1254334Although not desert related, do I get away with Mediterranean?
the Greek folk song Yalo, Yalo
August 18, 2018 at 11:00 pm #1254336And finally and also because he was a Royal Engineer I give you something very Arabic-esc.
August 18, 2018 at 11:15 pm #1254345@brucelea : nah, I don’t like the screechy classic track types. Needs more singing and a bit less of that “Katzenjammer”
@maxkee : now that’s more like it 🙂
This one kind of seems appropiate too :
A quick Google for British WW2 songs does help too.
This sounds kind of familliar :
Is this used in Dad’s Army ?
August 19, 2018 at 7:25 am #1254445Sounds like your after a bit more Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman then. Jazz/swing.
Not sure about the Adolf song, I think the dads army theme was specifically written for the program but it certainly sounds similar, so could well be the inspiration for it.
For modern age music, this is what I was listening to during the first gulf war. It’s a bit fatalistic but I love new order. The lyrics are spot on for me. It is desert related too (in my memory anyway)
